Story
Meet Opie!! Meet Opie! He was an owner who surrendered to a local shelter and needed rescue only because the stress of the shelter got to him. Opie is 4 yrs-old GS Malinois Dutch shepherd mix. Sadly he's lived a very confined neglected isolated sheltered life. In other words, he had lazy 💩 owners. As of 11/4, Opie is a sweet, gentle giant but reserved and timid. We have learned that allowing him to approach you on his time is best. 12/22 He loves his people once his trust is gained. Which takes 0 time and effort on the human part. 2/10 Everyone he has meets he has done awesome with. He is willing to try but does needs encouragement. He strives for guidance and needs consistency, routine, and simple daily exercise as well as structured discipline. He is a simple dog always wanting to please. But his confidence cannot be rushed instead when meeting any new folks he needs people to ignore him as if he's not present, do not approach, touch, talk to him or make eye contact and this alone makes meeting anyone easy and possible. 2/17 Opie thrives with companionship and desires physical and verbal acknowledgment from his people. He wants to belong and be part of his people every day life. No reactivity toward cats, or dogs, nor does he have any resource-guarding behaviors. He however is a follower and he needs constant guidance. Opie is good on a leash, still needs work but it's manageable. Very food and praise/affection motivated. 1/22 Opie is currently ongoing heartworm treatment and doing well. Opie is a dog that requires more than basic dog knowledge. He needs leadership and guidance and someone confident and in control at all times. To be continued: Opie is house and crate trained, neuteted, up to date on all appropriate core vaccines including lepto, corona, 3-year rabies, dewormed, fecal tested negative, microchipped, and on monthly heartworm flea/tick prevention. Opie like every AHS dog comes with our lifetime support. Updated: 2/26/2023 We believe training is an ongoing process that needs to be worked on daily. New issues that arise, need to be addressed and/or rewarded. Understanding that continued training is a lifetime commitment, is very important. Out-of-state adopters are welcome at the adopter's expense. Meet & Greets are required before proceeding with an adoption. We DO NOT ship any of our pets. Story
Aren`t I just the prettiest German Shepherd you`ve ever seen? My last owners surrendered me after I lived and loved them for my whole life. So, at 4 years old, I`m on the hunt for a new family who will treat me like the princess I am. I`ve lived with kiddos and with other big dogs so I`m pretty compatible with anyone. Except for cats, I am NOT a cat fan. Hopefully you aren`t either! Now, let`s talk more about my amazing qualities! I love going on walks, I`m great at fetch, and since I`m a German Shepherd I`m super smart which means I LOVE to train. But, I am going to need your help with some things. Like all the other girlies, I have some tummy issues. This means that I will need lifelong management with medication and special food (but not too special, you can still get my favorite blend at your local pet store or Chewy). Now that I`ve laid it all out there, do you think you could give me a chance? My foster mom think`s I`m the best, but don`t take her word for it- find out for yourself!

Story
Cletus`s Compatibility:Dogs - Meet & GreetCats - No cats for this big guyKids - Cletus would love a home with just grown-ups Cletus is a big-hearted, goofy boy with a rugged charm and an endless supply of tail wags. This brawny yet endearing pup has so much love to give and is searching for a home that understands his quirks and can help him grow into his best self.In his recent home, Cletus showed off several wonderful traits. He was housebroken, did well in his crate, and was a respectful houseguest when left to free roam—no accidents or destruction here! He loves toys and will happily chase them around the yard with a bouncy, silly energy that’s impossible not to smile at. With dogs, Cletus seems to gravitate toward playful interactions, but his leash reactivity means he’ll need patience and guidance during introductions. He’s best walked on a back-clip harness to manage his strength.Cletus thrives in an environment where he has structure and outlets for his energy. While he’s generally a sweet and goofy companion, he`s still learning about personal space and can get mouthy, especially when excited or seeking attention. This behavior highlights his need for a home with experienced adopters who can provide consistency, redirection, and positive reinforcement training. If you’re ready to embrace this rugged, goofy hillbilly charm and help Cletus become the best version of himself, he’s ready to meet you. Let’s give this sweet pup the second chance he deserves!-----Adoption Fees & Benefits:Under 1 year: $2001-4 years: $1005-9 years: $5510+ years: $35Fees include: Heartworm test (age appropriate), vaccinations, flea/tick preventative, complimentary bag of food, wellness exam, and rabies vaccine.A `meet and greet` with any existing dogs in your home is required, supervised by our team in our play areas.
