Story
Ruby Doo is a Boxer/Heeler mix with a soft spirit and a whole lot of potential. She came to us a little unsure of the world, but every day she opens up more — offering shy tail wags, leaning in for gentle pets, and showing us the goofy, loving pup she’s becoming. Her Boxer side gives her that expressive face and tender heart, while her Heeler side brings the smarts and loyalty that make her such a rewarding companion. Ruby Doo will thrive with someone who understands that confidence grows with patience, routine, and love. She’s ready to bond deeply with her person — the kind of dog who will quietly follow you from room to room and blossom into your most devoted friend. If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2711572##

Story
Meet Aurora! She is a 5 year old boxer/lab mix. She is 55 lbs. In these 5 years she has been an amazing dog. Sadly, my living situation and hours at work have changed and I can’t give her the time and life she deserves. She is house trained, fixed, has all her shots and has enough flea/tick/heartworm medicine till the end of the year. She loves to run around and play but also loves to sit right on your feet and be close. She has only been around 1 kid and did fine. She often will get along with other dogs but she has had issues with some as well. I have found that it depends on how they are introduced. Looking for someone to love her as I do and give her a happy home.

Story
Leo is a vibrant, joyful 2-year-old with a French Bulldog mom—and a dad who remains a bit of a mystery! He’s full of energy, endlessly playful, and has a personality that lights up any room. Leo has always been an apartment dog, but his previous family realized he would thrive in a home where he could have more space to run, play, and burn off all that energy. Leo is incredibly social—he loves everyone he meets and doesn’t know a stranger. He’s always been an only pet and would do best in a home without cats, as he has a strong prey drive. He’s happiest when he has a chance to play and explore, so an active adopter who can give him plenty of attention, walks, and playtime will be ideal. Leo is a true blank canvas when it comes to life skills. He’s never been on a leash, isn’t house trained, and has never been crate trained. He does know how to sit, but he’ll need patient, consistent guidance to help him learn the basics and develop into the well-mannered companion he’s capable of becoming. This energetic, affectionate pup will thrive with a family who can commit to training, structure, and lots of playtime. If you’re ready for a happy, playful, loveable bundle of energy who will keep you laughing and smiling every day, Leo is ready to meet you!

Story
Who’s looking for a super cute bestie? Because this little dude is ready to clock in for the position. Monkey is the kind of pup who believes every dog he meets is simply a friend he hasn’t played with yet. He’s bouncy, playful, and full of happy wiggles, but he’s also a champion cuddler once the zoomies are out of his system. Basically, he’s the whole package—fun, affectionate, and at that perfect age where he’s ready to grow up with his very own person. Monkey is healthy, happy, and ready to start his next adventure. His vaccinations are up to date and he’s been wormed. When he heads home with his new family, he’ll also be microchipped and registered, plus he’ll come with a neuter certificate to be used locally that covers the cost. All that’s missing is the human who realizes their life could use a little more tail wagging and laughter. Fill out an application today and come meet the little guy who might just steal your heart. 🐾

Meet Coach , She is a  very sweet and energetic girl with a funny personality and all she wants is to lay in your lap and give you kisses. We do recommend that she goes to someone that has expericance with the American Bullys because she needs some training with basic commands and how to walk on a leash. She would do better in a home with no other dogs or with slow introductions because she can be rather choosy when it comes to her dog friends. She is ready for her furever home!      ##2711630##

Meet Chrome, He is a 2-3 year old Pit/Lab mix. Hes super friendly and loves to be loved on. He's about 51 lbs of playful energy. He will need some basic command training along with training to walk on a leash. He seems to do okay with female dogs through the fence but he does not like other male dogs. So we belive he would do better with someone that doesnt have any other dogs. He is currently looking for his fur-ever home! ##2714563##

Story
Hi, I’m Cheerio! I came from a really hard place—one of nearly 30 dogs rescued from an abusive and neglectful situation. I was tied to a heavy chain with very little food, and when I arrived here I weighed barely 30 lbs and had sores from sitting in the same spot for too long. I'm a bit picky about other dogs but the shelter recommends multiple meetings with another dog to safely introduce us.  Even with everything I’ve been through, I’m a good boy with so much potential. I’ve been working with a trainer and I respond really well to training. I’m not a big fan of new people at first, but give me a little time (and some treats!) and I’ll be your loyal best friend—I would never turn on my person. I’m protective of the people I love, but deep down I’m a big softy who enjoys kisses, tug-of-war, and going on adventures. I’ve never known what it’s like to have a real home, and I’ve been waiting here for over a year and a half. I know my perfect match may take time, but I’m worth it—and I’m ready for someone who’s willing to give me the life I’ve always deserved. If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment.
