Story
Meet Spot! Spot is a 10.5-month-old 17 pound Bernedoodle who is learning what it means to feel safe, loved, and cared for. He got his name because he has a very distinguished spot on the side of his body that makes him extra special. His superpowers include his gentle nature, his ability to stay very still and cooperative during grooming and nail trims, and his strong bond with other dogs. During baths, he may try to get out of the water, but he does not yell or bark and does well when reassured and comforted. He is still unsure about new situations, lots of people, having an leash around his neck, and navigating stairs. When he first arrived, he did not understand the leash and was very reactive, but after a few days he began to learn that it isn’t scary or harmful. He is learning how to go up and down the stairs but still needs to be carried most of the time. But loves having a person of his own. It takes a few days for Spot to warm up, but once he chooses his person, his confidence grows significantly. He also finds great comfort in other dogs and does best when he is not alone. In terms of house training, Spot does best when crated with another dog for comfort, as he experiences stress when crated alone. His first night alone he barked throughout the night, but when placed in a crate with another dog, he settled and slept calmly. He continues to adjust to routines in foster care. He is still learning where does appropriate to go potty. However, we are working with him and have full confidence that he will be potty trained soon. Some of his favorite things are other dogs, cozy sweaters, gentle reassurance, and toys that crinkle or squeak. He is just learning how to play and is beginning to show interest in chasing balls. He eats very quickly and would benefit from a slow-feeder bowl, likely due to past food insecurity, though he has shown no food aggression. If you’re looking for a young dog who thrives with canine companionship and needs a patient, understanding home to help him continue building confidence, he might be your perfect match! Spot could be the perfect addition to your family. Spot is currently being fostered in the Cincinnati, OH area. His adoption fee is $450.00. To adopt this animal, please visit https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt All of our animals come spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, are microchipped, heartworm negative, current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention, dewormed, and treated for any ailments found upon veterinary examination. The adoption fee covers a portion of these services, and makes it possible for us to continue rescuing animals. For more information on the adoption fees and the adoption process, please complete our adoption application here: https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt - an application allows us to get to know your family better so we can assess whether the animal you are interested in is a good match for your home. An application does not obligate you to adopt. Please understand that due to the volume of applications some animals receive, we are unable to contact all applicants. If your application is considered a good fit for the animal you are interested in, or even a different pet, a volunteer will give you a call as soon as possible. We are a foster based rescue and do not have a shelter location where animals can be seen during the week. Please see our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/LouiesLegacy for our weekly adoption album if you are interested in meeting an animal in person. Not all animals attend every adoption event, please check our Facebook page for animal event times and locations before you make a trip to meet a specific animal.

Story
Mackinaw Have you ever watched the TV show, “The Incredible Dr. Pol”? Well, my foster mom has been binge watching the show and trying to figure out a name for me and since the show is based in Michigan, she came up with my name, which is Mackinaw. It means ‘large turtle’ in the Ojibwa language, one of the Indian tribes in the area. I don’t think I look like a large turtle but whatever…. I am probably a Bernese Mountain Dog mix of some sort, and I am very loveable and sweet. I was found in the middle of the road and my foster mom was concerned that I was thrown from a car because I was not using my left rear leg as well as I was using the right one. But after some crate rest for a week and a visit to the vet to get an exam and some x-rays done, I am happy to say that nothing is broken and I am using my legs like I am supposed to now. Very good news! I will probably be a large medium or a small large size, if that makes sense. About 50-60 pounds or so. But since my breed is based on my handsomely good looks, it is hard to tell how big I will be when I grow up. And my breed is just a guess anyhow, only a DNA test will tell for sure, but I am 100% purebred lover boy. I was born about the third of November of 2025 and will be available for my new forever home after I get fixed in January 2026. Adoption fee in Texas is $250. Out of State adoption fee is $550 with transport and fuel surcharge.

Story
Marty is a striking brindle and white puppy with vivid white feet. He was born December 21. 2023. Marty and his siblings came to HART from a shelter in Kentucky. The folks dropping them off said that the mother is part Newfoundland, however, they do not have long hair like Newfoundland. They are going to be large dogs, Marty weighs 25 pounds at 13 weeks old and has large feet. It is very difficult to estimate adult weight, but could be 80 pounds. They are all in excellent health. Marty is a confident, fun loving pup. He likes children, adults, and other dogs. He enjoys playing tug of war and keep away as well as wrestling with his siblings. He has been exposed to 5 adult larger dogs during play dates 5 days a week and does well. He warms up to other dogs fast and likes to play with them. Marty likes to have his belly rubbed, and will randomly lays down with his legs sticking up for a quick rub. He also loves to lay on you lap while you watch TV, and he hugs, or presses his snout against your cheek or neck instead of licking you. He is an affectionate pup. He rides well in the car. Walks on a lead, but needs additional training. Marty is crate trained, and house training is going great, He is completely reliable when he has access to outside ( Foster has a dogging door). I have left him for 2-3 hours in the gated kitchen without accidents. The cold weather didn’t deter him from going outside. He loved the snow and was ok with med-light rain, but he didn’t appreciate the windy heavy rain. Marty is a laid back pup, his activity level is about average, plays for an hour or 2 and then rest/sleeps and hour or 2 as most puppies. He sleeps through the night in his crate (9:30 to 6:00) without protest, if he hears stirring near 6 he’ll start making noise to go out. He enjoys chew toys, tug-of-war, chewing on sticks, and playing with other dogs. He is highly food motivated, so training should be easy. Marty would do best with a fenced yard, as he loves to wonder around stiffing and playing in the flower beds or anything he can find. If you think Marty could be a good fit, submit an application and the foster will bring him to your house for a visit. All HART dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on all vaccines, including bordatella and rabies. They are heartworm tested and on preventative for heartworm, fleas, and ticks. If you are interested in any of our pets, you must complete an online dog adoption application at www.rescueAhart.org . The application will put you in touch with this wonderful dog's foster family so you can schedule a meeting. Thanks! www.rescueAhart.org
