Story
Wonder is a young Boston Terrier with a big personality and an even bigger heart. He’s full of energy and always ready to play, whether it’s zooming around the yard or going for a fun walk. When playtime is over, his sweet side really shines. He loves attention, cuddles, and being close to his people. Treats are definitely the way to his heart, and they make training extra fun with him! Wonder would do great in a home that can match his lively spirit and give him lots of love, playtime, and snacks.

Story
Hi there, I'm Bang! I'm just a puppy, full of energy and curiosity. My days are spent exploring my surroundings, sniffing out new scents, and playing with my brothers, Bing and Bong. We're quite the trio! I love making new friends, both human and canine. My goofy nature and playful antics will keep you entertained for hours. I'm always ready for a game of fetch or a good belly rub. I'm eager to learn and I've got so much love to give. If you're looking for a friendly, energetic companion who will bring joy and laughter into your life, I'm your pup! If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2352756##

*****Please note, once you complete the initial screening, you will be connected with the placement for a video chat. Transports run every few weeks, and we will have the dog on the next available transport once approved. If you are not able to accept a dog until a specific time period, please apply at that time*********** We are a volunteer-run rescue and donate our time to these dogs. IF you are not serious about moving forward in our adoption process, please do not apply. If someone other than yourself is part of the decision-making process, please make sure you have spoken with them and they are on board. We do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog. **PENNY (Penelope)** — A Little Cartoon Character With a Whole Lot of Heart Penny is a 2-year old medium sized gal with short legs, a big personality, and the kind of charm that makes everyone smile. She is currently in Houston and can be transported out of state once an approved adopter is lined up! Her foster says she moves like a cartoon character, pouncing, bouncing, and zooming with her legs running faster than her body can keep up. She’s full of joy, sweetness, and silliness, and once she’s done entertaining everyone, she loves nothing more than curling up beside her person on the couch. Penny is affectionate in her own unique way, sometimes nudging her nose into your side before climbing her way right into your lap. She adores people, enjoys the company of other dogs, and brings a special type of warmth and humor to any room she walks into. Penny has wonderful social skills and enjoys playing with dogs both her size and much larger. She plays rough but listens well when corrected and respects another dog’s cues when they’ve had enough. She hasn’t lived with cats but has shown no interest when she’s encountered them. Penny hasn’t spent time with young children, and because of her strong, bouncy play style, she would do best in a home with kids ten and older. She is housebroken once she adjusts to a new routine, does well in a crate, and walks nicely on leash, preferring to wander and sniff rather than march in a straight line. She rides quietly in the car, eats comfortably around other dogs, and shares toys and space with no issues. Penny would thrive in a home that understands or appreciates bulldog breeds and all their wonderful quirks. She is energetic enough to enjoy playtime in the yard but settles beautifully afterward for long naps and cuddles. She snores loudly, breathes like many short-nosed breeds do, and occasionally gets winded after a big burst of activity. The vet has assured that these are typical traits for her breed, and her adopter should be ready to love her exactly as she is or explore surgical options if recommended by their own vet. Penny would enjoy having another dog in the home but would also do well as the center of someone’s world. Her foster describes her as playful, silly, affectionate, and endlessly entertaining—a dog who will make you laugh and then melt into your side like she was meant to be there all along. Penny is ready for a family who will appreciate her goofy heart, her loyal nature, and her big, bright spirit. She has so much love to give, and she can’t wait to share it with the person who sees just how special she truly is. If you are interested in adding this silly girl into your family, please fill out the adoption application below! https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/DDAR/Dog **Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown. We rarely know a dog's exact age nor are we able to tell the true or full breed mix of dogs as our information is limited most of the time. **

Story
Hi. My name is Poppy, and I am a Pug/Chihuahua mix.  I am 14 months old, weigh about nine pounds and everyone says I am cute as a button and full of personality. I love to play, take walks, ride in the car, and snuggle. I have a lot of foster mutt siblings at my foster home. I like most of them, but one is really big. Foster mama says he weighs thirty pounds! She tells me he is very friendly, but I am not so sure of that, so I have to show him who’s boss. Foster mama says I can be protective of my favorite human around the other resident mutts. She says it's understandable because I didn't have the easiest past and so I want to make sure I keep tabs on the nice humans.  My best fit forever family or human would be a patient and loving adult or adults, maybe with another dog my size.  I like treats, lots of cuddles, and sleeping curled up with my human. I also like to go wherever my human is going. Sometimes I dash out the door in excitement, but I come back when mama calls. My new family will have to understand that I am just a little thing. The world can be scary, and I need to show how brave and fierce I am. (Mama says that is the Chihuahua in me.) If you're interested in adopting Poppy, please fill out an adoption application here: https://underdogsrescue.org/adopt-form/ Underdogs is a small volunteer-based animal rescue and we unfortunately do not have the resources to respond to phone and email inquires about our adoptable animals at this time. If you're interested in learning more or setting up a meeting with one of our animals, please complete an adoption application first. It may take up to two weeks for application review and one of our coordinators will reach out to you as soon as we are through the intitial review process. We appreciate your patience and understanding! Thank you! ##1943487##

Story
🐾 Meet Winston — Your Loyal Little Meatball 🐾 Winston is a 3.5-year-old, neutered male French Bulldog with a solid 35-lb “meatball” build, a stunning blue merle coat, and one brown eye + one blue eye that will stop you in your tracks. He’s healthy, has had his nares corrected, and is ready to be someone’s devoted best friend. This handsome guy is deeply loyal and completely people-oriented. Winston loves his humans with his whole heart — he’s happiest curled up on the couch, tucked in beside you, or following you from room to room like the ultimate shadow dog. If you want a Frenchie who truly bonds, Winston is your guy. ✨ The good stuff: Affectionate, loving, and devoted Walks well on leash Reliably house-trained (with the occasional accident during big routine changes) Does well with other dogs - will consider a calm female. Thrives on structure, reassurance, and calm leadership 🛡️ What to know (and love him for): Winston is naturally protective of his people and the things he values, especially toys and food. Because of this, he needs an adopter who understands resource guarding and is comfortable continuing clear boundaries and guidance. He forms strong attachments and may be vocal when separated or when unfamiliar people pass by — but with reassurance and consistency, he settles beautifully. 🏡 Ideal home: Winston will thrive in a stable, patient home where he feels included and secure. He’s best suited for someone familiar with French Bulldogs who enjoys a close, loyal companion and is committed to helping him build confidence. No young kids and no cats/prey animals. Winston has a severe allergy to feathered food (chicken, turkey) and does best on Hydrolyzed Protein HP diet. 💙 In return? Unwavering loyalty. Endless affection. A dog who loves his people fiercely and wants nothing more than to be by your side. If you’re looking for a devoted companion with a big heart, a bold personality, and eyes you’ll never forget — Winston is ready to choose you. 🐶💫
