Story
UPDATE!! This pretty girl is Princess! We have had her since she was a small puppy who came basically feral. Her foster has put in a lot of TLC and this girl has just blossomed. That once terrified girl is now confident and oh so sweet. She handled all the commotion at the large adoption event like a champ. Not scared, walked on a leash perfectly and greeted every person with a tail wag. She’s young still around 8-9 months old. She weighs 45 lbs. We believe she is a Boxer mix with maybe terrier or bulldog. She is very loving and binds with her people hard. Still puppy so bores easy if left alone so we recommend crating when not home and she does perfect in a crate. She’s great with all size dogs and does well with her fosters grandchildren. Princess is fully up to date, altered and ready for a home to call her own. All dogs have a $175 adoption fee which includes vet check, age appropriate shots (atleast 2 sets for puppies), dewormer, heartworm test (if over 6 months), rabies (if atleast 16 weeks) and spay/neuter! Puppies will be altered before adoption. All rescues and shelters practice pediatric spay and neuter. This is essential in our rescue efforts and it is a policy that we will stick by. All dogs over 8 weeks and 2 pounds will be altered before adoption. There are no exceptions to this rule on all healthy and adoptable dogs. We have researched and discussed in depth with multiple vets everything on pediatric spay and neuter and from a rescue stand point it must be done. Please do not ask for an extension on spay and neutering, it will NOT be granted on a healthy puppy! Puppies/Dogs that are not available for adoption due to vetting not being complete can be reserved with an approved application and a non refundable $50 deposit. This deposit is applied to your adoption fee and the remaining $125 is due at pick up. Wags and Whiskers is an all-volunteer rescue. We also have full-time jobs and Families. We will try to answer all questions and applications in a timely manner. Please be patient and bear with us . Do not contact any of the vet clinics we work with, as they are a vet clinic and can not answer questions on behalf of Wags and Whiskers. All questions and comments must go directly through the rescue. Thank you for your understanding. Story
August is a 3 year old girl who came to the City of Mobile Animal Services late last year. Cyclists reported seeing a dog in the woods in a rural location over the course of a week. Someone had left food and water for her, and she was emaciated and scared. Animal Control Officers investigated and found her peering at them from behind a tree. I'm scared, she barked at them! They laid in the leaves with her, tossing her treats until she moved closer and closer. Soon, she was tentatively eating food from their hands and they were able to slip a leash on her. Today, she has learned that humans are alright again, through working with our staff. August absolutely loves other dogs! She will play and play with any new canine friend, large or small. She loves toys and treats. She would enjoy a home with other confident playmates who can continue to show her the way. August can be fostered or adopted. This is just one of many animals at the City of Mobile Animal Services.
