He was taken into the Montgomery County SPCA on 11/24/2023. On December 27 th , I adopted him. He was supposedly a German Shepherd mix, but multiple trainers including a K9 International trainer for law enforcement in Kingston NY told me he is predominantly Belgian Malinois with some Akita and maybe some lab.  HE IS A VERY GOOD DOG, AFFECTIONATE AND LOVES TO KISS AND LICK! I found Winston to be extremely intelligent, he learned sit, stay, come, place (down), and drop (a ball) in 2 days! He loves to play ball, although I haven’t tried him off leash, just in fenced yards and a dog park. While this breed is highly intelligent and highly trainable, they are also very energetic. He was evaluated in a doggy day care (Harveys Pet in Johnstown NY) and because of his high energy, running and playfulness, he was asked not to come back. They confirmed that he showed no signs of aggression or separation anxiety, just lots of energy. He loves his toys, but they need to be hard rubber (KONG) or very tough nylon. Anything remotely soft he will chew through. That includes tennis balls. I had started crate training him, he has been doing ok but not real happy about it. He will go in the crate if you say “place” and give him a treat. Also be sure to give him a Kong or other toy that cant be chewed up. I had a Ring camera in the room where his crate was, and if I saw him getting anxious and pawing at the door/barking, I would say “Winston Place” a couple times and he would settle right down. Again, extremely intelligent. He walks very well using a pronged collar, and is very good about letting you know when he has to go outside, he will go to the door and pace by it. In my opinion, Winston would do best with someone who has the time to be diligent with training. He needs LOTS of exercise and play time. I did not allow him to sleep on the bed, but he did like to lay on the floor next to me as opposed to another room or even at the foot of the bed on the floor. Eating – VERY food motivated. I’d advise not having any food on the counter or table that he can get to. He didn’t chew or destroy anything, but does like to “mouth” your hands, arms, and feet. He will stop when asked, and bitter apple spray on your hands does help. I gave him 2 cups of dry Pedigree dog food morning and night. Lastly, and this is important, when correcting him do it in a GENTLE VOICE. Almost a whisper. Yelling at him or even raising your voice does not work. I have pictures and videos of training him, don’t hesitate to call or text me and I am happy to share. He will be a fantastic dog for the right family who has the time to train him and exercise him! Story
I`ve had about enough of life lately. I`ve seen other dogs come and go and I`ve waited patiently, but the light and the hope inside of my heart has dimmed a little bit more each time. I`m not telling you this so that you`ll feel bad for me, I`m just sharing my truth and hoping the right person hears it; they don`t call me Honesty for nothin`. I often lay awake at night wondering what a life outside of the kennel environment would look and feel like. I`ve thought often about the friends I could make, the places I could sniff, the adventures that await me...but in these four walls I wait. I`m not the kind of dog that does well with waiting around, I`m the kind of dog that needs a purpose. The kind of dog that needs work to do. The kind of dog that needs an experienced handler and a busy schedule. The kind of dog that was never meant for a life in a kennel.

Story
Man, am I sick of being unemployed. My name is Mango and I show up early, stay late and don`t complain about overtime, nights or weekends. I don`t even need minimum wage; steady hard work and exercise will be the key to my happiness (I sure hope your throwing arm never tires). I`m a driven and intense dog, loyal to a fault and ready to be rewarded with a love that lasts. If you`re a first time dog owner, you`ll need to keep scrolling and I mean that in the best way possible. I am not a dog for the faint of heart or ill experienced. The road I`ve traveled to get here hasn`t always been easy and at times it was quite dark but I think I`m finally starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Hiiiiiii my name is Radar and I love you, will you give me belly rubs? After that throw my ball. Here throw it again. And again. And again. I’ll give it right back to you if you throw it again. I don’t care if you’re bad at throwing, because I’m really good at sniffing it out if it goes missing.  My foster mom says I’m “high energy” and she has made me do a ton of boring work on laying on a cot while she does human stuff in the kitchen. It is kinda nice to chew on my toy next to her on the couch while she looks at the glowing talking box. That gets boring and I try to get her to play by giving her some chomp chomps, but then I end up in my crate. That’s ok, I like taking naps there as long as there isn’t too much fun going on around me. Sometimes she gives me lots of food to do things she calls “down” and “come” and “heel” and “stay”. I like food. As long as here’s NO CHICKEN  in it because that gives me bad poops. But I know I’m not supposed to do that in the house.  There’s another dog in the house. I really don’t care much about him except that foster mom pays attention to him sometimes instead of me and I make sure she hears about how ridiculous that is.  Foster mom has brought me to search and rescue training and stores and all sorts of places. New places are awesome and there’s so many fun people to meet! But in order to get there she puts me in  a   Car  and I have to sit there for so long and I Hate it, it scares me. Anyway, foster mom says that there is a better home out there for me where I’ll get lots more attention and won’t have to go in the car as much. Right now I spend too much time in my crate because my foster brother doesn’t like me and he and mom travel a lot.  I’m a 1 year old neutered male 42 lb solid black malinois AND SO HANDSOME, the ladies just swoon all over me and the guys just want to be like me because lets face it, I know how to pull the chicks….. I’m Up to date on all my vaccinations, HW negative. I haven’t been around kids but I just love people; I’m still learning not to be mouthy though and I can jump really high. If you want to know more about me please contact my foster mom directly as this is a COURTEST POST.
