Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Kato came to MCHS in May 2025 as an owner surrender due to rental property restrictions. He's a German shepherd/pit bull mix who is now 3 years old, after being at our shelter for over a year. He's friendly, strong, and active. He's also really handsome! Just don't tell him that - we don't want it to go to his head. Kato has been vet checked, neutered, and microchipped, and his fee is $150. Kato has had some training and knows some basic commands. He does forget his manners sometimes as he's overwhelmed with enthusiastic affection. We do think he has the potential to do okay with a well mannered female dog. He should be okay with older kids. At this time, he likely would not be a good fit for homes with smaller animals. He's bright and eager to please and tries really hard to be a lap dog sometimes. NOTE:  Adoptions are done via private appointment once an application has been completed and approved. Applications must be submitted at our website, mchs.rescuegroups.org. We are located at 101 22nd St. SE in Austin, right next to the airport. It's exit 180B off of I-90, right off of 218 South. We do require that potential adopters be at least 21 years old and that any resident dogs be up to date on vaccinations, heartworm testing/preventatives, and spayed or neutered.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.August 16, 2026, 8:22 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Rowdy arrived at MCHS on 6/13/2026, a transfer from one of our rescue friends after originally coming from a South Dakota Reservation area. He is a solid young shepherd looking mix who is around 8 months old and has some growing left to do. He will need some basic training and has a great attitude. He has been vet checked and neutered and his fee is $150. Rowdy generally resembles a German shepherd and has the ears and coloring of one, but he definitely could have some other breeds in his mix, like husky and various types of herding breed dog. Heelers and other herding breeds and their mixes are very common on Reservations. He is strong and active, so he'll definitely need some good exercise. We do think he'd do well with other dogs. Cats? Maybe, with work and training. He does tend to live up to his name a little bit. He'd probably do okay with older kids, too. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Quest was surrendered to the shelter on 5/9/2025 due to rental restrictions. He is 5 years old and was a very loved dog who had lived in his home his whole life. His owners were forced to relocate and couldn't find an affordable place that would accept dogs like him. Quest is a mix of boxer, Doberman, and pit bull, and he is big and strong. He has been fully vetted and microchipped. His fee of $150 is fully sponsored. Quest did live with his canine sibling in his home and was fine. They grew up together. We do think that he'd be okay with a mellow female dog of similar size. No smaller animals. He would do best in an adult only home. Teens are okay.  Shelter life has been hard on our Quest and he has lost a significant amount of weight. We've had him completely vet checked and this weight loss is due to the stress of the shelter environment. He would make a very loving and loyal companion. He needs a home!
