Story
Our girl Trixie is ready for her debut. Her gorgeous, good looks are the icing on the cake. What is underneath the exterior is even more intriguing. She is a 5-year-old Bernese mountain dog and weighs around 90 pounds. Life circumstances changed for her former owner, so Trixie was surrendered to us through no fault of her own. She is hopeful and looking forward to finding the perfect fit for her with her forever family. She is good with other dogs, older children and cats. She needs another dog to live her best life so that she can pick up and follow cues to have her inner confidence emerge. She can express some nervousness, and she will require a quiet home and an owner with lots of patience who can provide comfort, care and security as she navigates through her new home life. Having one or more resident dog or dogs around will help her to adjust smoothly and live her best life. A resident companion canine for Trixie is a must so she can be the best canine family member possible. She does well with human attention and loves belly rubs. She is a medium energy gal so a bit of active with regular exercise and certainly lots of attention is the right combination to bring her into the family unit.Trixie is a bit of an escape artist and even with an outdoor fence she will need to be leashed as she is normally on alert to find ways around a fence. She is working on her crate and leash training skills. Trixie will need time, and a committed owner to help her learn her skills so she can be the best canine companion possible. She is a professional at her housetraining and will demonstrate how well she does to her new family. Although she is housetrained, it is important to remember that accidents can happen while adjusting to a new home environment. One thing is for certain and that is Trixie loves her humans. She thrives on tender loving care. For Trixie all roads lead to the happiness she knows she will find with her one and only family.* When considering adoption, keep in mind that dogs thrive on structure and routine. They adjust much better when their owners are committed to providing consistency and stability. The adoption fee for Trixie is $500. That includes the cost of spaying/neutering, up to date vaccinations, foster care, rescue and transportation fees. To get the ball rolling, head over to our Adoption Application and submit your application today. A Dog Star representative will contact you within 24 hours. To speed up the process, contact your vet and give them permission to speak with us.If you do not get a response within 24 hours, check your spam folder.February 12, 2026, 5:50 am

Story
Bear Foster/Home Needed – Long Island, NY area Meet Bear. This sweet, social, 12-year-old gentleman is looking for the perfect home to spend his golden years. Bear is a large mixed breed weighing approx. 50lbs. He was surrendered by his people because they were moving, and Bear was not welcomed to move with them ☹ He is slightly underweight and originally showed signs of neglect. Thankfully we were able to find a wonderful, temporary home for him, but he needs a place and people to call his own. Bear has no idea he is 12 and we are not telling him. He loves to play and run around; enjoys his walks but he also loves a movie and to nap with his stuffed animals. He loves puzzle toys and treats 😊. This guy really just loves life. He has really come out of his shell, now that he’s safe and well cared for. He’s good with kids, good with cats and friendly with familiar dogs. We'd love to see Bear spend his final years in a comfy and calm environment. If you think you are the right home for this deserving guy, please contact adoptions@paws-li.org or go to our FB page or call the number listed below.
