Story
Hi there, I'm Bang! I'm just a puppy, full of energy and curiosity. My days are spent exploring my surroundings, sniffing out new scents, and playing with my brothers, Bing and Bong. We're quite the trio! I love making new friends, both human and canine. My goofy nature and playful antics will keep you entertained for hours. I'm always ready for a game of fetch or a good belly rub. I'm eager to learn and I've got so much love to give. If you're looking for a friendly, energetic companion who will bring joy and laughter into your life, I'm your pup! If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2352756##

Muck – Male Pug Chi Puppy Age: Puppy DOB: 08/25/2025  Weight: Growing – currently around 15 pounds Health: Healthy, vaccinated, and ready for his forever family Meet Muck, the little charmer with a heart as big as his round puppy eyes! This roly-poly bundle of joy is curious, funny, and absolutely full of life. Muck loves everyone he meets and greets each day like it’s the best day ever. He’s playful, cuddly, and already showing that classic Pug personality — loyal, a little bit goofy, and completely irresistible. Breed Info: Pugs are known for their clownish charm, loyalty, and love of human companionship. They’re small but mighty in spirit, typically reaching 14–18 pounds when full grown. Pugs are wonderful family companions who thrive on affection and do best indoors as part of everyday life. Their adorable wrinkly faces and big personalities make them one of the most lovable breeds around. Owner Responsibilities & Things to Consider: Adopting a puppy like Muck means more than cuddles — it’s a commitment to teaching, training, and guiding a young dog through life. Expect potty training, teething, chewing, and learning basic manners. Muck will look to you for patience and gentle structure as he grows. If you rent, make sure your landlord allows dogs and understand that raising a puppy takes time, money, and consistency. Pugs can also be heat-sensitive, so they must live indoors with their family. The 3-3-3 Rule: Remember — it takes about 3 days for a new puppy to decompress, 3 weeks to learn your routine, and 3 months to truly feel at home. Give Muck that time, and he’ll reward you with endless love and loyalty. Commitment for Life: Muck isn’t just a puppy for now — he’s a friend for life. Adoption means you’re promising to care for him, love him, and keep him safe through every stage of life. Why Adopt Muck? Because every day with Muck will make your heart lighter. His silly antics, playful nature, and loving eyes will bring laughter and warmth to your home for years to come. Story
Meet Angel: Your future Snuggle Buddy and goofy velcro sidekick! Angel is a resilient, quirky little Frenchie who's come a long way from her breeder mama past. At 3 years old, she's finally learning what love, comfort, and belly rubs are all about, and she's ready to share her HUGE heart with the right person. Angel is very fearful with new people and needs a few days (and some quiet patience) to feel safe. However, once she opens up, she becomes your shadow, following you around the house, snuggling in your lap, and letting you know exactly how excited she is to see you with the cutest zoomies, happy little toe taps, and infinite kisses. She's silly and incredibly affectionate, with a huge personality packed into her small, snorty body. Angel is fully crate trained and uses her crate as a safe space. When left alone, she settles quietly without any destruction or accidents. She also sleeps peacefully through the night this way, though she'd be thrilled to snooze in her family's bed instead. That said, Angel would thrive in a home where crating is minimal and she can stay near her people most of the time. She's potty trained and often uses the dog door independently, but her foster still takes her out every 2-3 hours and after meals. After slow introductions, Angel loves to follow and play with other Frenchies, but she lives and gets along well with dogs of all sizes. She'd likely do best in a home with at least one confident dog to help her come out of her shell. Angel is cat-friendly and coexists perfectly with the kitty in her foster home. Angel will make a wonderful companion for the right person, but -and it's an important "but"- she's still healing from her past and learning to trust the outside world. She's afraid of new people, barks at dogs and humans on walks, and she can't live with kids. She'll need a calm, quiet, adults-only home, without a lot of visitors. As she adjusts, she'll need lots of patience, and someone who's willing to go slow. Fortunately, Angel is very responsive to training and has made great progress with desensitization. Her fosters manage triggers by giving her quiet crate time with music when guests are visiting, choosing calmer walks, and using mental enrichment. Reward-based training has stopped her barking at neighbors in the yard, and she’s continuing to work on household noise sensitivities. The good stuff: Great with other dogs and amazing with cats! Potty trained, learning the dog door. Zero destruction in the home; great about getting her toys out to chew. No counter-surfing or baby gate jumping. No resource guarding. Very smart, quick learner. Picked up basic obedience in just minutes. Snuggle champion and couch companion. Settles easily and loves a cozy routine. Challenges: No children- She's fearful and may snap in their direction if startled. Fearful of unexpected noises. Will need continued training and desensitization to these in her new home. She may bark in the yard or on walks, so apartment/condo living might not be ideal. Angel may have had a tough start, but she’s blossoming into a loving, loyal, and endlessly entertaining companion. With patience, understanding, and a calm home, she’ll reward her forever family with unconditional love, constant cuddles, and a lifetime of snorts, smiles, and happy zoomies. If you’re looking for a sweet, silly little shadow to share your days with, Angel just might be your perfect match.

Story
Meet Edna – The Sweetest Smile You’ll Ever See Edna has the kind of smile that stays with you. It’s full of love, life, and a little extra charm—thanks to her one-of-a-kind grin and irresistible personality. Found as a stray, Edna came to us still nursing from her most recent litter, with no one ever coming to claim her. Despite her rough start, Edna’s heart is full of love and she’s ready for a home where she can finally be someone’s cherished girl. Edna is blind and has just one eye, likely lost due to past trauma. But don’t feel sorry for her—this girl navigates the world with impressive confidence! She knows her way around her foster home like a pro, including how to get outside using stairs, and she’s fully house-trained. She even waits patiently by the door to go out. Edna’s also a fan of her crate, which she sees as her cozy, safe retreat. She’s a truly unique pup—likely a mini bully mix, about 35 pounds, with a stiff little tail that wags nonstop when she’s happy (which is often!). Her joyful personality shines through in the most charming ways, like her “submissive grin”—a toothy, cleft-lipped smile she flashes when she’s excited to meet someone new. It’s quirky, adorable, and completely Edna. Edna has a few health needs, including daily eye drops for dry eye, joint supplements for elbow dysplasia, and a preference for soft landings and slow mornings. But don’t let that fool you—this girl still has plenty of pep in her step and adores walks, car rides, and playtime with her foster brother. She especially loves “bitey-face” games and tearing up cardboard with pure joy. She’s happiest around calm, respectful dogs (especially boys!) and would do best in a home without female dogs. While new people can be a little scary for her at first, she warms up quickly when given the time and patience to feel safe. Once she does, she’ll melt into you for love, cuddles, and belly rubs. Edna carries some emotional scars from her past, but her resilience and capacity to love are nothing short of inspiring. She has moments when she needs a little extra care and reassurance, but more than anything, she just wants to be loved, understood, and cherished for the incredibly special soul she is. If you’re looking for a loyal, sweet, endlessly lovable dog who will reward your kindness with a thousand tail wags and that unforgettable smile—Edna is your girl. 💛
