Story
Introducing Roxy! What’s the first thing you think when you see Roxy? “Whoa… those are some crazy eyes.” Same. But trust us those eyes have seen a lot. Eyes that came minutes away from being euthanized. And now? They suit her perfectly, because Roxy is crazy in all the best ways: - Crazy smart Roxy has classic puppy energy and is still learning how to channel it but in a short time she already knows sit and lay down, is great in a kennel, and is mostly potty trained. With continued training, we’re 100% confident she’ll be an incredibly smart, loyal best friend for an experienced owner. - Crazy friendly Cats? Dogs? Kids? Men? Women? Yes to all. She can be a bit of a bull in a china shop, so she may not be ideal for very small kids but she truly loves everyone she meets. - Crazy athletic She walks well on leash, hops right into the car, and is ready to be your adventure ride-or-die. Hiking, running, exploring there’s no active hobby we can imagine that she wouldn’t love doing right by your side. So if you’re looking to adopt a high-energy, fiercely loyal best friend, in the wise words of TLC: “Don’t go chasing waterfalls.” Go adopt Roxy instead. She’s crazy. She’s sexy. She’s cool. And she’s waiting for her person. Roxy is being fostered in Houston Texas but is available for adoption many places across the country. Adoption fee includes the cost of transport. https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/DSTR/Dog

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Tide and his siblings were saved from a high-kill shelter in Calfornia and arrived at Give a Dog a Home Rescue in Sebec, Maine on Wednesday 3rd August.  We post our adoptable dogs across the East Coast and Canada so we can reach as many amazing adopters as possible and match each dog with their perfect home. Please note: We do not transport dogs. Approved adopters will schedule an appointment for a meet-and-greet at People 'n' Pets, Freeze Dried Goodies & Gear in Dover-Foxcroft, Maine, where you’ll get to meet Tide in person — and hopefully take home your new best friend. If you think Tide might be “the one,” we’d love to hear from you! Health & Background &#226&#156&#133 Neutered &#226&#156&#133 Rabies and all core vaccines up to date &#226&#156&#133 Heartworm/Tick 4DX test: Negative across the board &#226&#156&#133 On monthly flea/tick preventatives &#226&#156&#133 Microchipped &#226&#154&#150&#239&#184&#143 Weight: potential 50-60 pounds Estimated DoB: 23 May 2025 Meet Tide Tide is truly an amazing boy. He has a full package of looks, personality, and yes — he’s a master manipulator! Even after multiple visits to the emergency hospital in Southern Maine, all the staff fell in love with him. One vet even emailed his information to a colleague in New Hampshire just to share what a special pup he is. Medical Background As a young puppy, Tide developed weakness in his legs and, at one point, couldn’t stand or walk. After several trips to the emergency hospital and various treatments, he was diagnosed with two growth-related bone conditions: Hypertrophic Osteodystrophy (HOD) and Panosteitis. Panosteitis (sometimes called “growing pains”) is a temporary, painful inflammation of the long bones that affects young, fast-growing dogs, particularly large-breed mixes like Tide. Symptoms include shifting lameness and discomfort in the legs. Panosteitis is self-limiting, meaning it usually resolves on its own as the dog matures, typically by 18–24 months. Treatment focuses on managing pain and rest during flare-ups. Hypertrophic Osteodystrophy (HOD) is another painful bone condition seen in fast-growing puppies. It can cause fever, swelling, thickened bones, lameness, and general discomfort. The exact cause isn’t fully understood, but genetics, nutrition, and infections may all play a role. Most dogs improve as they finish growing, and severe cases are treated with medications, rest, and sometimes hospitalization. Surgery is rarely needed. Tide is currently on prednisone to manage inflammation and pain, and he is thriving! Prednisone is generally used during flare-ups or when symptoms are more pronounced. As he grows and his bones stabilize, he may not need medication continuously — likely only intermittently for temporary stiffness during growth spurts. By around 2 years old, he is expected to be completely done with active symptoms from both conditions. Even when he couldn’t walk as a puppy, Tide’s sweet personality shone through. He would drag himself around to enjoy attention from vets and staff, and now he’s a playful, confident, and mischievous pup. He sometimes gets a little stiff during growth spurts, but these flare-ups are temporary, and he responds well to medication and rest. Personality & Temperament Tide is a gentle, loving, and affectionate pup. He’s full of confidence and