Story
“...if you love life, life will love you back."  Arthur Rubinstein   Meet Haya. Haya translates to life in Hebrew. So when you adopt Haya, you are giving her a safe and happy life and she provides you with lots of love.    Haya is a 12-year-old senior, 60-pound (needs to gain weight) female, German Shepherd Dog. And while Haya may not have as much time left as a younger dog, she is ready to live her life and love you to the fullest.    Ever thought of owning a German Shepherd? Haya is already house trained, crate trained, and leash trained with slight pulling. Her cue when she wants to go outside is to stand at the back door, and she understands when her foster mom says "crate." She never meets a stranger, is sweet and gentle with her foster mom's young children (ages 1 to 5), and loves other dogs! And while she barks at cats, she doesn't chase or growl.   Haya came to us with a case of heartworms, but she will begin her treatment as soon as she is at a healthier weight.    Complete an adoption application for this sweet girl so you can give her the life and love she deserves.         For inquiries, email inquiry@angelsrescue.org     An Adoption Application for this dog can be found and submitted online.   http://www.angelsrescue.org/adopt/adoption-forms   Please be sure to like our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/angelsrescue.   Note: Some apartments and neighborhoods have breed restrictions. Not good with cats,
Story
This stunningly handsome boy, Leroy LaCroix, was pulled from animal control the day before he was scheduled to be euthanized. He is thought to be about 6 years old and weighs about 85 pounds.   Leroy came into foster care with heart worms for which he has recently completed treatment. He has made great strides while in foster care with learning to trust and remembering what it's like to be a carefree, playful pup. He is still cautious of strangers, but seems to warm quickly. It takes some time to gain his trust, but once he has learned he can trust, he so loves to be petted and wants to be where the people are; he craves attention and affection and is learning to relax for belly rubs. He is not a huggable cuddle bug, but he does lean against his foster mom as his way of expressing his trust and affection. Leroy will need a home where the person or people are understanding and go slow with him, listen to what he is trying to communicate, and adjust accordingly until he is comfortable and knows he can trust them. Previous experience with and understanding of the German Shepherd breed would be very helpful. Any training should be based on positive reinforcement; he is very food and treat motivated, so he is easy to train.   Leroy is very smart and is fine tuning his manners. He walks well on leash, but does still pull a bit when really excited and wanting to investigate something. Cats and small animals are not for Leroy as he likes to chase.  A fenced yard with no less than a 6 foot privacy fence for bird and squirrel chasing, perimeter patrolling, or just playing with a ball would be ideal. It is unknown at this time as to whether he likes the company of other dogs or would prefer to be an only fur baby as his contact with other dogs has been limited during his heart worm treatment and post-treatment recovery.   He is playful and loves to play with the balls on ropes in the backyard. No small or young children (under 10-12); he likes to jump up on people when playing or excited, something he is working on correcting.  In foster care, he has learned to be a happy, unthreatened dog. With some patience and work at trust building in his new home, he will develop into a more secure and even happier fellow than he already is. He is a sweet, gentle giant, but also a big, goofy kid at heart.   If you can be Leroy's next angel, he would really love to have a loving, caring home to call his own.   An Adoption Application for this dog can be found and submitted online. http://www.angelsrescue.org/adopt/adoption-forms    Please be sure to like our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/angelsrescue.  Email inquiry@angelsrescue.org    Note:   Some apartments and neighborhoods  have breed restrictions. Story
Hi there. As a long-time dog foster mom, I want to tell you about a VERY SPECIAL GIRL, Lily Maureen.   Three-year-old Lily came into our rescue scared and desperate for someone to care for her. She started to learn what it was like to be cared for and loved on by humans. And she discovered that once she gets to know and trusts you, you are her everything. Her idol. Her whole world. And she will love you fiercely like you've never been loved before. This girl is a once-in-a-lifetime companion who will fill any hole in your heart.   With proper introductions, she slowly warmed up to my husband and our three kids. In two weeks, she went from barking at and avoiding my husband, to affectionately shoving herself in his lap for snuggles and belly rubs. She loves all our kids, even the one who doesn't like animals. And she LOVES romping with and racing our other dogs around the backyard.   Lily is 100% housetrained, and although very playful and puppy-like, she isn't a chewer or ankle biter, and she never whines when left alone. She is not crate trained, but she waits patiently and quietly when gated off for rest time or bedtime. She walks well on a leash when not distracted by neighborhood dogs, and sniffing is her favorite pastime (right after snuggling). She is very treat-motivated and learns extremely quickly.    We have worked with a trainer (and lots of hours in-between) and Lily has made amazing progress. Her trainer is so impressed with the strides she has made, and even though she still has a ways to go, her trainer says, "I am so excited to see how this dog will blossom!" She will get there with someone committed to her continued training and socialization. Lily does need a home with a female caregiver, as she takes longer to warm up to men.   If you are willing to put in some extra time up front with this beautiful girl, she will repay you tenfold. Will you be her hero?   An Adoption Application for this dog can be found and submitted online.  http://www.angelsrescue.org/adopt/adoption-forms     Please be sure to like our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/angelsrescue.  Email inquiry@angelsrescue.org    Note:   Some apartments and neighborhoods  have breed restrictions.
