Meet Henry! Henry is a joyful little guy with a big heart and a bounce in his step! This 1-year-old Boston Terrier / Chihuahua mix weighs just 18 pounds but brings a whole lot of love and personality wherever he goes.
Henry had been with his person since he was just six months old. She initially took him in to dogsit, but his original owner never returned. So, she gave Henry a home and loved him deeply for the next six months. However, she was disabled, couldn't walk him, and in her later 70's and it became clear that she could no longer keep up with Henry’s youthful energy and playful spirit. With a heavy heart and through tears, she made the difficult decision to surrender him to a shelter in New Mexico, hoping he could find a new home where he would truly thrive.
From Henry's foster:

"Henry is potty trained, loves toys (especially anything that squeaks!), and enjoys a good game of fetch or a cozy cuddle on the couch.
Henry "sits pretty" when you have a treat or food, and it's so cute!! Incase anyone doesn't know, that's when a dog stands on their back legs for a treat.
Henry is friendly, affectionate, and gets along great with both people and other dogs. He is so funny and so silly and does love other dogs.
Henry is still learning to walk on leash, as he wasn’t able to go on many walks in his former home. He’ll need a securely fenced yard—this boy is smart and curious and will find his way out if given the chance. Do NOT EVER leave him unattended in the yard!! He loves his people and doesn't want to be an outside dog.
If you're looking for a cheerful, playful guy with tons of heart, Henry just might be your perfect match."

Farfel's Rescue and our New Mexico rescue partners would love to see Henry in a home with an individual, couple, or active retirees who have the time and love for a very loyal and sweet dog. We'd hate to see him left alone all day while his family works full-time outside of the home, as he is much too social for that type of arrangement.
We'd like to place Henry in a home where he'll get consistent stimulation, exercise and love. A (virtual or in-person) positive reinforcement group training class promotes great behavior, bonding and confidence for a young guy whose self-esteem will fly high while he masters his skills. Training is so important in the future behaviors of every dog. It's for this reason that we're unwilling to adopt to a family that doesn't make this loving choice. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of both in-person and virtual positive reinforcement / force- free trainers in your area.
Henry has been fully vetted, he is in great health, up to date on his vaccines, and neutered.
Farfel's Rescue is a fully foster based rescue, and offers a one week trial with every adoption. We feel that this is much more beneficial to not only the dog, but the adopter too. We believe that only getting 20-30 minutes with a dog before deciding on a lifetime commitment is not a fair amount of time to the adopter, or the dog. Therefore we give adopters one week with the dog to assure it is the right fit, and offer a full refund of their adoption fee should it not workout within the week trial.
Farfel's Rescue has been doing adoptions this way since 2005 and is thrilled to adopt out ~400 dogs each year.
