Ellie is a gorgeous 1 year old female dog. We believe her to be a shepherd or malinois mix. She currently weighs about 40 pounds and is fully grown. Ellie was abandoned in rural Texas. Either prior to being abandoned or while living on her own her rear leg was severely injured. After being picked up by animal control and being brought to the shelter, she received the amputation she desperately needed. She has now healed, gained weight, and is ready to be adopted! She gets along well with other dogs and she loves people of all ages. She is high energy- she doesn't let one less leg get her down! She would love an active family who will train her to her full potential! She is up to date on vaccines, dewormed and microchipped, and she comes with her medical records and health certificate from a veterinary examination which certifies her to be in good condition. Her adoption fee is $400, which will be used to support the many animals in our care whose medical bills far surpass their much lower adoption fee. Started on crate training and obedience. Had litter of pups Jan 2025 all with great temperaments. Has been around chickens and barn cats. Can be slow to warm up to new people and can be barky until comfortable with them. Likes to play with other dogs, so would be good with a companion to play with but can get jealous of other dog getting attention. Shares toys with other dogs, but not her food or bones. Just learning to play with toys, lived outside in a kennel with no interaction previously before coming into rescue. If you know your Lunar New Year calendar, you realize she was born in the Year of the Dragon! ABMR was contacted to help her litter, and there are 7 of them who came into rescue in summer 2024. Through no fault of her own, Kali has been returned to rescue, and she is now looking for her forever home. As a good dragon, Kali is intelligent, powerful, energetic, and a born leader. Her confidence continues to emerge. She is a gentle shadow who energetically chases her ball , but once she’s had enough, there is a good off switch. Kali, being intelligent, knows her human should never be too far away, so she is a fantastic cuddle bug and bathroom buddy once she makes you her person. Do you need a hot pad under the blanket? Kali is your girl, and she will even tuck herself into her own bed once she knows you are toasty! Of course, she is house trained, crate trained, and is learning manners such as waiting at the door and other obedience tasks. Being a natural born leader, Kali is always ready to escort her human and the pack outside in a game of chase or to play ball. While Kali can be pushy and exuberant when she wants to play, she is other-dog-friendly with proper introductions and human management. However, she probably would not appreciate a strange dog sticking their nose to hers in a dog park. She sounds like a Malinois, right? With that said, she will use those same leadership skills to warn you of potential human, cardboard box, and crinkle wrapper invasions. If you are interested in becoming Kali’s new human, you should be aware of the following: You need to be ready to provide plain yogurt, apples, carrots, and treat puzzles. She has serious FOMO! Don’t plan to walk into the yard or go potty without her. She is timid in new places , so you will need to be ready to work on continued confidence building. Kali is not a social butterfly. She prefers a quiet home with few guests and slow, appropriate introductions to new people. She is not a good candidate for restaurant patio visits. She does ride well in the car when crated, but she is most excited about the going home part. She prefers women to men initially, but she does warm up to men who are consistent and patient. Kali is from working lines, and due to her drive, she will not be placed with young children, cats, chickens, or other small prey sized animals. She also needs to be supervised when outdoors for these same reasons. This remarkable lady has faced more than her fair share of challenges and emerged with an unshakable spirit and an incredibly loving heart. Millie was found roaming the streets of Brooklyn, likely abandoned by a breeder once she was no longer “useful.” She bears a few old injuries including to her ear and leg but she wears them with grace, giving her a distinguished, classy charm that only adds to her character. Don’t let her age fool you, Millie still brings the heat. She regularly gives young Malinois a run for their money and often outplays a 3-year-old male in a game of fetch. Ball is life for Millie, and she’ll happily keep playing as long as you can keep up. She has the street smarts of a true Brooklyn girl and the heart of Dolly Parton. Millie is currently thriving in a foster home with multiple dogs of different breeds, sizes, and ages, including a Malinois, a Basset Hound, and two Pit Bulls. She gets along well with other dogs, is friendly with strangers, and does great with kids. Millie has basic obedience training, does well in a crate, and is comfortable both indoors and outdoors. She’s a total people lover that expects hugs, gentle nudges for pets, and instant devotion. Anyone who meets her falls in love almost immediately. She would do best in a home familiar with the needs of a Malinois and willing to manage some minor medical care, such as monitoring her ear, which can be prone to infections. In return, Millie offers boundless enthusiasm, unwavering loyalty, and a whole lot of love. Millie is proof that age is just a number and that an experienced, energetic dog can bring more joy than you ever imagined. Athena was brought back into rescue when her owner could no longer care for her due to serious health issues. She is food and toy motivated and she knows some basic obedience and understands how to play fetch (easily returns with the ball). She has a lovely temperament. She loves nothing more than to be close to her humans. She will stick to you like glue and will follow you everywhere. The vet even remarked about how sweet she is. She gets along with other dogs - she is currently living with a male Malinois. She will not be placed in a home with cats or small critters due to her prey drive. She is a very smart girl and is opportunistic and came to her current foster as a counter-surfer. They are working with her to curtail this behavior. She has lots of personality and you will never find a more enjoyable companion to share in your everyday adventures. She will be by your side through thick and thin. Can you provide Fabian with a couch and a soft lap to chill on? Fabian came into rescue after being confiscated due to owner neglect. His ACO tried repeatedly to work with the owner who never followed the minimum required plan of care and Fabian was confiscated. The shelter where Fabian was held reached out to us in the hope that we would provide Fabian with the right experienced home where his needs will be met and he will thrive and forget the year of neglect. He is so deserving. Fabian has endeared himself and found a place in the heart of his two foster families. He is a wonderful dog that has taken well to a house routine. He has gained much needed weight in the short time coming into rescue. Fabian is now ready for his forever home. Fabian is an older calmer Malinois. Calm and quieter yet very much a Malinois. Attention seeking, lovable and seeking love, he will happily sit on the couch or at your feet with you, he is learning to play and to interact with humans rather than playing by himself as he had been doing his whole life. You may notice Fabian playing by himself with a ball but with some encouragement will be happy to play with his humans and any 4 legged friends he is properly introduced to Minimal prey drive. He notices squirrels and yappy pocket dogs during walks in his suburban neighborhood but does not react. No reactivity! Has gotten along with the resident female shepherds in both foster homes. Somewhat aloof he is learning to play with dogs and really enjoying himself. Fabian needs a crate to retreat to. This poor boy spent a lot of his time alone before coming into rescue and needs a safe place. He goes into his crate easily and does not have any separation anxiety. The right applicant will be patient and will continue to teach Fabian to interact with his humans. He sometimes feels safer just playing by himself. Could live in a condo or a townhouse. Does not require a large yard. Likes walks. Needs either a fence or a lead. His stress reaction after years of neglect is flight. Not protective: he may not even let you know you are getting a delivery Has all the basic training and his fosters are working on his recall. Malinois experience preferred but not required NOT cat tested Fabian is located in Fairfield County, Connecticut. Fabian is neutered and up to date on veterinary care and received a clean bill of health at his latest visit Please email his coordinator Valerie at vsharp@malinoisrescue.org if you think you can provide him with the right home.
