Percy #2 | 10-month-old Black Mouth Cur mix | Your future snuggle buddy in training Percy is a 10-month-old Black Mouth Cur mix, currently around 45 pounds and expected to reach 60–70 pounds. He’s a sweet, playful pup who has made great progress since arriving in his foster home. He’s still learning about the world, but once he trusts you, he turns into the ultimate velcro dog. Expect lots of cuddles, a head resting on your lap, and a furry shadow who would very much like to share your bed! The world can be a pretty scary place for this sweet boy. New people, loud noises, and unfamiliar situations make him nervous, and it breaks our hearts because we don’t know what he may have experienced in his short life to make him so afraid. He needs patient, kind people who will give him time to feel safe and let him come around at his own pace. Once he feels comfortable, his sweet, affectionate personality really shines. Percy does wonderfully with his foster family’s cat and loves to play with him! He also respects the older resident dog, who has helped teach him good doggy manners. He’d love a friendly, playful canine buddy of his own to romp with. Percy also spent a week with a family with two children, ages 9 and 11, and did great! He had no accidents during his stay, enjoyed the fenced yard, and even warmed up enough to let the daughter pet him by the end of the week. He’d do best with gentle kids who give him the time and space to approach them on his own. Percy is still very much a puppy and is working on housetraining, manners, and learning what is and isn’t a chew toy. He is crate trained and can stay alone for a few hours, although he may fuss when left and needs continued practice building independence. He’ll thrive with a patient adopter who can provide structure, supervision, and positive training. Percy would love a home with a fenced yard and a friendly canine buddy. An adopter with experience helping shy dogs—or a willingness to work with a qualified trainer—would be ideal. Percy may need a little time to show you his heart, but once you're his person, you'll have a devoted, affectionate companion who will reward your patience with a whole lot of love. If you have a little extra room in your heart for a sweet boy who just needs help learning that the world isn't so scary, Percy could be your perfect match! Buck was almost another forgotten shelter dog. I first saw his picture at a very high-kill shelter that euthanizes dozens of dogs regularly. He was severely underweight, scared, and looked like he had nearly starved to death. His surrender notes said his owners dumped him after he killed a chicken. Considering the condition he was in, it is obvious that he acted out of desperation and hunger. I kept telling myself I could not take in another brown Heinz 57 dog. But I could not stop thinking about him. Today, Buck is healthy, safe, and finally able to just be a dog again. Buck is about 2 years old and around 40 pounds with a people-focused, affectionate personality. He absolutely loves attention and wants to be near his person whenever possible. Despite everything he went through, he has remained incredibly social and loving with humans. He also does very well with other dogs overall. He can occasionally act a little dominant with other males, but nothing concerning or over the top. He settles well into group dynamics and enjoys being around other dogs. Buck has a very balanced energy level. He enjoys hanging out, exploring, getting attention, and simply being included in daily life. Now that he no longer has to worry about survival, his personality continues to open up more and more. Dogs like Buck are everywhere in overcrowded shelters right now. Good dogs. Normal dogs. Dogs that simply ran out of time, resources, or human compassion. Buck was lucky enough to make it out.
