Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. ____________________________________________________________ Coordinator: Carol AulickMeet Cody – A Remarkable Comeback Story Cody is one special dog, and if you’re looking for a loyal, fun, adventure-ready companion, you don’t want to miss him. He is currently located in Florida. Cody has undergone an incredible transformation and truly come into his own. Today, he is confident, engaged, and full of life. He’s an absolute blast to play with — bring out a tug or a ball and watch him light up. He loves walks and hikes, and when he gets the chance to stretch out in an open field, he runs like the wind. It’s pure joy to watch. Cody is: Crate trained House trained Solid in basic obedience Good on leash Reliable with recall Excellent with other dogs In fact, he’s currently serving as a “helper dog” for the trainer who is fostering him — a testament to his stability and social skills with other dogs. Because Cody does have prey drive, he will not be placed in a home with cats or small children. Cody’s Journey When Cody was first evaluated at the shelter, there were no red flags. He showed no aggression, was not reactive, and did well with other dogs. However, about a month into his initial foster placement, he began showing reactivity toward unfamiliar people entering the home. His foster became uncomfortable taking him out publicly. ABMR had a recommended trainer come out to assess him and he filmed his interaction with Cody (you can watch a small portion of it here):  https://youtu.be/A5fvs_OOUaw He suggested a slow desensitization and counterconditioning approach.   You can hear him say that from seeing Cody's reactions, it will be a fairly long journey because Cody's reactions are pretty intense and severe. The prognosis was not good. Then everything changed. ABMR connected with Matt Welch of Dog Training Boca (https://dogtrainingboca.com/), and Cody began fostering with him. Under Matt’s guidance, Cody’s transformation has been extraordinary. When Cody first arrived, he lacked confidence, was fearful of and reactive with new people, had no interest in toys, and was overweight. Today, he is confident, playful, balanced, and engaged with life. He now loves tug, enjoys playing ball, thrives in pack settings, and carries himself like a completely different dog. Matt does a great job explaining Cody's journey in this video: https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1EyevJSvrb/ .  About 11 minutes in, he shows video before and after with tug on string!   Here are some additional videos that Matt shared: Cody loving pack life: https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1K1bboJD9Q/ Cody walking with the pack: https://www.facebook.com/share/v/16UPW3d3fT/ Confidence - playing ball with Nick: https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1CGxvVMyRB/ The focus of his training wasn’t simply managing behavior — it was building confidence and giving Cody the tools to understand and navigate the world in a healthy, stable way. The result? A happy, resilient dog who is ready for his next chapter. What Cody Needs Cody will thrive with: A confident, consistent handler Continued structure and leadership An active home that enjoys walks, hikes, and play No cats or small children In return, you’ll get a loyal, energetic, deeply connected companion who has already done the hard work of growth. Cody’s story is one of resilience and proper guidance unlocking potential. He’s not just “available” — he’s ready. If you’re looking for a dog with heart, drive, and a comeback story that proves what’s possible, Cody might just be your guy. Please contact Carol, his coordinator, via email at caulick@malinoisrescue.org for more information.  If you are interested in adopting Cody ,  please fill out the adopition application: https://www.malinoisrescue.org/forms/form?formid=6574Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.ABMR thanks you for taking the time to look at our malinois available for adoption.  March 2, 2026, 8:40 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. ____________________________________________________________ Coordinator: Chris WoodAn Echo… the reverberation of sound or to be reminiscent of certain characteristics. Meet ABMR’s Echo who is both of these and more. Are you a calm, focused handler who would like an active partner? Do you crave a teammate who will work with you daily on both mental and physical fitness, growing and learning together? Are you looking for a Malinois to add some affectionate spunk to your pack? Echo is your guy!  Echo’s foster parents took it slow with pack introductions, and he has thrived. He enjoys parallel walks with both a younger, very social female and an older gentleman who is accepting of his presence. Echo’s Malinois antics prevent full on bitey-face play as the other dogs in the family don’t pack quite the punch he does, but they are all happy to enjoy the great outdoors on leash with their people. In addition to being a great fitness partner, Echo is a fabulous puzzle solver, ball fetcher, cycling partner, and napper. Cycling? Yep. He will run a couple of miles alongside the bicycle, and he has learned that the tires are not for biting. Can you imagine the first time he saw those tires spinning? After a good workout, it’s nap time, but like most Malinois, Echo needs continued practice with his off switch. Echo is the type of dog who will continue to build stamina if you don’t remind him to rest. His foster parents have done a fantastic job with his foundational skills, but his adopter will need to continue dedicated