Story
Meet Opie!! Meet Opie! He was an owner who surrendered to a local shelter and needed rescue only because the stress of the shelter got to him. Opie is 4 yrs-old GS Malinois Dutch shepherd mix. Sadly he's lived a very confined neglected isolated sheltered life. In other words, he had lazy 💩 owners. As of 11/4, Opie is a sweet, gentle giant but reserved and timid. We have learned that allowing him to approach you on his time is best. 12/22 He loves his people once his trust is gained. Which takes 0 time and effort on the human part. 2/10 Everyone he has meets he has done awesome with. He is willing to try but does needs encouragement. He strives for guidance and needs consistency, routine, and simple daily exercise as well as structured discipline. He is a simple dog always wanting to please. But his confidence cannot be rushed instead when meeting any new folks he needs people to ignore him as if he's not present, do not approach, touch, talk to him or make eye contact and this alone makes meeting anyone easy and possible. 2/17 Opie thrives with companionship and desires physical and verbal acknowledgment from his people. He wants to belong and be part of his people every day life. No reactivity toward cats, or dogs, nor does he have any resource-guarding behaviors. He however is a follower and he needs constant guidance. Opie is good on a leash, still needs work but it's manageable. Very food and praise/affection motivated. 1/22 Opie is currently ongoing heartworm treatment and doing well. Opie is a dog that requires more than basic dog knowledge. He needs leadership and guidance and someone confident and in control at all times. To be continued: Opie is house and crate trained, neuteted, up to date on all appropriate core vaccines including lepto, corona, 3-year rabies, dewormed, fecal tested negative, microchipped, and on monthly heartworm flea/tick prevention. Opie like every AHS dog comes with our lifetime support. Updated: 2/26/2023 We believe training is an ongoing process that needs to be worked on daily. New issues that arise, need to be addressed and/or rewarded. Understanding that continued training is a lifetime commitment, is very important. Out-of-state adopters are welcome at the adopter's expense. Meet & Greets are required before proceeding with an adoption. We DO NOT ship any of our pets. Story
We acquired our pet from a local breeder. He is about 3 years old. We are looking for someone who can give him the dedicated attention he needs. Hopefully challenge him like he would like to be. We work so much we feel that he is not getting to live the life he deserves to live. He is high energy and loves attention. He is fun to be around and plays well with our other dog. He does love having a lot of room to run as he does here and does not leave the domain.

Athena is super sweet and loves belly rubs. I had to move to an apt. complex and they will not allow more than two dogs. I have a chihuahua and a mini Aussie doodle, which is my daughter’s dog. I am sure she will be a great addition to a good loving family or a person that loves animals. She has been with us since she is puppy and has received nothing but love and I only wish she can find the right owner that can take good care of her!

* Beautiful girl that arrived at our shelter as a confused stray* Eager to find her place in the world, has been a little overwhelmed with the shelter life* Can be a little shy meeting new people, but warms up with a little time and a patient human* Very intelligent and already knows a few things (come, sit, and has excellent leash manners)* Fantastic walking/hiking buddy* Can get startled easily with loud noises and quick movements- would likely do best in a quiet home that will give her some time to adjust and feel secure* Loved meeting and playing with dogs at the shelter, really perked up* Would likely come out of her shell a little more if she were to have a dog sibling* Very playful, friendly, and appropriate when introduced to dog buddies* Scared of cats when introduced* Athletic- can jump high and climb (will need monitored when in the yard)* Children: UnknownHopperGerman Shepherd/Belgian Malinois mixFemaleDOB: 5/19/2022Weight: 45 lbs.Heartworm NegativeHopper`s adoption fee is $150 and includes her spay, vaccinations, deworming, microchip, heartworm testing, and a free wellness exam. Story
I’ve had Snoop for several years. I got him from a couple that didn’t realize the big challenge in caring for a high energy dog. I’d say at this point he is around 10 and he hasn’t slowed down all that much. We’ve had tons of adventures over the years and I wish I didn’t feel I needed to do this. I know that it will be the best thing for everyone. A few years ago my situation changed. I had a kid, and settled into an apartment. I thought it’d be fine but I have to leave him in a crate all day while at work. This has led to several days of frustration for me and I’m sure him. As he gets older it’s only getting worse and I’m afraid I’m not close to any real relief in terms of getting him a real yard. He deserves better than I’m able to give him. He’s a good boy.

Layla’s Compatibility:Dogs - Let’s do a meet & greet!Cats - Layla says no thank youKids - Yes, 10+Meet Layla! This beautiful German Shepherd girl is smart, loyal, and full of classic Shepherd personality. She likes meeting new people, enjoys her toys, and has a special talent for finding the squeaker and making sure it does not survive the day. A girl has hobbies!Layla has lived in a home, is housebroken, and knows how to be part of a family. She’s also a treat fan, especially when dental sticks are involved. Like many smart dogs, Layla has a few opinions. She was not a fan of the bathtub, but once staff figured out the tub was the problem and gave her a bath on the floor, she handled it much better. We respect a lady who knows what she likes!Layla’s best fit will be a cat-free home with kids 10 and up. She has lived with another dog before, so we’ll do a meet & greet here with any dogs in the home to help make sure everyone feels good about it.Layla is looking for someone who understands Shepherds and will love her for the smart, loyal girl she is. Come meet Layla at HSHC!

Monet`s Compatibility:Dogs - Bring yours by for a meet and greet!Cats - Prefers a feline-free homeKids - YesMeet Monet! This beautiful 5 year old German Shepherd is looking for someone who understands that a big dog can still have a sensitive side.Monet is affectionate, enjoys being close to her person, and likes attention from people she trusts. She also did wonderfully for grooming here, which is a pretty great detail for a shepherd with all that coat. She hopped right into the tub and let staff pamper her like a pro.Shelter life can be hard on dogs like Monet. She is a smart, strong dog who can get jumpy when excited and can startle at times, so she will do best with someone who can give her clear guidance and help her settle into a routine. If you love German Shepherds and have a soft spot for the ones who need a little help finding their footing, Monet could be a really special match.
