Athena is such a sweetheart to all people and animals. You can see the love in her human-like eyes and is such a goofball. She is older, doesn’t really play with toys but will carry around stuffies, and does not really walk well on a leash so we haven’t taken her out much. She is very obedient and we have done personal training. She can hold her pee for a long time, we accidentally left her inside for 12 hours as we went out of town and our dog sitter couldn’t get in, and she didn’t even leave a drop inside. Letting her go has not been an easy decision and we really want her to go to a loving home. The reason we need to rehome her is because she does not like my 7 month old. I’m not sure if she is just being protective over mom, but she has darted at him and growled in his face and over him multiple times now and no amount of training is helping. She has always done good with smaller children, so we aren’t sure what this is about, but do not feel safe keeping her in the house anymore

Saved from being euthanized at a rural pound, for having demodectic mange, Libby is 100% healthy and seeking her Furever home. We have no idea what breed she is, other than striking.. Libby is about 2 yrs old 65lbs, spayed, chipped and all vaccines are current, she is housebroken. Libby would love to have a playmate, she is dog, cat and kid friendly. An active family to hike and walk would be a dream come true for her. She does require a secure fenced yard, as she is an explorer. Libby can clear a 4' fence and can climb a 6' chain link. This Pink Lady has raised her 6 little apples and now she is ready to take on the world! Pink Lady's previous owner said she was a mini Aussie mix, but a breed test on one of her puppies says she is a border collie. Either way she is full of that loving and playful personality that makes her so unique. She's had a rough start, being left in a hot car for 4 days with nothing but her and her newborn babies. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets!
