I lived with my previous owners my whole life and they said that I am housetrained and well behaved at home, and that I do well on a leash and in the car. I am a bit of a nervous lady, so I would prefer a quiet home to spend my golden years. I am good with other dogs as long as they are calm and leave me alone (no rambunctious puppies, please). Rex is a loving, 4-year-old Beagle/Australian Shepherd mix (53.3% Beagle/47.7% Australian Shepard) who weighs about 33 pounds and is looking for his forever home. He enjoys meeting people and giving hugs and kisses, but he needs time to build trust and has important boundaries. Rex should be the only pet in an adult-only home. He is protective of food, toys, and people, and will do best in an environment where he does not feel stressed about needing to share them with other dogs. Additionally, his personal space must always be respected as he has a history of reacting to being startled while sleeping. When given the opportunity to approach people for affection rather than being approached, he is a wonderfully, loving boy. Rex needs an experienced, dog-savvy adopter—ideally someone familiar with herding breeds and resource guarding—who can provide consistent structure, training, mental and physical enrichment, and predictable routines. He must be allowed to settle in at his own pace, which may take months or longer. With patience and commitment, Rex has the potential to become a trusting, wonderful companion; he has already made strong progress with a knowledgeable foster. We do not have a lot of information on Jack’s past, only that a Good Samaritan rescued this sweet beagle boy from a bad situation. We have no idea why he is so terrified of people, but we have noted that he is generally less afraid of women and that he is terrified of anyone carrying anything in their hands. Jack is such a handsome boy and it is heartbreaking to see him so scared of everything. His eyes say it all. We’re pretty sure there is a lot of love inside this sweet boy that he would like to share with someone. As scared as he is, he has never shown any aggression towards people. He even went through multiple surgeries to correct cherry eye in both eyes and he was a perfect patient during recovery when he had to wear the awful ‘cone of shame’ and had to have eye drops multiple times every day. Approximate age/birthdate: May 19 2019 Weight/size: 30 lbs Housebroken: YES unless he gets scared and piddles Crate trained: YES Personality: extremely shy, very wary of people, enjoys the company of other dogs Energy level: medium Fenced yard required?: YES a 6’ physical fence is required, NO EXCEPTIONS, no underground/electric fence. Does he/she jump fences? He definitely could jump or climb a wire fence or chain link fence. He did escape from a foster home yard once and it was scary! His current yard has privacy fencing. Leash walk with manners: YES … once you get a harness on him, he will walk, although hesitantly when he is taken to a new location Obedience training: NO Riding in vehicles: RIDES OK Spayed/neutered: YES Up-to-date on routine vaccinations: YES Microchipped: YES Social with other dogs: YES Social with cats: NO CATS will be best Good with children: Will probably be best with respectful, calm children ages 10 and up.