mischief, loves attention, and thrives in an active environment. Despite his medical history, he is playful, curious, and completely puppy at heart. He enjoys interacting with people and other dogs, and he’s always ready to bring joy and energy into his home. Best Buddies Tide is inseparable from his sister Robin. Whether cuddling up for naps or getting into mischief, these two are always together. We would love to see them adopted as a pair so they can continue sharing adventures and companionship in their forever home. Adoption Details Adoption Fee: $550 Location: Sebec, Maine Families must complete and submit an adoption questionnaire. Once approved, you’ll be invited to schedule an appointment to meet Tide. &#226&#143&#177&#239&#184&#143 Applications are generally processed within 24-48 hours Click here to complete the Adoption Questionnaire Want to See More of Tide? Story
If you know and love Malinois mixes, you already know what makes them so special- it’s their intelligence, devotion, and unstoppable drive to bond deeply with their person. Wendy here embodies all of that and more. Take a look at her here then come back to read more- https://youtu.be/XY_xeGiaC4Q Estimated to be about 2½-years-old, Wendy weighs 55-pounds fully-grown, and we believe she is a Malinois mix but given she is a rescue we cannot guarantee breed or birthday. She is also stunning with a soft coat of mixed brown and black fur, a set of amazingly alert ears, and the warmest eyes that just land with connection. Wendy has a dedicated foster who has spent time and energy into ensuring Wendy is best prepared for life in her future home. It didn’t take long for her to show everyone just how much love, joy, and loyalty she has to give. She lives peacefully with three other dogs -two females and one male - and plays happily with them every day. At home, she’s cuddly and affectionate, the kind of dog who leans into you for pets and nudges your hand when she wants more. She’s also well-trained and wonderful on leash - walking politely at your side, calm and focused. Wendy even completed two months of professional training (circle back to her dedicated foster), which helped her master basic manners and develop her natural intelligence. Like many working breeds, she thrives with structure, exercise, and mental enrichment. Daily walks, a good run, or a game of fetch will keep her happiest -she’s athletic, agile, and loves having a purpose. Outside of the home, Wendy can feel unsure in new environments. Me too Wendy. My solution is to just keep it simple- it works like a charm. If you are looking for her to be your tag-along pal please know it is not part of her natural demeanor but she can learn. She’ll need a confident, experienced adopter who understands how to help a Malinois mix build trust and decompress in a new home. Once she bonds with you, she’ll be your shadow, your biggest fan, and your most loyal protector. Because of her strong bond with her people, she may have a little separation anxiety at first, hello to most any and all shepherd mixes- they miss their people, but with patience, routine, and reassurance, we do know she settles in beautifully. Wendy does best with the company of other dogs and would love to be the +1 to another medium-energy dog. Not only does it give her a much appreciated playmate but it helps her confidence when initially settling into a new space and routine. She did meet our house cat and was respectfully cautious but we are recommending a cat-free home currently based on her foster sharing she has tried to chase a street cat. If you are interested in Maggie and have cats we are happy to do a much more thorough cat-test to truly determine her limit. She’s wonderful with other dogs and adores her humans, including her foster family’s gentle 4 year old nephew. She likes him! Wendy is a truly special girl- affectionate, intuitive, intelligent, and loyal to the core. With someone who values her tender heart as much as her strength, she’s going to be extraordinary! Story
Leo is here offering a rare opportunity as the sweetest, toy-loving, cat-tolerant, confident, athletic pint-sized power house boy. His size alone had us all in love then as we got to know him all we could say was “Oh man, he is such a cool dog!” We cannot guarantee breed or birthday with rescue dogs but Leo is bringing so many qualities and the looks of a mid-size Malinois mix. I think he is trying to prove that great things really do come in smaller packages! Estimated to be about 1 years old and weighing in at a perfectly portable 31 lbs! You read that right, hes tiny! Leo offers all the brilliance, athleticism, and heart of a full-size Malinois, just in a compact frame. What a dream, a “fun-size” working dog with drive and loyalty, but much easier to fit on your couch. Take a look for yourself, you'll