Story
Levi came to HBHR along with several beagles rescued from a hoarding situation over 2 years ago. Levi was aged at 7 when rescued but all the dogs were in sad physical shape. I doubt if Levi is 9 years old. His coat has no grey and is his are bright! He has gained more pounds than he needed to but looks healthy at 26 pounds! Levi had a bonded buddy who died last summer. Since his loss of Cyrus, Levi has been more social. He comes out into the yard to interact with the others often and feels comfortable coming into his caretaker’s apartment to find a comfy place for a nap! Levi has great house manners. He rarely plays with toys and has never chewed on anything other than a milk bone! He is sweet natured and enjoys pets from people he knows. Levi has gone for an over-night visit with a volunteer and did well. He walks well on a leash. It will take Levi time to warm up to his new family, but it will be worth the time and effort!

Violet is an 8-year-old tri-colored beagle/hound mix. She is up to date on all vaccines and has been spayed. Violet received a weak heartworm positive test and is on heartworm treatment. She is 18” tall and weighs 40 lbs. Violet is a sweet girl and a wonderful momma to her puppies. She enjoys playing with other dogs and dog toys. She is well behaved with people of all ages and other dogs. Don’t let her age fool you, Violet loves going on walks, and she gets the zoomies every afternoon. She is leash, potty and doggy door trained. She is a very calm and easy-going dog who likes to take naps. She is also curious and loves chasing squirrels in the backyard. Her barking is minimal yet on point when someone rings the doorbell and when she needs to go outside/come inside. Violet is the perfect pet for a family interested in a loving, fun, and low maintenance mature dog. She’s ready to be adopted into her loving fur-ever home.”

Amos is a 7 y/o chocolate beagle mix who came to HBHR with a large group of beagles from a hoarding situation in the summer of 2023. It has taken a long time for any of these beagles to become socialized, but Amos has finally made it! Amos has good house manners with the use of a dog door. He will occasionally mark the food bowl of another male but that is more to do with alpha status than manners! He rarely destroys toys and leaves things alone unless they have touched food in the last month! His food drive is all beagle! Amos plays well with the pack and enjoys a good chase. He is alpha and will do best in a home with a more submissive partner. Amos has only recently started allowing people to pet him and really enjoys the attention. He does well around kids and would love having young people to chase around a yard! Amos has not made it to snuggling yet but seeks out one on one attention. He will get to that point, and it would be wonderful if he has a family of his own when he is ready for that next step!

6 y/o Ruby was found stray with a huge laceration on her neck. The Good Samaritan who found her, took Ruby in for emergency care before contacting HBHR for assistance. The wound healed up well and the hair in growing back in on this petite red tick girl! Ruby is a mighty midget! She loves to play but makes sure the ‘big’ boys know that she is in charge. She can be very defensive around larger dogs with warning barks to keep them away from her. Ruby has good house manners and generally leaves things alone that do not belong to the pack. Ruby is friendly with people and enjoys a good cuddle. She is fine around kids and enjoys the company of other small girls which is unusual with an alpha female! Ruby will make a wonderful companion for your family. You will just need to give her time to get to know and trust you.

Patrick is a sweet, gentle boy with just the right amount of spunk. Found as a stray, he’s believed to be around 6 years old and weighs about 30 lbs. He loves curling up on the couch or snoozing the day away while you’re at work. Patrick walks nicely on a leash, though he may get a little excited when he sees other dogs or people passing by. He does great in a pack but is also perfectly happy as an only dog, as he tends to do his own thing. True to his beagle nature, Patrick is very food-motivated and will happily sniff out any treats left within reach. If you’re looking for a calm, easygoing companion with lots of love to give, Patrick could be the perfect fit.

11 y/o Beebe is a Bassett mix who was surrendered to HBHR when his family moved out of the country. They were afraid that he would not do well with a long quarantine. He was extremely over-weight, and it was amazing that he could get around on his legs! It has taken several months but Beebe has gone from 87 pounds to 50+ ponds and is looking great! He has a spring to his step and can now run with the pack when an alert goes out about a squirrel sighting! He can be a bit grouchy when napping and younger pups step on him in their games but is usually mild mannered and only barks when the pack decides it is time to sing! Beebe is affectionate and is first to come for pets in the morning when you first get up. He wants his pets and has no interest in hearing about your full bladder! This sweet boy is good around people and kids and will do well with or without a canine companion.
