Story
She’s a fun-loving pup who adores toys, enjoys cuddles, and brings a happy burst of energy wherever she goes. Her previous owner shared that she’s potty trained and crate trained, and she’s done well with kids. Because of her past experiences, she’ll need to be the only dog in the home—but she has more than enough love and enthusiasm to fill your world all on her own. She’s ready for an active, affectionate home that enjoys both playtime and snuggle time.

Story
Meatball is a sweet and snuggly American Bulldog/Staffordshire Terrier mix who loves nothing more than cuddles and belly rubs. He enjoys a good game of fetch and isn't reactive. However, due to his strength and clumsy nature, he’d do best in a home with dogs his size and/or older kids. Meatball is fully house-trained and would thrive with someone familiar with his breed. If you're looking for a loyal, loving companion with lots of affection to give, Meatball is your guy! 🐾❤️

Story
Wonder is a young Boston Terrier with a big personality and an even bigger heart. He’s full of energy and always ready to play, whether it’s zooming around the yard or going for a fun walk. When playtime is over, his sweet side really shines. He loves attention, cuddles, and being close to his people. Treats are definitely the way to his heart, and they make training extra fun with him! Wonder would do great in a home that can match his lively spirit and give him lots of love, playtime, and snacks.

Story
Hi, I'm Romeo! I was brought here as a tiny puppy from a place where I was barely getting fed. I was adopted shortly after and recently got returned due to weird circumstances. I suddenly had two injuries- one was my eye which needs to be removed and the other is much more. I have a torn cruciate ligament. The shelter is currently raising money to pay for my surgery but I will need a place to stay for 6-8 weeks with cage rest so I can recover. I'm a sweet boy and get along with everyone, even livestock!  If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2352756##

Story
Jack is a 3-4 year old Pug weighing about 16lbs.  Jack came from Mexico where he was brought to a shelter in pretty bad condition.  His eye was damaged and needed to be removed immediately.  We don't know what happened to his eye, but he has since fully recovered and is happy, healthy little guy!   Jack gets along well with other dogs and all people.  He is very snuggly and loves to follow his foster Momma around the house.  He is learning how to play with toys and is just as cute and sweet at can be. If you are interested in adopting Jack, please fill out our adoption application at brighterdaysdogrescue.com ##2668187##

Story
🐾 Meet Winston — Your Loyal Little Meatball 🐾 Winston is a 3.5-year-old, neutered male French Bulldog with a solid 35-lb “meatball” build, a stunning blue merle coat, and one brown eye + one blue eye that will stop you in your tracks. He’s healthy, has had his nares corrected, and is ready to be someone’s devoted best friend. This handsome guy is deeply loyal and completely people-oriented. Winston loves his humans with his whole heart — he’s happiest curled up on the couch, tucked in beside you, or following you from room to room like the ultimate shadow dog. If you want a Frenchie who truly bonds, Winston is your guy. ✨ The good stuff: Affectionate, loving, and devoted Walks well on leash Reliably house-trained (with the occasional accident during big routine changes) Does well with other dogs - will consider a calm female. Thrives on structure, reassurance, and calm leadership 🛡️ What to know (and love him for): Winston is naturally protective of his people and the things he values, especially toys and food. Because of this, he needs an adopter who understands resource guarding and is comfortable continuing clear boundaries and guidance. He forms strong attachments and may be vocal when separated or when unfamiliar people pass by — but with reassurance and consistency, he settles beautifully. 🏡 Ideal home: Winston will thrive in a stable, patient home where he feels included and secure. He’s best suited for someone familiar with French Bulldogs who enjoys a close, loyal companion and is committed to helping him build confidence. No young kids and no cats/prey animals. Winston has a severe allergy to feathered food (chicken, turkey) and does best on Hydrolyzed Protein HP diet. 💙 In return? Unwavering loyalty. Endless affection. A dog who loves his people fiercely and wants nothing more than to be by your side. If you’re looking for a devoted companion with a big heart, a bold personality, and eyes you’ll never forget — Winston is ready to choose you. 🐶💫

Story
Baron is the kind of dog who brings rhythm, warmth, and a whole lot of personality into your life. He thrives on structure and truly shines when he knows what to expect each day. His perfect morning? You with a cup of coffee, him by your side, followed by a walk to stretch his legs and sniff the neighborhood news. He enjoys a little over a cup of breakfast, an afternoon snack, and (let’s be honest) happily accepts treats as part of his daily love language. Baron typically enjoys 3–4 walks a day — a couple shorter potty-and-sniff breaks plus one longer walk for real exercise and enrichment. He’s active without being overwhelming and would love a human who enjoys getting outside regularly. Walks aren’t just exercise for him — they’re connection time. At home, Baron is affectionate, loyal, and happiest when he’s near his person. He’s allowed in bed and has confidently worked his way from politely sleeping at the foot to sharing your pillow. If you gently nudge him over, he’ll oblige… but he would absolutely prefer to cuddle. He melts for scratches in his little doggie armpits and loves being doted on. Socially, Baron does well with thoughtful introductions and the right energy match. He can thrive as an only dog soaking up all the attention, or with a playful companion who matches his vibe. He has done fine with respectful cats and understands boundaries. With kids and new dogs, success comes down to temperament and calm leadership. His natural curiosity is sometimes misread, but with reassurance and guidance, he settles beautifully. Baron’s biggest gift? He bonds deeply. He’s smart, observant, and full of charm — the kind of dog who makes ordinary days feel special. He will happily structure his world around yours, become your walking buddy, your couch companion, and your nightly snuggle partner. If you’re ready for a loyal best friend who thrives on routine, loves adventure in manageable doses, and believes pillows are meant to be shared… Baron is waiting. 💫
