Story
Joe is a stunning 8 year old black mouth cur mix that is ready to find his forever family❤️ Sweet Joe has a strong desire to be near his people, always. He’s a cuddle bug and loves being where his family is! He is good at being a companion dog, he plays well with puppies & is a protector of his people! He will bark when strangers come to the door but once he knows they’re cool, he will be their new best friend🐾 This handsome boy can be an adventure pup or a couch potato. He loves to go for hikes and runs, but he is also happy cuddling up on a couch with his humans! He likes other dogs, but prefers pup friends with laid-back personalities so he can be the “big dog in the house,” or he would be okay as an only dog! 🐶 Joe has a strong case of FOMO, so he always wants to know what you are doing and where you are going. He likes to follow his people around the house and get into the things they are getting into. He really just wants to be near his humans & doing whatever they’re doing.❤️ Joe needs an adult-only household, or one with older children. Poor buddy is scared of little kids and deserves a home where he doesn’t have to be separated from little ones, and can roam his home as he pleases. He is kennel trained, but doesn’t need to be kept in one because he isn’t destructive & he is house trained! Joe is a good boy that deserves a soft place to land after his family dynamic has changed. If you have an older, established household, please consider adding Joe to your family!🥰 If interested in adopting one of our available pets, please fill out an application at http://www.dixiegirldogrescue.org/adopt-form PLEASE MAKE NOTE- OUR DOGS ARE FOSTERED IN ALABAMA (UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED), OUR DOGS TRANSPORT TO THEIR NEW FAMILIES IN RHODE ISLAND AFTER THEY HAVE BEEN ADOPTED. Our rescue pets are fostered in Southern foster homes (unless otherwise stated) and are posted for adoption once they are completely vetted and ready to travel. Our pets are adoptable in Alabama and New England States. Our adoption fee includes transport fee, spay/neuter, current vaccinations, deworming, heart worm test for animals over 7 months old, all necessary vetting and an interstate health certificate.     adoption donation : $599 weight 60 lbs  Age 2 years           Penny Parsnip is the sweetest! She loves everyone and is a gentle girl, she loves to play with other dogs, but generally, she is quiet and mellow and just an easy pup.          Penny was found with her mother and litter of young puppies,  her half siblings, in a  pasture in northern Mississippi, in an area known for dumping dogs.. They were all taken into the rescue, given vaccines and were spayed and neutered. Penny’s little brothers and sisters were all adopted, now it’s this sweet girls’s turn!       Penny is doing very well at Wags, she gets along with all the dogs, she’s learning to walk on a leash and is house trained although like any rescue  may need a refresher when she just adjusts to a new home.      Penny is a gentle with children and fine with all animals. She is snuggly and affectionate with her foster mom and likes to follow her around This good girl is ready for a loving family of her own    Wags is a struggling 501(c) 3 where one woman in rural Mississippi takes care of about 150 homeless and stray dogs.  Adoption donations are the only source of funding for the rescue. Adoption fee includes the transport from Mississippi, vaccines, microchip and spay and neuter at one of the clinics we use. For more information on adopting Penny or any of our Wags dogs please email mariaeftimiades@yahoo.com    February 15, 2025, 2:15 pm

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. To apply to adopt this dog now, complete our adoption application   HERE To see our upcoming events where you can meet some of our dogs, please see   HERE   Age: 1 year (as of 1/11/25) Weight: 40 pounds (as of 1/20/25) Location: RI *Dasha’s adoption donation is generously sponsored in honor of Victoria, a volunteer in Arkansas where Dasha came from originally* Dasha is available for adoption to Massachusetts residents, as well as those in the other New England states. This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped. Dasha is a sweet and affectionate girl who loves spending time with people. She is the ultimate cuddle bug!    She likes meeting other dogs, both big and small. She lived with a cat in her Southern foster home and currently doesn't live with cats but wants to chase ones she sees on walks. She would love to have another playful canine sibling or lots of opportunities for play with other dogs.  She is known as the Queen of the Dog Park! She can get excited on leash and will bark and try to chase wildlife. She struggles with moving objects such as bikes, scooters, runners while she is on leash, and she is working hard with our training team to feel more comfortable in those situations.  