Story
Konrad is a one year old, handsome, smooth-coated family-friendly, dog-friendly, easy going, playful purebred Border Collie looking for his chance to find a forever home. He was born on a farm, given away, then abandoned. Despite Konrad's bumpy start to life he retained an incredibly sweet and trusting personality - he loves both people and dogs. He currently enjoys life with three canine (two Border Collies and a German Shepherd) companions who are showing him the ropes and what it's like to be a cherished part of a family. He especially enjoys playing with his Border Collies buddies! At his foster home he is experiencing the good life and quickly learning the joys of being a dog, a companion and a family member. He's beginning to understand the joys of fetch, enjoys interacting with people, and has a playful, fun-loving personality. One of his adorable quirks is that he likes to gently nibble at you when you're preparing his meals or first waking up in the morning—a sweet, if slightly goofy, way of saying he's happy to see you. Konrad is highly intelligent and eager to learn, making steady progress on crate and house training. He also walks nicely on a leash and rides well in the car. He hasn't shown sensitivity to loud noises or thunderstorms. When working with Konrad, he responds best to sensitive verbal corrections and calm leadership. As is typical of many Border Collies, Konrad is intensely attracted to small animals that he can chase, a trait that comes from his herding instincts. With Konrad on patrol, your yard will quickly become squirrel-free! But, because of this drive, he is not a good match for a home with small pets such as rabbits, gerbils, or other pocket pets, and he is not suitable for a home with cats. He will also require a securely fenced yard with a 5–6 foot fence. This young boy will need an active lifestyle, a home with a large fenced yard, and people willing to provide him with plenty of exercise, continued training, and fun mental stimulation. If you're ready to do this, Konrad promises you'll get a loyal, affectionate, and entertaining companion. Konrad is neutered, utd on vaccinations, dewormed, microchipped, negative for heartworm and on monthly preventatives and in flea meds. He is being fostered by the Atlantic Region Central Border Collie Rescue in Newport News, Virginia. If you would like more information about Konrad you can email mcclellanka@gmail.com. Story
‍ Maddy is a sweet, gentle 10-year-old border collie mix whose life recently turned upside down when her owner suddenly passed away. She went to boarding when he went to the hospital, and never went home again. This teddy bear dog is a very easygoing girl. She is great with all people, kids, cats, and is fantastic with other dogs since she has always lived with them. She loves nothing more than a window to look out of, a couple walks a day, and some gentle pets. She occasionally asks for attention, satisfied with some gentle pets or head rubs, and she’s extremely huggable — all that fluff! She’s an absolute dream on a leash, walking beside you and responding even to slight leash pressure. When you pet her, she’ll lean into the pets, give you sweet kisses, and her mouth relaxes into the cutest smile. Maddy is a lovely companion and would make a great family dog. Like anyone who has lost someone they loved, Maddy is still a bit sad and grieving. Foster care has been a big change after spending 9 years with one person, and she's understandably a little confused at times, but adjusting more every day. She’s a gentle soul, but she needs the stability of a forever home. At 80lbs, Maddy is on a weight loss journey. Her ideal weight is about 60lbs. Like most older dogs, she has some arthritis in her back legs. She gets around just fine, and loves her walks, but stairs are currently a bit difficult for her. Her vet expects weight loss to make a big difference in her comfort and mobility. With love and care she should reach her ideal weight in 3-6 months. Maddy’s ideal home has few stairs, a fenced-in yard so she can explore (a bonus, not a requirement), and a gentle, patient family that will be committed to helping Maddy live her fullest life at her ideal weight. She would do great in a family with kids, other dogs, or cats, but would equally do great as an only child. In return, her family will get a gentle cow-bear best friend with lots of love to give. You will be giving her the chance to blossom and feel her very best. ‍‍Maddy is being fostered in Raleigh, NC. She’s up to date on vaccinations, spayed, microchipped, heartworm negative, and on regular heartworm/flea/tick prevention. If you would like more information on Maddy please contact lisa.a.pepin@gmail.com or apply to adopt at www.arcbcr.org
