Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Shelby is a very special dog who is initially shy and sometimes slow to trust new people, but once she is comfortable with you, she is such a cuddly and playful girl! She makes the wait so worthwhile with her goofy personality!!Shelby originally came into Safe Haven back in 2019 because her original family had young kids, and due to the special needs of one of the kids, they felt they needed to find Shelby a new home because she had escaped multiple times when the child accidentally left the front door open. Shelby's initial fearfulness does make it quite difficult to catch her once she is running.  It was so clear that she was dearly loved, and we are blessed to be entrusted with the task of caring for Shelby.  Shelby was adopted fairly quick back in 2019 and has lived the last four years with a wonderful retired woman who really loved Shelby, but sadly she has progressive health issues that required her to move from her home.  She has been loved and wonderfully cared for, and is now 6 years old and looking for a new home that can continue to spoil her.  One requirement for Shelby's new home is that there are NO CATS - she just is not a fan of the felines. Shelby is fine with kids, but she will do best with a little older kids, as loud unpredictable toddlers may make her nervous. Shelby is house-trained and crate trained. Her previous families would LOVE for Shelby to find a new home that has a fenced in yard where she can run and play safely outside and potentially shed a few extra pounds that she has gained over the past couple years! A fenced in yard would be also helpful because if Shelby gets loose it is very hard to catch her due to her shy nature, so her ideal home would be one with a fenced yard.  We have no idea what mix Shelby actually is but we have to wonder if she is also part greyhound because she is so fast and makes other dogs look clumsy by comparison! If you're looking for a lifelong canine companion, and are willing to be patient while Shelby gets to know and trust you, please consider adopting this sweet girl!Interested in adopting this pet? Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Meet Mac! This handsome guy is full of life, love and he's truly a bouncy ball of joy to be around. Mac had a DNA test, he's 52% boxer and the remaining mix is American Pitbull and surprisingly 10% Siberian Husky!  We certainly see him to be a healthy and active pup!  He loves to be where the action is, so an active family would be a great fit.  He loves balls and bones, and will do well with another medium to large playful dog.  Mac is not a fit with a home that has cats, and he does think that he's a hunting dog once he hits the grass so a well fenced in yard will keep him from chasing the squirrels in your neighborhood! Mac is also super smart and already knows basic commands like sit, shake and spin!    Mac's adoption fee is $250 and includes his neuter, micro chip, current vaccinations and preventatives plus a free basic training obedience class at Cedar Run in Hiawatha.  Last Hope requires that all animals be kept as indoor pets only, altered and current on preventatives and vaccinations.  Our adoption process includes reference and background checks, a vet check and a home visit.  Please complete an adoption application for consideration at www.AdoptHope.orgVisit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.December 9, 2023, 12:27 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Atlas is ready to be the king of your world! This handsome bridle boy is happiest when he's running and playing fetch.  Atlas is well trained and knows how to sit, shake, stay, lay down, wait, come, leave it and get up. Atlas is also muzzle trained, he prefers to wear this when meeting strangers or doing scary things like visiting the vet's office.  Atlas would thrive in an active home with adults only who are dog savvy and maintain a relatively quiet home life. We don't know all of his background, but we know that strangers in the home are scary to Atlas and he isn't sure if he's supposed to protect you from them or not!  Atlas loves to play, so another playful dog in the home would make for a perfect match! Atlas is kennel and potty trained, and also loves to give kisses. A 4-6 foot high fenced in yard would be a dream come true for ol' Atlas, here he could run and play to his hearts content and maybe learn some more impressive commands with a little help from his new family. If you are interested in learning more about Atlas please complete an adoption application for consideration at www.AdoptHope.org.  The adoption fee for Atlas is $250 and includes his neuter, microchip, current vaccinations and preventatives as well as a FREE obedience class through Cedar Run in Hiawatha.  Our adoption process includes reference and background checks, a vet check and home visit.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.December 9, 2023, 12:27 pm