daily work for Echo to thrive. Thus far, Echo knows the following commands: sit, here, down, wait, paw, free (relaxed time to explore), okay (release command), ball, and kennel. He is always rewarded for going into the kennel, and he has recently begun to tuck himself into bed (kennel), waiting patiently for his reward. This Maligator has good leash manners, but like many younger Mals, he might still grab it and attempt a game of tug. Carrying an appropriate tug toy while on walks helps redirect the behavior. Echo has also ventured outside the neighborhood for bath time and visits to busier areas of town. He has remained neutral in those situations, but we don’t recommend allowing others to invade his personal space. Echo will not be placed in a home with small animals as he does have prey drive, nor will he be placed with children under 10. Older children will be considered. He is NOT kid, chicken, small dog, or cat tested. He is NEVER outside the fence unleashed as he shows great interest in cars and deer. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.ABMR thanks you for taking the time to look at our malinois available for adoption.  February 26, 2026, 1:49 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. ____________________________________________________________ deb keith (courtesy llisting) COURTESY POST Winston was found as a stray on the streets of Amsterdam NY. He was taken into the Montgomery County SPCA on 11/24/2023. On December 27 th , I adopted him. He was supposedly a German Shepherd mix, but multiple trainers including a K9 International trainer for law enforcement in Kingston NY told me he is predominantly Belgian Malinois with some Akita and maybe some lab.  HE IS A VERY GOOD DOG, AFFECTIONATE AND LOVES TO KISS AND LICK! I found Winston to be extremely intelligent, he learned sit, stay, come, place (down), and drop (a ball) in 2 days! He loves to play ball, although I haven’t tried him off leash, just in fenced yards and a dog park. While this breed is highly intelligent and highly trainable, they are also very energetic. He was evaluated in a doggy day care (Harveys Pet in Johnstown NY) and because of his high energy, running and playfulness, he was asked not to come back. They confirmed that he showed no signs of aggression or separation anxiety, just lots of energy. He loves his toys, but they need to be hard rubber (KONG) or very tough nylon. Anything remotely soft he will chew through. That includes tennis balls. I had started crate training him, he has been doing ok but not real happy about it. He will go in the crate if you say “place” and give him a treat. Also be sure to give him a Kong or other toy that cant be chewed up. I had a Ring camera in the room where his crate was, and if I saw him getting anxious and pawing at the door/barking, I would say “Winston Place” a couple times and he would settle right down. Again, extremely intelligent. He walks very well using a pronged collar, and is very good about letting you know when he has to go outside, he will go to the door and pace by it. In my opinion, Winston would do best with someone who has the time to be diligent with training. He needs LOTS of exercise and play time. I did not allow him to sleep on the bed, but he did like to lay on the floor next to me as opposed to another room or even at the foot of the bed on the floor. Eating – VERY food motivated. I’d advise not having any food on the counter or table that he can get to. He didn’t chew or destroy anything, but does like to “mouth” your hands, arms, and feet. He will stop when asked, and bitter apple spray on your hands does help. I gave him 2 cups of dry Pedigree dog food morning and night. Lastly, and this is important, when correcting him do it in a GENTLE VOICE. Almost a whisper. Yelling at him or even raising your voice does not work. I have pictures and videos of training him, don’t hesitate to call or text me and I am happy to share. He will be a fantastic dog for the right family who has the time to train him and exercise him! Story
I`ve had about enough of life lately. I`ve seen other dogs come and go and I`ve waited patiently, but the light and the hope inside of my heart has dimmed a little bit more each time. I`m not telling you this so that you`ll feel bad for me, I`m just sharing my truth and hoping the right person hears it; they don`t call me Honesty for nothin`. I often lay awake at night wondering what a life outside of the kennel environment would look and feel like. I`ve thought often about the friends I could make, the places I could sniff, the adventures that await me...but in these four walls I wait. I`m not the kind of dog that does well with waiting around, I`m the kind of dog that needs a purpose. The kind of dog that needs work to do. The kind of dog that needs an experienced handler and a busy schedule. The kind of dog that was never meant for a life in a kennel.

Story
Man, am I sick of being unemployed. My name is Mango and I show up early, stay late and don`t complain about overtime, nights or weekends. I don`t even need minimum wage; steady hard work and exercise will be the key to my happiness (I sure hope your throwing arm never tires). I`m a driven and intense dog, loyal to a fault and ready to be rewarded with a love that lasts. If you`re a first time dog owner, you`ll need to keep scrolling and I mean that in the best way possible. I am not a dog for the faint of heart or ill experienced. The road I`ve traveled to get here hasn`t always been easy and at times it was quite dark but I think I`m finally starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
