Story
Description: Elsie came from a local shelter, which unfortunately has a very high intake of animals. For a 2 year old dog Elsie has lots of puppy energy and loves exploring. She knows how to sit and lay down, but could use some more training. She is currently on a no-grain diet, due to stomach sensitivity. Looking For: She loves to bark so a farm or a place with more than 1 acre of land would be very suitable for Elsie. She loves playing with our other dog, but can be very anxious with other dogs. Elsie is not an apartment, townhouse type of dog. She needs lots of space and activity to be happy. Adjectives: loyal, friendly, goofy and joyful.

Story
-KNOWN WITH DOGS: Zelda does not do well with other dogs -KNOWN WITH CATS: Zelda would not do well with a cat household -KNOWN WITH KIDS: Zelda would do best in a adult home due to her needs -KNOWN HOUSEBREAKING AND/OR CRATING: Zelda is housetrained! ABOUT THIS ANIMAL: Meet Zelda – A Smart, Affectionate, and Active 4-Year-Old Companion Are you looking for a loyal, clever, and loving dog? Zelda, a beautiful German Shepherd mix estimated to be 4 years old and weighing 54 lbs, is searching for her new forever home. Her current family is heartbreakingly looking for a new placement where she can truly thrive due to her specific environmental needs. Zelda is an incredibly affectionate and goofy dog who absolutely loves human company. She is great with both adults and older children, and she will constantly make you laugh with her silly personality. She is also highly intelligent and eager to learn; if you enjoy training, Zelda will amaze you with how quickly she picks up new cues. Her Favorite Activities: Snuggling: She is a true cuddle bug who absolutely loves curling up and snuggling with her humans. Outdoor Adventures: She is a fantastic travel partner who loves car rides. In quiet, trigger-free areas, she thoroughly enjoys hiking in the woods and mountains, exploring her surroundings, and going for a swim! Playtime: Nothing makes her happier than chasing and playing with her favorite tennis balls. Home Manners & Health: House-Trained: Zelda is fully house-trained and behaves very well when left home alone for a few hours. Health Status: She is fully vetted, healthy, up-to-date on all vaccinations, and receives monthly Symparica Trio preventative care. Her Quirky Habit: Zelda is a skilled "counter-surfer." If food is left unattended on the kitchen counter, she will happily help herself. A household that keeps a tidy kitchen will easily manage this quirk. Ideal Home & Special Needs: Because Zelda becomes highly reactive when she sees other dogs or animals, she must be the only pet in the household. She needs an experienced, confident owner who can guide her through these reactive moments on leash. Due to her activity level and her need for a safe space to play without encountering other animals, a home with a securely fenced yard in a quiet neighborhood is ideal for Zelda. Zelda at a Glance: Breed: German Shepherd mix Age & Weight: Estimated 4 years old, approx. 54 lbs Health: Healthy, fully vaccinated, on monthly Symparica Trio Personality: Very sweet, goofy, affectionate, a true cuddle bug, and loves tennis balls People Skills: Excellent with adults and older children Animal Compatibility: Must be the only pet (highly reactive to dogs and other animals) On the Go: Loves car rides, swimming, and hiking in the woods/mountains (in quiet areas) Home Manners: Fully house-trained, can stay home alone, but will steal food from counters Zelda has so much love to give and will reward the right owner with endless devotion and warm cuddles. If you have a peaceful, pet-free home with a fenced yard and the experience to help her navigate her reactivity, Zelda is your perfect match. She can be reactive to other dogs and needs someone willing to work with her on this. -ABOUT THIS ANIMAL: Meet Lilly – A Mother Who Deserves Her Happily Ever After This beautiful shepherd has been through more in her few years than any dog should ever have to endure. Before coming into rescue, much of Lilly's life revolved around raising puppies. By the time she arrived at Homeward Trails, she had already welcomed three litters into the world. Her most recent puppies were surrendered alongside her when they were only a week old. For much of her life, Lilly was valued for what she could provide to others she was known as "money maker". Now, it's finally her turn. Lilly has a wonderful balance of playful energy and gentle affection. She loves spending time with her people just as much as she enjoys romping around playfully. Once playtime is over, she's more than happy to settle in for pets, soak up attention, and enjoy the simple comforts she's gone without for far too long. We will connect you to her foster! LOCATION: Trails Home Farm in Delaplane, VA ADOPTION COORDINATOR: Trails Home Farm Staff ADOPTION FEE: ADOPTION FEE: WAIVED! I'M PART OF THE REWARDS PROGRAM AND MY ADOPTION FEE IS WAIVED. WE WILL ALSO PAY MY FOSTER OR ADOPTER $500. HT has a number of dogs that need very special homes. These dogs have been failed by humans along the way, leaving them homeless and with issues from their treatment. We'll be honest. Some of them are real jerks. But not always. And not to everyone. Not everyone can be charming ALL the time, right? Others are just fearful and don't like other animals because they have had a bad interaction at some point. Some of them love other dogs but are just plain scared of everything. But all of them are good on the inside. And we believe that ALL of them deserve a chance at life and love. And we're looking to find the right human out there to make that happen. But competition is tough. And they're up against small, well-behaved doggies...so we are offering incentives for special humans willing to give these pooches a chance. WE WANT YOU! ***We are paying $500 to any approved foster or adopter of our REWARDS dogs.*** The human will also get ongoing training support, all supplies covered and a $25 Amazon gift card each month for 6 months. You will learn and grow. You will be doing a world of good for a dog who has really had it rough in life. ------ HT ADOPTION INCLUSIONS: -Spay/Neuter -First 3 distemper series vaccines and dewormings -Rabies vaccine* age appropriate at time of adoption -Microchip - lifetime with no registration fees -Current on heartworm preventative -Current on flea/tick preventative ---- EXCLUSIVE HTAR ADOPTER BENEFITS: -$15 off your first chewy order of $49.00 or more -Exclusive pet insurance offers - $250 coverage at any VCA Hospital in the country -COMPLIMENTARY FIRST EXAMS at 10 DC-Area veterinarians - Free year-round dog training - KEEP YOUR PET SAFE: Homeward Trails is proud to offer PetLink GPS trackers that will allow you to know where your pet is in real time.**Exclusive for HT Adopters (does not include subscription plan): $50 Check it out here: https://landing.petlink.net/gps-dog-tracker -A portion of EVERY ADOPTION FEE supports spay/neuter efforts in under resourced communities -Free doggy day care offers -EXCLUSIVE DISCOUNTS for Homeward Trails events and merchandise -Win a $50 Amazon gift card

Story
Meet Templeton! What exactly IS Templeton? Cattle dog? Beagle? Shepherd? Potato? Your guess is as good as ours. We may never solve the mystery, but we do know one thing for sure: whatever breeds went into this recipe, they made one cuddly dog. He’s a medium size- around 45lbs. Templeton loves getting attention more than anything, but he also has a passion for squirrel surveillance. We haven’t tested him with cats, but given his enthusiasm for chasing things, we suspect he may consider a cat to be an exciting new assignment rather than a roommate.Templeton loves being with people of all ages and will gently shove his face into your personal space for attention. If you’re looking for a dog who will happily keep you company, accept an unreasonable number of pets, and make sure you’re never lonely again, he’s your guy.To meet Templeton, please fill out our adoption application at: https://hsfc.org/adoptions/applications/online/
