Botas was found living on a construction site near Merida. One of the architects who worked there was feeding him along with two other dogs, however their safety was at risk with all of the big machinery operating around them, so the architect brought them to the shelter. Botas is a survivor and a very kind soul. Botas is a very people-oriented dog that is very social and comfortable with human interaction. He readily approaches people, enjoys contact, is easy to touch and handle, and walks very well on leash. Botas is also social with other dogs and has extensive experience living in a group environment. However, compatibility with individual dogs should be considered. If another dog growls at him or initiates a tense interaction, Botas may respond rather than disengage. Botas does not show food aggression toward people. Given his history of living in a group environment where dogs experienced competition around food, structured and separate feeding is recommended during his transition. He is an active dog and will need regular physical activity, walks, enrichment, and appropriate social opportunities. A yard is not necessary, and apartment living could be suitable as long as his activity and needs are consistently met. Botas is a sweet boy that is searching for a calm, stable environment with people that will love him and give him all the attention and affection that he deserves. He loves to be active and explore, but also loves a good nap in the sunshine, a cuddle on the couch and a scratch behind his ears. He is loyal and affectionate with his people and loves attention. I arrived at a crowded city pound severely injured and, although I received some initial treatment, the shelter’s limited resources meant I wasn’t able to receive all the care I needed. I was eventually adopted, but sadly, my new beginning didn’t last. About a week later, I was shaved and abandoned back at the city pound once again. By then, my health was deteriorating, and there was concern that my injuries could permanently affect the use of my back legs. Thankfully, rescuers heard about my situation and stepped in before it was too late. Welcome Dog Korea brought me to safety, and I’m now receiving the medical care, love, and attention I needed all along. After such a difficult start to life, I finally have the chance to heal and look forward to a much brighter future. MY HEALTH All vaccinations up-to-date Healthy with no known health issues Underwent joint fusion surgery on the left hind leg & part of my right hind leg had to be amputated. I don’t let this stop me from living my life! I run around and have no issues living my life to the fullest MY PERSONALITY I’m an adorable, friendly girl who loves both people and dogs! Despite everything I’ve been through, I’m still incredibly trusting and haven’t let my past or my hind legs stop me from enjoying life to the fullest. I can be a little more comfortable with women than men at first, but it doesn’t take me long to warm up and show my sweet, affectionate personality. I also have a great appetite and am very food-motivated, which makes me eager to learn and excited to work for tasty treats! MY SOCIAL SKILLS · With People: I’m friendly with people and enjoy greeting new friends and receiving plenty of pets and affection! I can be a teeny bit shy at first, and as I’m going through my adolescent phase, I may be a little more cautious around men when we first meet. The good news is that I warm up very quickly! Give me some tasty treats and a little time, and within an hour or two, I’ll usually start showing you my sweet and affectionate side. · With Dogs: I’m friendly with my dog friends and love having fun and playing together! I generally get along best with dogs around my size or smaller. Very high-energy dogs can be a little overwhelming for me and I may need some time to feel comfortable around them. Due to my hind legs, I can also get pushed around more easily during rough or energetic play, so calmer and respectful playmates are the best match for me. I’m a peacekeeper at heart and prefer to avoid conflict whenever possible. · With Cats: My reaction to cats is unknown. During walks I look at them with curiosity but then lose my interest and continue my way. ENERGY LEVEL & ACTIVITY I have a moderate energy level. I enjoy spending time outdoors, exploring, and having fun, but once I’ve had my activity and excitement, I’m more than happy to come inside and relax comfortably indoors. TRAINING & HABITS I walk nicely on leash and follow my handler’s lead well. I’ve had lots of opportunities to practice my walking skills while growing up at the care facility, so I’ve become a great little walking companion! I also have good manners around food and don’t guard my meals or treats from either people or other dogs. I may bark when I’m looking for attention, but I know how to settle down and rest calmly in my kennel. For potty habits, I currently go both indoors using pee pads and outdoors. I also rely quite a bit on my dog friends for emotional comfort and reassurance. Scout is a wonderful boy whose early life was filled with adventures, activity and everything a Border Collie could hope for. Unfortunately, when his owner could no longer keep him, he left Scout in the care of elderly family members who do not have the time, experience or ability to meet the needs of such an intelligent and active breed. As a result, Scout has spent much of his recent life tied outside, without the physical exercise, mental stimulation and companionship he truly needs. Scout is now looking for someone who will make him a part of their life again and take him along for the ride. He