Story
Cassava—“Sava” to those who love her—is the kind of dog who quietly steals your heart and then never lets it go. This lovely 3-year-old Border Collie/Basset mix, weighing 34 pounds, is the perfect blend of charm, intelligence, and easygoing companionship.   Sava’s story is one of love and doing the right thing. She was adopted from a local humane society by a young man who adored her, but as life settled in, his long workdays—often 10 to 12 hours at a time—left Sava spending too much time alone. Wanting more for her than he could provide, he searched for help and never gave up until Critter Cavalry Rescue stepped in to change the course of her life. Now Sava is ready for her true forever home—and what a gem she is.   She has a beautifully balanced personality: playful when it’s time for fun, but just as happy to relax and cuddle when the day winds down. She enjoys being active and would love regular exercise, but she’s not high-strung or overwhelming. While she’d certainly enjoy having a yard to run in, she’s proven she can adapt to apartment living as long as her physical and mental needs are met. Sava is housebroken and crate trained, and she settles well when crated during longer absences. She’s still polishing her leash skills, but with a little consistency, she’ll be a wonderful walking companion. Like many clever dogs, she has a playful streak—especially when it comes to paper products—so a dog-savvy home setup is always a plus.   When it comes to companionship, Sava checks every box. She’s gentle and loving with children, social and playful with other dogs, and even respectful of cats. Her temperament makes her an easy addition to many types of households.   Sava isn’t just a beautiful dog—she’s the kind of loyal, loving companion who will be by your side through it all, whether you’re out exploring or simply enjoying a quiet evening at home.    If you’ve been searching for a dog who brings together personality, adaptability, and heart, Sava is ready to meet you.   To learn more or request an application, please email: ccrnewengland@gmail.com       PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comApril 5, 2026, 9:29 pm

Story
Fred is approximately 3–4 years old, weighs about 50lbs. He's a Tricolor Border Collie mix, neutered and fully house trained. His energy level is moderate — playful outside, calm indoors. Fred is a sensitive, sweet, emotionally intuitive herding-breed mix who forms deep, meaningful bonds with the people he trusts. Once he feels safe, he becomes affectionate, playful, gentle, quirky, connected, and eager to be near his person. He settles well in the home, often resting at your feet or choosing a comfortable nearby spot. He likes being close but is not clingy; he simply enjoys companionship from a place of safety. Fred thrives with calm, predictable handling, gentle voices, and slow movements that give him space to build trust at his own pace. Fred is highly sensitive and easily overwhelmed by unfamiliar people, sudden movement into his space, loud or chaotic environments, and unpredictability. He needs slow introductions, time to observe, soft tones, gentle body language, consistent routines, and a peaceful, stable environment. With these supports, he warms up beautifully and becomes affectionate, expressive, and securely attached. Fred has fear-based reactivity, not true aggression. When overwhelmed, he may growl, snap, air-bite, or lunge if he feels cornered or pressured. With proper introductions and calm interactions, these behaviors reduce significantly or disappear. Fred has significant separation and isolation anxiety. When left alone, he may pace, bark, whine, pant excessively, drool excessively, become restless, or struggle to settle. Despite this distress, he has never been destructive and does not soil indoors. He needs gradual alone-time training, consistency, predictability, a low-stress environment, and possibly a calm dog companion. Fred plays well with other dogs, adjusts his energy appropriately, relaxes around calm dogs, gains confidence from a steady canine companion, and checks in frequently with his person. On leash, he may show mild reactivity at close ranges but redirects well. Off leash he is appropriate, social, and not aggressive. Fred is an excellent walking companion with good leash manners and strong impulse control. He calmly observes deer and responds immediately to cues. Indoors, Fred is calm, quiet, and relaxed. He settles easily and is not clingy or demanding. He is an easy, gentle house companion. His strengths are: affectionate once bonded, gentle with treats, excellent with calm dogs, responsive to cues, calm in the car, playful outdoors, mellow indoors, emotionally attuned, intelligent and sensitive, checks in often, settles beautifully after exercise Fred has some challenges which includes fear-based reactivity, significant separation anxiety, environmental sensitivity, and need for slow introductions. Fred thrives with someone experienced, patient, and consistent, who can support gradual alone-time training and provide a stable environment. Fred is loving, sensitive, intelligent, and deeply loyal when he feels safe. As with herding breeds we suggest a home with no toddlers! He shows immense heart and tries hard to do well. He's looking for a family that will work with him,, he will show you he is worth it! Story
Cooper is the dream dog everybody hopes to adopt - with strikingly good looks, a deeply affectionate spirit, a wonderfully balanced and super friendly personality, an even temperament and a moderate energy level that fits beautifully into most everyone's lifestyle, he truly checks every box. Cooper is the total package for an active household looking for a fun, well-rounded companion that can slip right in and become part of the family without stress. Cooper thrives on human companionship, is playful without being over-the-top and is wonderfully biddable. He's a homebody with no interest in running off and has good recall. He loves attention, food, playing fetch, car rides, walks, kissing and cuddling, squeaky toys, sleeping on the couch and playtime with canine friends. He also has a great ability to self-entertain, happily tossing around a squeaky toy when his people are busy. Cooper is very intelligent and well manned. He knows basic commands, waits to be released for his food and at the door; and, he cooperatively waits for his treats to be handed to him and for his ball to be thrown when alongside his canine housemates. Cooper is happiest when he has a large space to adequately stretch his legs and a canine buddy to hang out and romp with. So, another young, playful dog is high priority for his new home. Applicants should also have a quarter acre or more of yard space to give Cooper room to stretch his legs and play. He’s more of a sprinter than a long-distance runner and lives for a couple burn sessions of fetch with his Chuckit! ball every day. Someone looking for a dog to take to another level will find Coopers toy drive and speed make him an excellent candidate for flyball or Fast CAT. Cooper is also an extremely smart boy with a fantastic nose, making him a good candidate for nose work or enrichment games like hide-and-seek with his people. Cooper is a purebred Border Collie around 2 years old and 45 pounds. He is in excellent health, housebroken, crate trained, neutered, microchipped, dewormed, utd on vaccines, heartworm negative and on prevention medications. Cooper is being fostered in Chocowinity, NC by ARC Border Collie Rescue. Questions about Cooper can be directed to lamblady.anne@gmail.com.
