3-year-old Boxer. Bruno is a big, energetic boy with a goofy personality and lots of love to give. He loves playing tug-of-war, destroying squeaky toys, and keeping everyone entertained with his hilarious “crazy eyes” and boxer attitude. His favorite toy is the XL Kong Wubba because it actually survives longer than most toys. He is housebroken, crate-trained, microchipped, and currently up to date on vaccines. He does well with kids, although I’m unsure how he would do around toddlers. Bruno would do best in a home where he is the only dog. He is very dominant and does not typically get along with other dogs. He has a habit of jumping fences, so he will need a secure yard with a tall fence. Despite his stubborn side, he is a really good dog. He sleeps in the bedroom with us every night (usually sprawled out on the floor because he’s too big for the bed).Reach out if you think Bruno might be a good fit for your family.

Leo has always been an apartment dog, but his previous family realized he would thrive in a home where he could have more space to run, play, and burn off all that energy. Leo is incredibly social—he loves everyone he meets and doesn’t know a stranger. He’s always been an only pet and would do best in a home without cats, as he has a strong prey drive. He’s happiest when he has a chance to play and explore, so an active adopter who can give him plenty of attention, walks, and playtime will be ideal. Ruby Doo is a Boxer/Heeler mix with a soft spirit and a whole lot of potential. She came to us a little unsure of the world, but every day she opens up more — offering shy tail wags, leaning in for gentle pets, and showing us the goofy, loving pup she’s becoming. Her Boxer side gives her that expressive face and tender heart, while her Heeler side brings the smarts and loyalty that make her such a rewarding companion. Ruby Doo will thrive with someone who understands that confidence grows with patience, routine, and love. She’s ready to bond deeply with her person — the kind of dog who will quietly follow you from room to room and blossom into your most devoted friend. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! 4-year-old Boxer/Pit Mix. Luna is a sweet, loving girl with a calm personality and lots of affection to give. She absolutely loves attention, giving kisses, and being close to her people. Most of the time, she is pretty laid back, but she still enjoys playing and having fun. She is housebroken, crate-trained, microchipped, and currently up to date on vaccines. Luna walks very well on a leash and listens well. She does good with kids, although I’m unsure how she would do around toddlers. Luna is very protective and would do best as the only dog in the home. She is an alpha/dominant female and does not get along with other dogs. She is also a fence hopper, so she needs a secure yard with a tall privacy fence.