see what I mean- https://youtu.be/mVz--MTGm5w Leo is so fortunate and is being fostered in a multi-dog home with an experienced foster which means, Leo basically comes pre-programed with the “Good-Boy” Package. House and crate trained, good house manners, well-socialized, seriously it's a pretty sweet package- plus someone who is familiar with him and can answer any questions you might have about him. My favorite thing about Leo is just how social, people-loving band affectionate it. We see a lot of dogs with a high drive and they don’t often melt for attention, Leo though understands that you can work hard and love hard, you don’t have to pick just one. He is curious, affectionate, and thrives on engagement, whether it’s training time, adventure time, or playtime. My next favorite thing is Leo+ a toy! Give him a toy and you’ll immediately see him light up and his inner puppy come out, complete with 110% play shaking the toy and bouncing around with the happiest tail wags. True to his Malinois roots, Leo is a smart, food-motivated learner who responds beautifully to structure and consistency. He has great basic leash skills and continues to perfect walking alongside you with ease, and improving every day. Because he’s both eager to please and athletic, he would excel in training, agility, or any activity that lets him use his brain and body. Leo is dog social and thrives with balanced, confident dog companions though he would be a perfect solo dog in a home where he gets plenty of exercise and engagement, aka- attention. Leo is cat-tolerant with a strong curiosity and playfulness so a dog savvy cat and slow introductions will be key if he lives with feline friends. Apartments are not exactly his style, he would love a yard but could adapt to apartment life with an active adopter ready to channel his energy into fun and structure outside of the apartment life. If you’ve been dreaming of a compact adventure buddy who’s equal parts smarts and heart, Leo is here, ready and waiting for you. The perfect blend of a love for life and loyal affection, this little love-joy is ready to take on the world right by your side. Ready to welcome this amazing, one-of-a-kind friend into your life? This guy is 2.5 years old, well built, has great symmetry, poised, beautiful classic black and red medium length coat, laid back, loving and just downright adorable. Our boy has come back strong from a rough situation and to his credit he has chosen to not let his abuse define him. Dexter is now healthy, happy and strong, weighing in at 75 pounds but will probably have a finished weight of around 90 pounds. This guy has it all, extremely bright, a total love sponge, adores kids, loves other dogs, all Dexter wants is a family to love and take care of. What stands out most about Dexter is his openness, his kindness and his total devotion. As the lead trainer for Dexter I was humbled by his mental strength, his openness, his total love and his human desire. This guy has everything that a loving family could ever possibly desire in a companion. Once completely healthy, Dexter, was able to complete our socialization and training programs with ease. During this process our boy was able to show a very high intelligence, strong desire to bond, openness, tremendous mental toughness, a loving nature and maturity. Dexter has no flaws and any family lucky enough to get him will truly be blessed. This boy defines gentleness, love and strength!

Our girl has shown a passion for overcoming the issue of her poor handling in the past, instead of retreating from life our girl has embraced the task moving on and loving life. Ms. Justice gets along with other dogs very well, enjoys the company of humans of all sizes and is basically a love sponge. Justice came to us with two other German shepherds, one of which is her sister, the other is a male Dutch shepherd. The reason for explaining this is to ensure there is no apprehension associated with possibility of a bonded pair issue, these dogs have no issues. This young lady is extremely intelligent, very open to training, strongly desires human bonding, loves playtime and totally relishes her alone time with her person. We put all of our wards through an extensive program of socialization and training; Ms. Justice handled the process with ease. At this point we have seen nothing that would predict a problem with children, to the contrary our girl has shown an openness and maturity that should bode well for any child contact. As the trainer for this girl, I can tell you that if she has any limits, she has made the decision to keep them to herself, she is quite special! The perfect situation for Justice would be a loving family environment that would provide her with the exercise, continued training, personal time and devotion that she so very much craves.
