This lovely Border Collie mix arrived at the shelter as a stray, and sadly, no one came forward to claim her. Now, she’s looking for a fresh start with a family who will help her grow into the confident, happy dog she’s meant to be. Piper is a sweetheart at heart, but she can be a little unsure of herself in new situations. She’s still learning about the world, and she’ll need a patient, encouraging family who understands that confidence takes time to build. The good news? This clever girl already knows how to sit, and she’s motivated by food, making treats and positive reinforcement excellent tools for helping her learn! As a Border Collie mix, Piper has brains to spare and plenty of energy to match. She’ll thrive with a family who enjoys teaching new skills, working on training, and finding fun ways to keep both her mind and body busy. Think walks, games, enrichment activities, and learning new tricks! A predictable routine, clear structure, and consistent, reward-based training will help her feel secure while giving her the guidance she needs to succeed. Piper was a little timid when introduced to an overly enthusiastic dog at the shelter, so she may appreciate a calmer canine companion who respects her space and lets friendships develop at her pace. Any dog introductions should be thoughtful and gradual, allowing Piper the time she needs to feel comfortable. Rhonda is a wonderful girl who brought up her two female pups and was found wandering on a back concession in Norfolk County. Once in care of SimcoeDHumane, we started with tests and vaccines. Sure enough, she was found to have heartworm with microfilaria present (Baby Heartworm) and so her healing journey begins!We are looking for a LONG-term foster home or a foster2adopt home that can follow through with her treatment. Chase was seized from his previous home due to abuse. Chase does not have the typical border collie tail. It was broken and was amputated. He is very sweet, and will seek out affection when he is comfortable. When being walked on a leash, he stays close to handler. All fully fenced in yard since he would be a flight risk till he feels safe with his new home. Since his past is unknown a adult only home would be recommended.This special boy deserves a loving home. Come and visit with him.

George is a two-year-old male, roughly 45 pounds. He is a cross of some kind, perhaps between a border collie and some sort of hound? He is dignified, polite, intelligent, good-natured, loves to run and play and have his belly rubbed: he shows affection quietly, by coming and placing his head against you. He is neutered, microchipped and house-trained. He is very good with people, and generally with other dogs, at least off-leash. He can panic, however, on-leash, if he gets in close quarters with another dog. We think he must have broken his left hind foot at some point in the past: it has healed, and he can run very fast on it, but occasionally favours it, and has begun to develop arthritis. He currently lives with 2 dogs listed on our site: Pipo and Karti. George and Pipo are especially good together.  George's ideal home would be one with people who are calm and are experienced with large dogs. One where he's allowed on the couch and bed. His foster home is in  midtown Toronto.  Due to time constraints, we cannot respond to every email asking for more information on a dog. Finn is located in Milton. Meet Finn, a bright, curious 60 pound Collie/Labrador mix who turns 8 years old this November.  He is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on his vetting.  He’s looking for someone who enjoys sharing their attention, teaching a dog new things, and making everyday outings interesting. Finn loves games and training. He’s smart and enjoys a challenge, although he can lose interest when things become too repetitive. Mixing up his games, practising different skills, and exploring new walking routes help keep him engaged. His ideal person would enjoy that interaction and be excited to include him in their day. Finn likes being close to his people and often follows along with whatever you’re doing. He isn’t a big snuggler, but he shows affection through licking. He also explores the world with his nose and mouth: chewing sticks, squishing tennis balls, and enthusiastically dismantling toys are favourite activities. He’ll need suitable chew toys and supervision with things he could chew apart. At home, Finn barks very little and hasn’t been destructive of household belongings. He will bark when people visit but takes his cues from his owner and warms up quickly to visitors.  He has not lived with cats or other dogs. Cats are not recommended but he does have the potential to live with another dog.   His ideal home would be someone who works from home at least part of the time or is home more often than not to meet his mental and physical needs.  October 23, 2026, 7:44 pm
