Story
12/27 Update:🐶🌜Sampson - The Dog of Someone's Dreams!🐶🌜Sampson has been through a lot in a short time. Surrendered by his owners because he “outgrew” them, this 2-year-old Boxer/Sharpei mix was left confused and heartbroken, running door to door at the shelter trying to understand why his world suddenly changed. Thankfully, we're getting a clearer picture of who Sampson truly is thanks to time spent outside the shelter.Sampson is currently in a temporary foster home, and what they have discovered is a truly special dog. He is calm, obedient, and incredibly loving. He walks freely in the yard with no leash, doesn’t bother the chickens, makes friends with goats (see pic), and has never had a single accident in the house. He’s curious about cats but has decided they’re a little too intimidating for him, so he gives them space. 😅Sampson does have some trust issues, especially with men, and big or busy activity can make him unsure of what to do next. When he feels nervous, he sticks close to his person, often curling up in a lap or tucking in behind them on the couch, quietly watching the world. Once he trusts you, though, you’re in for life. He becomes your shadow, your snuggle buddy, and your best friend. A fuzzy blanket for naps is officially one of his favorite things.Earlier this month, Sampson also enjoyed a special doggie day out at Sandy Creek Park, and he absolutely lit up! He walked calmly by his volunteer’s side, rode quietly in the car and soaked up every moment of closeness. He’s a classic “leaner” dog, gently pressing his whole body against you just to feel connected. One of the sweetest moments? Watching him carefully inspect a tiny ladybug on the ground, pausing so intentionally to make sure he didn’t hurt it. That gentle moment says everything about Sampson’s heart.Sampson is about 65 pounds, housebroken, good with other dogs, and an all-around wonderful companion. He doesn’t need chaos or crowds, just a patient, kind human who understands that trust takes time and is willing to earn it.To meet Sampson, fill out an application and we'll help you set up a meet and greet since he's currently in foster care --> moaspets.com/adoptionapp.Let’s help Sampson find the home he’s been waiting for. 💙12/12 update: 🌲 Sampson’s Big Day Out! 🌲Sampson has had a tough couple of weeks since being surrendered by his owners. He simply “outgrew” them. At just 2 years old and 65 pounds (some of that definitely being adorable, jolly Santa-round chonk), he’s been trying to make sense of the sudden change. But today, he got exactly what his heart needed: a doggie day-out field trip to Sandy Creek Park on a warm, sunny December day with his new human friend. And he lit up.🥹Sampson is a big, happy leaner...the kind of dog who will gently press his whole weight against you just to feel close. At the park, every time his volunteer sat on the ground, Sampson hurried over and snuggled right in, thrilled to have someone to lean on.One of the sweetest moments?🐞 A ladybug landed on the ground right in front of him. Sampson leaned down, curious, but so intentionally careful not to hurt it. That tiny, gentle pause said everything about the kind of soul he is.He was an easy, quiet passenger in the car, settling into the back seat like a calm little co-pilot (he just needs a little help hopping in). At the park he enjoyed walking laps and stayed loyally by his volunteer’s side the whole time. Although he’s a bit too round for the “Adopt Me” vest to buckle, he makes up for it with an abundance of kisses once he trusts you.😘Sampson is a sweetheart who just wants connection, closeness, and someone who won’t give up on him when he grows...although ideally, his next family will help him shed a few pounds.😆 He’s ready for a new beginning with someone who sees his gentle spirit and loves him exactly as he is. This is a GREAT dog who will bring joy to your life for the holidays! He doesn't belong at our shelter.Come by the Madison Oglethorpe Animal Shelter, Wednesday-Saturday, 12-5pm or Sunday, 12-4pm and ask staff to help you meet Sampson. Or let us know you're interested and we'll help you schedule a meet with him by filling out our online form --> https://www.moaspets.com/adoptionappSampson was so confused about being brought in by his owner and left with us today. He's a 2 year old Boxer/Sharpei mix who is so sweet and absolutely loves butt scratches! Sampson weighs about 65 pounds and is reported to be good with other dogs and housebroken! His eyes were so sad, and he kept running from door to door to try to figure out what was going on. Please help get him out of here before he has to stay with us too long. Please call the shelter at (706) 795-2868 to schedule a meet and greet.Madison Oglethorpe Animal Shelter is a non-profit shelter serving over 720 square miles. We are open intake, meaning we can not turn away animals from either county we serve. Story
We took in a starving mom and her 5 pups after we received word they were getting euthanized for space. Of course we have no idea what breeds mom is and no clue on dad so we are using the "Best Guess" system. Most likely Boxer, Lab Pitbull, Hound? Who knows? But they deserve to live and have great homes. Pups are close to 8 weeks and can head out then. They are happy, healthy, loveable kids. Please remember that any dog is a huge responsibility and raising a puppy into a balanced adult dog takes time, patience and love. We do have a puppy schedule that has been proven to make things much easier when you stick to it. A huge bonus if you ask me!!! Moms photo is the last image. Great disposition, sweet girl

Story
Miss Margo is a mixed breed cutie with a sweet soul and great disposition. Honesty, we are having a terrible time trying to pick to breeds to market her. She is crate trained, house trained and has wonderful house manners. Margo adores other dogs and loves to play, she is very dog friendly. She could stand to lose a few pounds so you have your walking or jogging partner right here. Margo is a medium energy dog so she would be great for the working family. Crate during work, then out and about for the rest of the day. Margo came to us as a stray with babies and is ready for her home.
