Meet Cairo, a ridiculously handsome Belgian Malinois with Olympic-level energy, a heart of gold, and the emotional range of a golden retriever on espresso. Cai’s hobbies include: Sprinting like he’s being chased by his own ambition Hiking like he’s training for a National Geographic documentary Playing fetch like it’s a competitive sport (bring two balls unless you enjoy being outwitted) Dominating agility, dock diving, barn hunt—honestly, if it involves movement and showing off, he’s in. He’s crate trained (but expects an explanation if you’re having fun without him), super treat-motivated, and polishing up his manners—including learning not to greet people like a linebacker. Cai is a ride-or-die kind of guy. He loves confident humans (bonus points if you’re female, but competent dudes are welcome too). Now neutered, he’s channeling his energy into learning, bonding, and gradually retiring his career in artistic leg-lifting. Now, let’s talk about his one true nemesis: weather extremes. &#226&#152&#128&#239&#184&#143 Too hot? He’s filing an HR complaint. &#226&#157&#132&#239&#184&#143 Too cold? He wants a parka and a written apology. &#226&#155&#136&#239&#184&#143 Thunderstorms? If there’s even one cloud with attitude, Cairo is going on strike. If it’s raining hard or thundering faintly in the next ZIP code, he’ll hold it until the skies are blue and the squirrels are singing again. He’s not dramatic—just extremely specific. Cai’s dream home includes: &#226&#156&#133 No tiny humans (unless they’re part-ninja) &#226&#156&#133 Dog-savvy adults who know a Malinois isn’t a “chill in the backyard” kind of vibe &#226&#156&#133 A playful female dog or easygoing small male &#226&#156&#133 Maybe a cat—he’s curious, not criminal If you’re ready for a smart, hilarious, occasionally weather-phobic best friend who’ll love you like it’s his job, Cairo’s your guy. He might steal your heart, your shoes, and your spot on the couch—but you’ll never be bored again. Message Kelli Fort-Williamson to meet this high-voltage goofball and start your next adventure. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. ____________________________________________________________ Coordinator: Brandy Whiddon/Valerie SharpHoney is a sweet senior 13 year old Malinois that was found wandering the streets in Texas. She was heartworm positive, underwent heartworm treatment in late 2025 after not responding to the slow kill method. Honey was spayed in February 2026 after tragically finding herself pregnant at almost 14 years old.  The decision to spay her was not made lightly and was only made after weighing what would be in the best interest of Honey. She has been in foster care for too long and needs a soft bed to lay her head.   She is great with people, small and large dogs. Good in the home. We would like Honey to find a safe place to land to live out her golden years. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.ABMR thanks you for taking the time to look at our malinois available for adoption.  March 7, 2026, 10:54 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. ____________________________________________________________ Coordinator: Brittany Berger/Daria AdamsCurrently fostered in VA Looking for a dog with a heart as big as her ears? Meet Bela — a gentle, soulful girl who’s been patiently waiting for her person to come along. Bela is more reserved than her outgoing sister, but don’t let that fool you — once she trusts you, she really trusts you. Her fosters describe her as sweet, sensitive, and smart as a whip. &#226&#156&#168 A few things to know about Bela: She loves head and ear rubs (prepare to be charmed by her little white chin while she leans into your hand). Knows sit and stay — unless a squirrel, cat, or deer tempts her wild side. Polite at mealtimes — sits and waits to be told she can eat. Walks great on a leash and is comfortable with a collar or harness. Prefers not to be crated (she’s been known to Houdini her way out). She sleeps peacefully on a dog bed in the bedroom at night, but is crated when her humans leave the house. Protective of her toys and treats, but no issues with food. Needs supervision in a fenced yard — this girl has serious squirrel-chasing dreams and can climb fences (and yes, even trees). Not cat-friendly, and barks at visitors, but settles down once everyone is inside and seated. Then, she’ll graciously accept pets and attention like the dignified queen she is. She may shake at the vet or hang back in new situations, but Bela has a kind and trusting heart. With a patient adopter and a bit of encouragement, she’ll blossom into your most loyal companion.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.ABMR thanks you for taking the time to look at our malinois available for adoption.  March 7, 2026, 10:54 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. ____________________________________________________________ Daria/BrittneyStray MISSION UPDATE: SPECIAL AGENT OSO IS NOW AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION Attention civilians — this is not a drill.   Special Agent Oso has officially completed his neuter protocol and is now cleared for his next assignment: a forever home.   Agent Profile Breed: Belgian Malinois Age: Approximately 3 years Weight: About 50 pounds Location: Fostered in South Carolina (half way transport is provided to adopters) Status: Neutered, housebroken, crate trained, heartworm negative   Temperament Classification Despite his elite working-dog résumé, Special Agent Oso is secretly more of a relaxed house agent. His foster rates his energy level around a 4–5 out of 10. He enjoys training and being involved with his humans, but he is just as happy hanging out around the house, chewing on toys or bones, and keeping an eye on his people.   Specialized Skills Human Devotion Unit: He will do anything for his people and bonds quickly with the person who handles him most. He can become a lovable velcro dog to his favorite human. Training Operative: Food-motivated and enjoys learning. Transportation Expert: Jumps in and out of vehicles easily and rides great in the car, whether on the seat or in a crate. Professional Walker: Walks very well on both long and short leashes. Domestic Operations: Does great in a crate or kennel and is fully housebroken.   Environmental Clearance Special Agent Oso has been tested in several environments and passed with flying colors.   He enjoys meeting new dogs and plays well with them, though he tends to mirror the energy of the other dogs. He loves meeting new people and strangers. He remained calm when walking around children at a playground, showing curiosity but no chasing or reacting to noise or movement. He has also met chickens, ducks, geese, and ponies, and showed little interest in them. He was even friendly with the pony.   