Story
Mackinaw Have you ever watched the TV show, “The Incredible Dr. Pol”? Well, my foster mom has been binge watching the show and trying to figure out a name for me and since the show is based in Michigan, she came up with my name, which is Mackinaw. It means ‘large turtle’ in the Ojibwa language, one of the Indian tribes in the area. I don’t think I look like a large turtle but whatever…. I am probably a Bernese Mountain Dog mix of some sort, and I am very loveable and sweet. I was found in the middle of the road and my foster mom was concerned that I was thrown from a car because I was not using my left rear leg as well as I was using the right one. But after some crate rest for a week and a visit to the vet to get an exam and some x-rays done, I am happy to say that nothing is broken and I am using my legs like I am supposed to now. Very good news! I will probably be a large medium or a small large size, if that makes sense. About 50-60 pounds or so. But since my breed is based on my handsomely good looks, it is hard to tell how big I will be when I grow up. And my breed is just a guess anyhow, only a DNA test will tell for sure, but I am 100% purebred lover boy. I was born about the third of November of 2025 and am available to go to my forever home!! Adoption fee in Texas is $250. Out of State adoption fee is $550 with transport and fuel surcharge.

To adopt this animal, please visit https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt All of our animals come spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, are microchipped, heartworm negative, current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention, dewormed, and treated for any ailments found upon veterinary examination. The adoption fee covers a portion of these services, and makes it possible for us to continue rescuing animals. An application does not obligate you to adopt. Please understand that due to the volume of applications some animals receive, we are unable to contact all applicants. If your application is considered a good fit for the animal you are interested in, or even a different pet, a volunteer will give you a call as soon as possible. We are a foster based rescue and do not have a shelter location where animals can be seen during the week. Please see our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/LouiesLegacy for our weekly adoption album if you are interested in meeting an animal in person. Story
Meet Spot! Spot is a 10.5-month-old 17 pound Bernedoodle who is learning what it means to feel safe, loved, and cared for. He got his name because he has a very distinguished spot on the side of his body that makes him extra special. His superpowers include his gentle nature, his ability to stay very still and cooperative during grooming and nail trims, and his strong bond with other dogs. During baths, he may try to get out of the water, but he does not yell or bark and does well when reassured and comforted. He is still unsure about new situations, lots of people, having an leash around his neck, and navigating stairs. When he first arrived, he did not understand the leash and was very reactive, but after a few days he began to learn that it isn’t scary or harmful. He is learning how to go up and down the stairs but still needs to be carried most of the time. But loves having a person of his own. It takes a few days for Spot to warm up, but once he chooses his person, his confidence grows significantly. He also finds great comfort in other dogs and does best when he is not alone. In terms of house training, Spot does best when crated with another dog for comfort, as he experiences stress when crated alone. His first night alone he barked throughout the night, but when placed in a crate with another dog, he settled and slept calmly. He continues to adjust to routines in foster care. He is still learning where does appropriate to go potty. However, we are working with him and have full confidence that he will be potty trained soon. Some of his favorite things are other dogs, cozy sweaters, gentle reassurance, and toys that crinkle or squeak. He is just learning how to play and is beginning to show interest in chasing balls. He eats very quickly and would benefit from a slow-feeder bowl, likely due to past food insecurity, though he has shown no food aggression. If you’re looking for a young dog who thrives with canine companionship and needs a patient, understanding home to help him continue building confidence, he might be your perfect match! Spot could be the perfect addition to your family. Spot is currently being fostered in the Cincinnati, OH area. His adoption fee is $450.00. Story
Meet Bernice the Bernese mountain dog mix! She’s only about 50lbs and 1.5-2 years old. Shes fabulous with other dogs and good with kids. She can be shy and a little more fearful of men (we don’t know her past, so that’s probably fair!).  Bernice loves to zoomie, she’s generally gentle and walks well on a leash. Shes potty trained and has good house manners. All of our dogs are spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, microchipped and if over 6 months of age, heartworm tested and on heartworm preventative in their foster home. We require an approved application to meet any of our dogs. We do not have a shelter location and will not arrange a meeting without an approved application. We strive to make sure the bios provided for our dogs are complete and accurate; we do understand that mistakes happen, however, so if you absolutely cannot find the answer to your question in the dog's bio, you can contact us for more information. We require a home visit for each dog we adopt out, so we adopt within a 2 hour radius of Dayton, OH. If you are outside of this radius, we encourage you to contact your local rescue or shelter.   January 22, 2026, 8:18 pm

Muffin is the sweetest boy, and loves to be near his people!  He gets along great with kids and other dogs, and is doing fabulous with crate and potty training. He is estimated to be a large dog once he gets older, and he has the biggest sweetest heart to match his big paws! He is a typical puppy who likes to play and will need continued training as he grows, and he seems very motivated to learn!   January 21, 2026, 8:46 am

Story
Mater is a sweet guy who has very typical breed traits from his Great Pyrenees/Aussie Shepherd mix. Since a new home will be a big change for him and we want to be sure he settles and shows his family his best self we would recommend fostering to adopt for Mater. Mater came to his foster home after almost two years of being bounced around between various homes and boarding. He has also always used his size to get his way. In the past year we have worked with a professional trainer, established a routine and gotten Mater on medication to manage his anxiety (Fluoxetine). All of this has helped Mater be his best self. Mater also has some backup trazodone that he takes when foster mom knows his anxiety will be higher due to storms or fireworks. In his foster home Mater has learned that humans are in charge and he doesn't need to be the leader, sit and wait to be released for meals, how to relax and stay in place, that furniture is invitation only, and is working on re-crate training to learn crate is a safe space not punishment. Mater lives with two female dogs, a 45lb dominant female and a 75lb submissive female. He also does fine with my sister's 45lb male dog when they come to visit. Mater does sometimes resource guard toys. So, when my dominant female and Mater are together toys are put away. Other times he loves to play with toys and my submissive dog defers to his toy preferences so they play with toys well together. Mater does not like small dogs (under 15lbs) or cats. I also recently had a 27lb male puppy foster who caused Mater's anxiety to go through the roof. I think it was because this foster had no fear of Mater. He would literally run under Mater if Mater was in his way. Mater has done well when my sister has come over but does bark loudly at new people at first. He has done okay meeting people on a leash at adoption events. However, we would not recommend Mater be in a busy household with lots of visitors due to his anxiety Mater has made incredible strides in his foster home and is looking for his best fit family who will continue to support his progress. He is waiting for his perfect forever family to find him!November 18, 2025, 11:18 pm
