Story
Rosé is a 5-year-old sweetheart who was recently surrendered to Open Door through no fault of her own. This silly, playful girl is as friendly as they come and is ready to find her new forever family. In her previous home, Rosé lived happily with dogs, cats, and children, so she’s well-practiced at being part of a busy household. She loves to play and has a joyful, goofy personality that’s sure to make you smile. Rosé is also crate trained, which can make transitioning into a new home a little easier. Her former family did share a couple of quirks to keep in mind: Rosé has been known to dig under fences, so she’ll need a secure yard or supervised playtime outside. She also sometimes gets a bit queasy in the car, but with patience and short trips, she may improve over time. If you’re looking for a fun-loving, affectionate companion who’s already experienced with family life, Rosé might just be your perfect match. Come meet her, you won’t be able to resist her charm! She is currently in a foster home while she works on putting on weight, so you will need to set an appointment to see her. If interested, please fill out a preliminary at odas.org/canine and someone will contact you to schedule your visit.

Story
Shark is a sweet boy and a typical boxer pup full of energy and playfulness. He is a very flashy fawn and white, a real show stopper. He does have a grade 2 heart murmur which on the scale is a very much less severe than a higher number.. It may get better as he grows... He is already neutered, up to date on vaccines, heartworm prevention, and flea / tick. Contact us to set up a meet and greet.

Story
Dogs are usually tested with other dogs their size, and we encourage meet-and-greets with your dog before adoption. Cat tests are available if requested, but they only check for clear aggression. Always be careful when introducing dogs to cats. Advice about dogs living with children is based on behavior like energy level and how the dog handles touch. Young children should never be left alone with dogs, and we cannot guarantee how any dog will behave with kids or other pets. Behavior seen in the shelter is just a snapshot and may change in a home. Dogs come from many backgrounds and may need training, time, and patience. Dogs should not be fed together unless you know they do not guard food. We also suggest learning about a dog's breed or mix to be sure it fits your family. Moving to a new home can be stressful for dogs. Use the Rule of 3 to help them adjust: First 3 days: Dogs may feel scared, tired, overexcited, or not want to eat. First 3 weeks: Dogs start learning routines and may show new behaviors. Keep things calm and avoid busy places. First 3 months: Dogs usually feel settled and more comfortable. For more information, visit joplinhumane.org or contact the Joplin Humane Society in Joplin, Missouri at 417-623-3642.
