Story
HI - I'M RILEY, and I'm looking for a special adopter! ! I'm a 3-year-old Boxer-Shepherd mix in need of a foster or forever home. I was rescued from a California shelter where I was pretty terrified - I sat in the back and looked at people as they walked by. Now, whenever I go someplace new, I'm scared all over again, until I really bond with my person. I have done fine with other dogs so far, but I need someone who can take me in and work with me to help me become confident and secure. I weigh about 50-55 lbs. Please email for an application.

Story
Hi, I’m Poppy! I came to HSVC through another agency and I’m ready to find a family to share all my energy and enthusiasm with. I’m a playful girl who loves having fun and enjoys spending time with other dogs, especially friends who can match my rough-and-rowdy play style. I’ve got a lively personality and would thrive in a home that appreciates a playful pup who’s always ready for action. If you’re looking for a fun-loving companion to keep life exciting, I’d love to meet you.

If you are interested in fostering please fill out an online foster application. Hi, I'm Leche, a mostly Boxer, Siberian Husky and German Shepherd with some American Pit Bull and Australian Shepherd. I had a DNA test done if you hadn't guessed. I was rescued from Animal Services and I'll always be grateful to CARL for being given a chance at finding my forever home. I was found as a stray with an injured front leg. I've since had surgery to repair my leg and I'm ready for my forever home. I would do best in a home with older children or adults and in a single dog home. I need lots of physical and mental stimulation. I love car rides, running, walking and most of all snuggling! If you are looking for a sweet shadow, it's me! I will follow you to the end of time. If you're interested in meeting me, please fill out an online application.March 7, 2026, 5:35 pm

Breed: Boxer / Pit Bull X DOB: 6/2022 Gender: female Altered: yes Coat: medium Size: medium Color(s): brown / white Description:Hi, I'm Sadie, a very active Boxer / Pit Bull X in need of a new home as I don't always get along with the cats in the home.I am very well-mannered and friendly with people. I am fearful of loud noises and therefore would do best in a quiet home. I need daily exercise and I'd make a great running partner as I love to run. I also enjoy playing ball and frisbee. I'm house and crate trained and have had formal training and know basic commands such as 'Come' and 'Sit'. 'Stay' is a work in progress.I am not good with small dogs and it's unknown if I'm good with large dogs. I do well with older children but I've not been around younger kids.If you're an active individual or family and are looking for a furry friend, please fill out an online application to meet me.March 7, 2026, 5:35 pm

Story
Available to foster or adopt!Breed: Boxer X DOB: 9/2017 Gender: female Altered: yes Coat: short Size: large Color(s): tan/white (white paws, blk muzzle) Description: ***Needs a Foster Home*** This dog is in need of a foster home as well as a permanent home. If you are interested in fostering please fill out an online foster application. Hi, I'm Amber, a very sweet Boxer X who was abandoned at CARL's Pet Care Center by another rescue who has been boarding me there. What I did to deserve this I'll never know. I was turned into the Riverside shelter by my ex-owners. When I thought my time was up, I was rescued or so I thought. I was grateful to be out of the shelter and had high hopes of finding my true forever home. Sadly I've been waiting since December 2024 with no sign of anyone finding me a forever home. The rescue who pulled me abandoned me without paying their boarding fees. Hard to believe that a supposed rescue would do that to another rescue who relies heavily on this income. Sadly it's not the first time that has happened to CARL. Thankfully CARL was able to take ownership of me under the California Abandoned Animal Act. I'm finally able to go on walks and interact with the CARL volunteers. The kennel manager said I'm good with strangers, but I have not really been socialized with other dogs yet. I was in a play group session and I was stiff but seemed interested in playing. They think I just need more experience interacting with dogs in that type of setting. Volunteers who have walked me say I'm a great walker who is not dog reactive. If you have a fur-baby in the home already, please bring him/her along so we can do a meet and greet. I did kill a skunk in my play yard once, so they think I probably would not be compatible with cats. I've been on a treadmill and I really enjoyed that.    I also enjoy a good belly rub.   I know basic commands including “paw” and I take treats nicely. If you're looking for a great gal to add to your family, please fill out an online application to meet me.  May 24, 2026, 8:24 pm

Story
Name: RoxyAge: 4 years oldWeight: 55 lbsRelationship Status: Looking for a calm, steady relationshipAbout Me:I’m Roxy — a sweet, strong-minded girl with a relaxed outlook on life and a heart that loves deeply. At 55 pounds, I’m the perfect mix of loyal companion and laid-back best friend. While some dogs dream of nonstop adventures, I’m more of a “short walk, cozy evening, and quality time together” kind of girl.I enjoy getting outside and exploring, but I prefer life at a slower pace. Leisurely strolls, peaceful routines, and relaxing with my favorite people are more my style than all-day chaos and constant activity. When it comes to friendships, I can be selective. I do best with calm, balanced larger male dogs and appreciate thoughtful introductions. I’m happiest in a stable environment where everyone respects each other’s space and energy.I bond closely with my people and truly thrive on companionship, affection, and consistency. I’m also very food-motivated, so continued training and bonding time together sound like a perfect date to me.What I’m Looking For:A calm, understanding home without young children where I can settle in comfortably and enjoy predictable routines. I’m searching for someone who appreciates a loyal, low-energy companion with a big heart and a loving soul.Think we could be a match? Reach out to SPARC and ask to meet Roxy.

Story
Meet Socks, an 11-month-old Pit/Heeler mix who’s never met a beach hedidn’t love. He’s all about sandy paws, salty breezes, and chasing waves —though his favorite part is curling up next to his human afterward for along nap.Socks is potty-trained, playful, and totally toy-obsessed. Tug-of-war? He’sthe reigning champ. A squeaky ball? Instant joy. And when the day windsdown, he’s happiest snuggled up in bed, dreaming about his next adventure. He’s great with other dogs and would love a confident canine buddy to helphim feel secure. His low prey drive means he might even be fine with cats.Socks is still shy with new people but getting braver every day with thehelp of patient, kind friends at the shelter. What this sun-soaked soul really needs is an experienced adopter who’llgive him time to trust — and maybe take him to the beach once in a while.Because under that shy exterior is a loyal, loving beach bum just waitingto find his forever wave.

Story
Luna came to us after losing one owner and then being abandoned by another. She was slow to trust — sitting frozen in her kennel for days. But once she opened up, we saw exactly who she`d been hiding: a silly, joyful, zooming, snuggling girl who had just needed someone to wait for her.Luna does the best zoomies. She greets her favorite handlers like they`re the most important person who ever walked through a door. She loves meeting new people, and — something we honestly weren`t sure we`d ever say — she loves meeting new dogs too. When she first came to us, she was undersocialized and reactive, and we weren`t sure she could share space with other dogs at all. Now she`s out in the yard with dog friends every day. We`ve done a complete 180, and we think a canine companion could actually be key to her success in a home. Here`s what we want you to know going in: change is hard for Luna. It was hard when she arrived, and it will probably be hard again when she moves to a new home. She has struggled to settle in foster situations — not because anything is wrong with her, but because her nervous system needs time to catch up with her heart. She`ll need a patient, experienced adopter who can give her space to decompress, maybe a room or corner to call her own, and the grace to let her get there at her own pace. Her excitability is something she`s still working on, and a little training will go a long way. What she needs in return isn`t much. A leash walk — which she`s great on. A chew toy and someone to sit beside — her ideal afternoon. The occasional snuggle. She knows sit and shake, she`s working on crate training, and she has so much love to give once she knows it`s safe to give it.Luna is worth the effort. Anyone who`s watched her come this far already knows that.