Additional Field Notes He handles baths well, though, like many dogs, he is not a fan of dryers. He is confident around traffic and vehicles. He enjoys toys, bones, and relaxing near his people between activities.   Final Mission Brief Special Agent Oso is the rare Malinois who brings both intelligence and the ability to relax at home. If you are looking for a loyal partner who enjoys training, adventures, and then settling down beside you at the end of the day, this agent is ready to report for duty.   If you are interested in adopting Special Agent Oso, please apply from a computer or tablet (https://www.malinoisrescue.org/forms/form?formid=6574). His forever handler is out there somewhere. — with Daria Adams.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.ABMR thanks you for taking the time to look at our malinois available for adoption.  March 11, 2026, 8:05 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. ____________________________________________________________ Coordinator: Carol AulickMeet Cody – A Remarkable Comeback Story Cody is one special dog, and if you’re looking for a loyal, fun, adventure-ready companion, you don’t want to miss him. He is currently located in Florida. Cody has undergone an incredible transformation and truly come into his own. Today, he is confident, engaged, and full of life. He’s an absolute blast to play with — bring out a tug or a ball and watch him light up. He loves walks and hikes, and when he gets the chance to stretch out in an open field, he runs like the wind. It’s pure joy to watch. Cody is: Crate trained House trained Solid in basic obedience Good on leash Reliable with recall Excellent with other dogs In fact, he’s currently serving as a “helper dog” for the trainer who is fostering him — a testament to his stability and social skills with other dogs. Because Cody does have prey drive, he will not be placed in a home with cats or small children. Cody’s Journey When Cody was first evaluated at the shelter, there were no red flags. He showed no aggression, was not reactive, and did well with other dogs. However, about a month into his initial foster placement, he began showing reactivity toward unfamiliar people entering the home. His foster became uncomfortable taking him out publicly. ABMR had a recommended trainer come out to assess him and he filmed his interaction with Cody (you can watch a small portion of it here):  https://youtu.be/A5fvs_OOUaw He suggested a slow desensitization and counterconditioning approach.   You can hear him say that from seeing Cody's reactions, it will be a fairly long journey because Cody's reactions are pretty intense and severe. The prognosis was not good. Then everything changed. ABMR connected with Matt Welch of Dog Training Boca (https://dogtrainingboca.com/), and Cody began fostering with him. Under Matt’s guidance, Cody’s transformation has been extraordinary. When Cody first arrived, he lacked confidence, was fearful of and reactive with new people, had no interest in toys, and was overweight. Today, he is confident, playful, balanced, and engaged with life. He now loves tug, enjoys playing ball, thrives in pack settings, and carries himself like a completely different dog. Matt does a great job explaining Cody's journey in this video: https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1EyevJSvrb/ .  About 11 minutes in, he shows video before and after with tug on string!   Here are some additional videos that Matt shared: Cody loving pack life: https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1K1bboJD9Q/ Cody walking with the pack: https://www.facebook.com/share/v/16UPW3d3fT/ Confidence - playing ball with Nick: https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1CGxvVMyRB/ The focus of his training wasn’t simply managing behavior — it was building confidence and giving Cody the tools to understand and navigate the world in a healthy, stable way. The result? A happy, resilient dog who is ready for his next chapter. What Cody Needs Cody will thrive with: A confident, consistent handler Continued structure and leadership An active home that enjoys walks, hikes, and play No cats or small children In return, you’ll get a loyal, energetic, deeply connected companion who has already done the hard work of growth. Cody’s story is one of resilience and proper guidance unlocking potential. He’s not just “available” — he’s ready. If you’re looking for a dog with heart, drive, and a comeback story that proves what’s possible, Cody might just be your guy. Please contact Carol, his coordinator, via email at caulick@malinoisrescue.org for more information.  If you are interested in adopting Cody ,  please fill out the adopition application: https://www.malinoisrescue.org/forms/form?formid=6574Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.ABMR thanks you for taking the time to look at our malinois available for adoption.  March 7, 2026, 10:54 am

Story
Meet Lord Alfred: A Noble Heart with a Spirited SoulTrue to his name, Lord Alfred carries himself with a certain majestic flair. This 80-pound bundle of fluff and energy originally arrived as a stray, but we’ve since learned from a previous owner that he has a history of being a loyal companion who has done well living with older children and some canine friends in the past.Lord Alfred has a zest for life and plenty of energy to match his impressive size. Because he’s a large, powerful boy, he’s looking for a family that can keep up with his enthusiasm for outdoor adventures and long walks. He isn’t the biggest fan of the kennel environment and would truly thrive in a home where someone is around more often than not to provide him with the companionship and routine he craves. He has a history of doing well with older children who can handle his size and strength. Lord Alfred has participated in dog tests here at the shelter and has shown he can be selective about his friends. He may be able to live with another dog, but a meet-and-greet is a must to ensure the chemistry is just right. Due to his size and natural prey drive, Lord Alfred is looking for a feline-free home.Alfred is looking for a person who understands large, energetic breeds. He needs plenty of space to move along with training and enrichment to keep his smart mind busy. He would love a household where he won`t be left alone for long stretches, especially as he settles into his new kingdom. If you’re looking for a loyal, fluffy protector with a heart as big as his paws, Lord Alfred might be your perfect match.Lord Alfred is neutered and has received core vaccinations (bordetella, canine distemper, rabies), flea + tick preventative, has been dewormed, and is microchipped. If you are interested in adopting Lord Alfred, reach out to us at 920-733-1717 or adopt@foxvalleypets.org, or feel free to take a peek during our open hours!