Dasha would love a fenced yard where she can play and run, but this girl has some hops so a 6 foot fence is preferred!  She is housetrained and sleeps in her crate at night but really doesn't love her crate during the day.  She would do best in a home where people are home more than not.  She has the perfect mix of play energy and snuggle time. She would be happy to crash on the couch after a trip to the dog park or a good walk.  We strongly encourage basic obedience training for all our dogs, as it not only helps your dog blossom into a well-balanced canine citizen with good manners, but it also helps to form a lasting bond between your dog and the humans in your family.  Dasha is an active and happy girl who just wants a loving forever home. Can you make her dream come true? Fill out an application today and let her know that you'd love to have her join your family! Medical Note:  This dog is being treated/has been treated for demodectic mange, a non-contagious skin condition. The dog has responded well to this treatment and is ready for adoption, though may still have some bald patches and/or thin fur in places.  Please note that demodex can flare up in any dog in times of stress (eg, transport, transition to a new home, change in food, etc). As such, the adopter is advised to discuss this condition and best next steps with their veterinarian. SOS recommends that dogs with a history of demodectic mange be kept on regular NexGard or Bravecto for flea/tick prevention for at least 3 months after adoption for adults or until 18 months of age for puppies.  Please see here for more information on demodectic mange and talk with your Adoption Counselor about this condition.  Please check with your vet if you have any questions or concerns about this medical history. To apply for this dog, fill out an adoption application on our website:  Adoption Application - SOS Animal Rescue League in Rhode Island (sosarl.org)   **Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. To apply to adopt this dog now, complete our adoption application   HERE To see our upcoming events where you can meet some of our dogs, please see   HERE Age: Approx 7 months (as of 1/6/25) Weight: 53 pounds (as of 1/6/25) This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped.   Meet Reba! This little girl is just beautiful, both inside and out. We know you’ll fall for her gentle eyes, floppy ears and those white-tipped paws. While this pretty puppy has so much love to give, she also has much to learn! Reba is very playful and interacts well with the other dogs in her foster home. We’re not sure how she interacts with cats, small animals or children just yet. She does well in the car, loves walks, hiking and playing fetch. We think she’ll grow up to become a great companion for your outdoor adventures! Reba can be a bit shy when meeting new adults or in new environments, but this is pretty typical for a rescue pup. With the help of a patient and loving family, she’ll quickly gain confidence and skills she needs to become the perfect dog! Puppies like Reba are a lot of work and require a strong commitment to teaching them obedience, socializing with other dogs and people, playing with them and loving them to pieces. She’s had a head start on crate training, but will need lots more house training and obedience training. It takes a lot of time, energy and patience to bring up a puppy and it’s totally worth it! We strongly encourage basic obedience training for all our dogs, as it not only helps your dog blossom into a well-balanced canine citizen with good manners, but it also helps to form a lasting bond between your dog and the humans in your family. Reba says, “I’m a Survivor!” Will you give her the loving home she's waiting for? Fill out an application today and let her know that you'd love to have her join your family! Story
Meet Barnaby. Everyone on our team is OBSESSED with this velvet eared hunk. He is a VERY long term resident looking for a foster or forever home for the Holidays. He is looking for an adult only home without other animals. Barnaby is a handsome, 2 year old, male, Bloodhound mixed breed. He requires a dog savvy family with experience with his breed. Sadly, he spent his 2nd birthday in a cage and our hearts are breaking for him the longer he waits to be adopted. He’s a very good boy that just needs to find the right people for him. He is up to date on vaccinations and has been neutered. Please consider opening your home to this very deserving dog. You won't regret it!  Photo 2: Traer Scott Photography *PLEASE NOTE: DUE TO STRINGENT OUT OF STATE HEALTH CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENTS WE ARE NOW ONLY ADOPTING TO RHODE ISLAND RESIDENTS*. While we understand that this may be an inconvenience, it is necessary to help reduce the number of devastated dogs being returned. We apologize for the inconvenience. HOW TO GO ABOUT ADOPTING: 1.
