Age: 4 yearsWeight: 28 kgA little bit about Romeo: - kids unknown - has lived with cats previously, requires slow and proper introductions - small animals unknown - has lived with other dogs previously, recommend having another dog in home as dog was running away to play with dogs, potential for select other dog following successful dog-to-dogMeet Romeo, your new best friend! This sweet boy will surely bring lots of fun and excitement to your home, as he`s quite an active fellow with a wonderful snuggly side! Having come from a rough start to life, Romeo can be nervous of shouting and loud noises. A calm home with an energetic family would ideal for him, offering a peaceful space with plenty of opportunities work his big brain! The reason why Romeo ultimately came to the shelter was that he was afraid of the horses in his previous home and would often escape the property to go play with the neighbours` dogs! With his penchant for trying to be near other dogs, it would be best if there was another dog-savvy dog in the home to keep Romeo company. But he has also successfully lived with cats before as well, so with proper introductions, may peacefully co-exist with felines too!But that`s all for now from the sweet, playful Romeo. If you want to learn more about him, schedule an appointment or stop by to say hi!

Location: Irvine, AB (Medicine Hat area) // Energy Level: Medium // Size: 35lbs // Breed: Border Collie Mix // Dogs: Yes please! // Cats: Yes // Kids: Older dog savvy kids only please // Meet Jefferey — the little miracle with the gentle soul. Once upon a time, a tiny puppy named Jefferey was found all alone in a ditch, too weak to move and unable to see the world around him. But with love, care, and a whole lot of determination, Jefferey slowly found his way back — his legs got strong, his eyes brightened, and his spirit came alive. Today, he’s a happy, healthy boy who reminds everyone that even the smallest spark can grow into something amazing. ✨ Jefferey is a Border Collie mix, but don’t let that breed fool you — he’s got the zen soul of a golden retriever. He loves to romp around the yard with his dog friends and chase toys for a bit, but he’s just as happy to curl up and relax next to you. His energy level is gentle, his manners are lovely, and his “baby shark” air-chomps will make you laugh every time. 🦈💨 He’s crate trained, house trained (with a little help from routine reminders!), and travels like a pro in the car. Jefferey can be shy at first, especially with new people or quick movements, but he’s slowly learning that the world is full of kindness. He does best when given space, patience, and reassurance — and he truly shines when he has another friendly dog to help him feel safe and show him the ropes. Jefferey gets along beautifully with dogs and cats, and would do best in a calm home with older, dog-savvy kids (the little ones can be a bit scary for him). He may also have a touch of poor night vision, so he appreciates soft lighting and a cozy bedtime routine. 💛 Jefferey’s dream home: gentle voices, patient hearts, and maybe a confident dog buddy to guide him. In return, he’ll bring endless sweetness, quiet love, and a story of resilience you’ll never forget. Could you be the one to give this brave little survivor his happily ever after? If you would like to adopt Jeffery, please complete an application on our website: https://www.ruffstartanimalrescue.com/dog-application-form

Story
Currently in a toronto foster home I might be a mix, but I’ve got the best of both worlds — the smarts of a Border Collie and the focus of a Jindo. I’m clever, full of energy, and once I love you, I love you with all my heart. I was born in an old abandoned house, far from people and care. But when I was just 3 months old, kind humans rescued me and brought me to a warm, safe foster home. That’s where I spent the first 2 years of my life, learning what it means to be loved and to live indoors. Due to some changes in my foster family’s life, I had to move to a training center. At first, everything was unfamiliar and a little scary… but I surprised everyone by adjusting quickly! Now I get along great with the trainers, and I love learning new things. I’m really good at understanding people — not just their words, but their feelings too. When I meet someone new, I might hesitate for a moment. But give me a little time and kindness, and you’ll see the real me — sweet, affectionate, and even a little silly. I also get along well with other dogs and know how to play nicely without causing trouble. I love walks and being outdoors, and I’m happiest when I can explore the world with someone I trust. After some fun and exercise, I’m more than happy to relax quietly at home. I’ve got a calm, sensitive side too. I’ve spent most of my life around women, so I might be a bit shy around men at first. But please don’t worry — with patience and gentle care, I’ll come closer, lean in, and show you how much love I have to give. What I’m really looking for is someone who’s ready to build a bond — who’ll walk with me, talk with me, and understand that trust takes time but grows deep. If that sounds like you, I think we could be a perfect match. I’m ready to give my heart. Are you ready to be my forever family? 💛 Love, Dior

Story
Oreo is a 3-year-old male Border Collie/Jindo mix who was rescued from a shelter just before he was scheduled for euthanasia. Sadly, and for unknown reasons, before finding himself abandoned and alone at the shelter, his teeth had been deliberately ground down. Amazingly and despite this, he remains a lively, energetic, and otherwise healthy dog who is remarkably intelligent, craves human interaction, and is very loyal to his guardian. Oreo has the exceptional intelligence typical of Border Collies, fully understanding various commands such as "sit," "wait," and "house." He is also deeply loyal to his guardian and has a strong capacity for forming deep bonds typical of the Jindo breed. He is truly a remarkable dog who has the capacity to grow into an even more amazing companion through continued obedience training and by establishing a trusting relationship with his guardian. Oreo is incredibly affectionate and loves people. He is also very social and gets along well with other dogs. However, he has a habit of jumping when excited, which requires caution when a person is interacting with him in a low position. With consistent training, this behavior can be corrected. Being highly energetic, Oreo possesses excellent jumping ability. At the training center, he has been known to leap over fences—not out of a desire to escape, but due to his curiosity and strong attachment to his guardian. In fact, he has demonstrated behavior where he jumps over a fence when he hears his guardian's voice outside, only to return shortly after. For this reason, families with yards should ensure proper supervision, and a high-fenced environment may be more suitable. The Ideal Family for Oreo is: ✔️ Someone who understands the high intelligence and energy levels of Border Collies, the exceptional loyalty of Jindos, and can provide sufficient mental and physical stimulation ✔️ Someone with experience in training or handling large dogs ✔️ Someone who values bonding with their dog and is ready to build a deep connection ✔️ Someone who can provide ample space for Oreo to move and exercise freely Despite his heartbreaking past, Oreo still loves people and finds his greatest happiness in being with his guardian. With so much intelligence and energy, he has limitless potential to become the perfect lifelong companion if he meets the right family, one that understands him and is ready to provide him with love, care, and proper training. Oreo is waiting for his new family! ❤️

Story
Hi, I’m Steveo!Approximate age: 3 yearBreed: MixedEnergy Level: Medium high Good with Kids: I’m still young and high energy so older kids would be bestGood with Dogs: Need proper introduction. Prefer females.Good with Cats: No. Not really a fan. Love my rabbit buddy thoughHey im Steveo! I`m a sweet, playful, smart, and cuddly guy. I love people, they`re my favorite! I also love car rides, they are the best! And toys, oh, how I love toys! They keep me entertained for hours. But the crate? Nah. I mean, I can go in if necessary but it`s not my thing. I prefer to be out and about, exploring and playing. I`m a good boy sleeping on my bed. I do love to run and play so would do best in a fenced yard.I`m also smart, you know. I can learn new tricks quickly, and I`m always eager to please. Other dogs? I have been okay with females but not a fan of the other boys. Cats? Hard to say. I met one at the vet who I wanted to chase but I am good friends with the rabbit in my home. Really, I`m all about the people. I`m looking for a family who will love me as much as I will love them. I promise to be the best friend you`ve ever had. Adopt me, and let`s start our adventure together! If you would like to meet me and give me a chance . Please fill out the adoption application!
