I know she looks like a sheep, but she is in fact a very sweet 4-year-old dog. Lambchop may be timid, but her foster owners have never seen a puppy mill rescue who was also so happy! This little 20-pound lady is either asleep or wagging her tail and when her foster dad comes home from work her tail stops wagging and starts spinning. She is shyly excited to say hi to everyone she meets. While she won’t always accept pets right away from new people, she will wiggle her happy tail, stomp happy feet, and look expectantly at them, eventually accepting scratches. Lambchop is a Bichon Frise, likely mixed with a Poodle, which accounts for her long legs attached to the typical Bichon body, she has tight white curls, floppy ears and curious dark eyes, and of course, her delightfully wagging curled white tail. She is a dog that is low shed and will need regular brushing at home and professional grooming on a regular schedule. Her fur grows slowly so it is nicely manageable, but her forever family must dedicate themselves to her brushing and tidying of her coat to keep it mat and tangle free. This sweet girl came to her foster owners from a puppy mill where she must have had a couple litters of puppies. She is now spayed and healed very well, however, her time in the puppy mill without proper socialization is what contributed to her shyness. She will need a new family willing to be patient and work with her to gain her confidence and trust in people. She has already come a long way in the weeks she’s been with her foster family and will continue to need diligence in her new home. Lambchop loves other dogs and has warmed up so nicely and adorably with her large foster brother. She follows him everywhere he goes, wrestles with him as much as he is willing to and snuggles up to him everywhere he sleeps. Lambchop would do very well in a house with another dog for her to befriend, however, this is not a requirement and would settle in nicely as the only dog as well. Lambchop is not fostered with cats but has shown no prey drive and we feel she would be fine with a dog savvy cat. Lambchop is crate trained for overnight, for meals, and while her foster owners are at work with the command “crate”. Recently, Lambchop has started to settle quickly at night without barking, however, this did take a few weeks to get used to. Also, when Lambchop is excited or overwhelmed she will bark as well. She is settling and barking in the crate much less, however, Lambchop wouldn’t do well in an apartment or other attached housing setting or home where barking would be a problem. Lambchop travels well in the car. She is still getting used to car rides and trembles a bit, but is quiet and doesn’t get car sick. She’s up to date on her vaccinations and is a healthy girl fully recovered from her spay. As for her teeth, Lambchop has some tartar build up which will require a dental cleaning with the vet within a year, but this is to be expected with a mature small breed dog, and Bichons and Poodles in general are known for needing dentals. Teeth brushing and having her chew on chew toys will benefit her and delay her dental some. Anyone interested in Lambchop needs to be prepared for a dentistry at least once, if not a couple times in her life as she ages. Lambchop loves a walk with lot of things to smell, her leash walking is coming along quite well and while she doesn’t pull, she is still figuring out how to not walk in circles around her foster owners. She hasn’t met many small children as her foster owners are allowing her to have her space as she is timid. She has shown no signs of aggression and the older kids she’s met she’s been sweet with. A home with teen children who know how to be gentle and patient would be the well suited for her. An adult only home that is quiet and calm would be ideal for her. Lambchop is on her way to being fully house-trained, will be accident free if she goes out for bathroom breaks often and especially after coming out of the crate, eating meals or waking up from a nap. Lambchop is a breed without a huge amount of energy so doesn’t need lengthy walks or intensive energy burning activity. But she does love to explore a fenced in yard, smelling the grass, and chasing her foster brother. She would do well in a home with a family happy to let her out in the yard, take her on walks and give her cuddles and pets once home.
