Athena is a little over 4 years old and almost like a fun-sized shepherd mix. She’s had a rough beginning as she was picked up as a stray in Mexico, along with her sister. They came to us extremely scared of everything and have come a long way since being with us. While her sister got adopted shortly after, Athena got left behind still looking for her forever family. She is one of our special girls who needs her forever family to be really patient with her as she learns to get comfortable with you. She is still very shy and we suggest a home with no kids and a female-only household. Athena would benefit best from having an outgoing, friendly dog in the house for her to follow (she used to look to her sister for direction). She loves playing with toys and walks well on a leash. When she arrived, she was heartbreakingly shut down—her fur painfully matted, covered in debris, and too scared to even lift her head. She curled into the smallest ball she could make, hoping the world would simply leave her alone. She wouldn’t come forward to greet anyone; she had lost trust, and she had lost hope. At just 30 lbs, she’s still gaining weight after refusing to eat in the shelter from fear and confusion. But despite everything she’s endured, Butterscotch is quietly, bravely learning to live again. In her foster home, she’s slowly opening up. She has discovered that gentle hands are safe, soft voices are comforting, and she now allows volunteers to pet her with a sweetness that melts your heart. She is still early in her journey—learning what love feels like, learning how to walk on a leash, learning that she matters. Butterscotch lights up around other dogs. Their presence brings her comfort, confidence, and a sense of belonging. At 11–12 years old and just under 15 pounds, this resilient senior is looking for a foster or forever home where he can spend his golden years in comfort. While Gimpy navigates the world with limited sight and hearing, he makes up for it with a heart full of curiosity. He is a professional lounger who loves a good nap, but he’s also an "explorer" at heart, happily sniffing his way around new spaces. The Deets on Gimpy: Easy-Going:  He is incredibly low-maintenance and sweet. Social:  He coexists peacefully with other dogs and would likely be fine with cats. House Trained:  As long as you stick to a simple routine (out after naps and meals), he’s a total pro. Low Energy:  No marathons here! Gimpy prefers a quick "business trip" outside followed by some quality sniffing time.   Gimpy is currently waiting for his leg amputation surgery, and we would love to find him a quiet home to recover in.