is a typical Border Collie - smart, athletic, curious and happiest when he has something to do and somewhere to go. He absolutely loves swimming and boat rides, enjoys being around horses, has excellent recall and is wonderful on leash. He shows no reaction to other dogs or animals, including farm animals such as ducks and geese. He gets along well with other dogs, but because he is somewhat aloof by nature, he certainly doesn't need another dog in his new home. In fact, Scout would probably love being the centre of his person's world and their adventure buddy. Inside the home, Scout is exceptionally well behaved. He is house trained, non-destructive when left alone and travels beautifully in the car. He even enjoys going into his crate for a nap, although he would prefer that the door remain open. Scout is also a big fan of belly rubs and absolutely soaks up attention from anyone willing to give him some. He can be cautious around men, because of his experience with a male family member he does not trust, so a patient adopter who understands that trust is earned is important. Scout would thrive with an active person or family who wants a canine companion for walks, hikes, swimming, adventures and simply being together. He would be best suited to a home with older children, given his herding-breed nature. He has not been tested with cats, so that remains unknown. It's Scout's turn to experience the world again! Meet Jasper - a handsome, sweet-natured boy with soft white fur and adorable black markings! Jasper is a gentle soul who seems to have been let down by people in the past. He is still learning to trust and building his confidence, but in just a few days of foster care, he has already made AMAZING progress! Jasper is happiest when he is with his people or has a friendly, compatible dog nearby. Once he feels safe, he settles beautifully and loves nothing more than lying beside you while you watch TV, relax, or work on the computer. He stays close to his person and truly seems to take comfort from simply knowing someone he trusts is nearby. There is so much to love about this sweet boy. He is sweet, gentle, affectionate, well behaved and eager to please. He already knows how to sit and absolutely loves treats - sometimes he sits politely, and sometimes those little legs practically jump for joy! He loves being close to his people, is comfortable and well behaved indoors, and is completely non-destructive. He does well going outside to potty and comes right back to the door. He gets along well with a compatible canine friend and happily ignores cats. He also rides calmly and quietly in the car, although he may experience some motion sickness. Jasper can be nervous around loud or unfamiliar noises and is somewhat fearful of being outside, so he will need a patient family who understands that confidence doesn't happen overnight. Ava was rescued in the south of M?rida from a family who abused and killed animals for fun. When she was brought to the shelter, she was only 7 months old, covered in fleas and had no hair due to a really bad case of mange. The staff couldn't tell what colour she was at first but after she received treatment and started recovering her beautiful coat started to grow back. As she started to recover, she started to gain confidence and her true personality flourished. Ava is an absolute doll, and although a bit shy at first, she warms up to new people quickly. She is so happy and curious about the world, and her tail rarely stops wagging. She adores her people, running over to greet the people she loves and soaking in all the attention she can get. She gets along well with other dogs and tends to stay away from drama. Ava's behaviour is strongly influenced by how familiar and secure she feels in her environment. When she first arrived at her current location, she was shy, particularly with unfamiliar people. She tended to avoid being approached or handled unless she had already developed considerable trust. As she adapted to the environment and became familiar with her caregivers, a very different side of her personality emerged. She is now highly affectionate and actively seeks human interaction. She follows familiar caregivers, approaches them for attention, stands on her hind legs to ask for contact, and will lean into them almost as if she is giving a hug. This initial adjustment period is important to consider when Ava travels. After a long journey, arrival in a new country, and another major environmental change, she may initially present more like the shy and cautious dog observed when she first arrived in her current setting. Her current behavior, however, shows what can be expected as she begins to feel safe and develops trust. Ava is social with other dogs. When she was first introduced to unfamiliar dogs, she could initially bark or briefly chase them while becoming acquainted. These interactions appeared energetic rather than conflict-seeking. After having an opportunity to investigate and become familiar with the other dog, she generally interacted without difficulty. She is interested in food and may try to take food when the opportunity arises, but she responds to redirection and does not show food aggression toward people. Structured feeding and individual feeding spaces are recommended during her transition. Ava's adjustment in her current environment provides useful information about what her future caregivers may see after adoption: she may need patience and space initially, particularly following travel, but once she feels secure, she has demonstrated a strong capacity to build trust and become an affectionate, socially engaged dog.
