Story
Meet Chico, a neutered male lab/pit mix that is 2-4 yrs old and weighs 70 lbs.Chico is friendly, but he is very hyper. He knows some commands but will knock people down. He will need work on walking on a leash.Chico is kennel trained but does tear them up if he is left alone too long, as he does have separation anxiety. He has been around children, but due to his high energy, older children would probably be best. He plays with other dogs but tends to get rough so dogs his size would probably be best. He has been around cats and will chase for fun ##2563635##

Story
Why travel the globe when you can find your world right here? We have a stunning litter of puppies named after some of the world’s most iconic cultures, and they are all currently looking for their "home base." These pups are very sweet, full of curiosity, and ready to stamp their passports into your heart. If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2674217##

Story
Hi, I’m Proctor! I came to the shelter with my 11 siblings (yes… all 11 of them!), and we were all black-and-white spotted like little Holstein cows. We arrived when we were just 6 weeks old, and now my brother Gordon and I are the last two still waiting—almost 7 months old and hoping our turn is coming soon. Growing up in a shelter hasn’t been easy, but it hasn’t stopped me from being a great pup. I walk nicely on a leash, know how to sit, and get along wonderfully with other animals and kids. I’m the perfect mix of calm and playful, and all I really want is love, affection, and a place to finally call home. If you're interested in adopting one, please fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve an appointment time. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure the puppy will be available to meet you when you come. Story
Hi, I’m Cheerio! I came from a really hard place—one of nearly 30 dogs rescued from an abusive and neglectful situation. I was tied to a heavy chain with very little food, and when I arrived here I weighed barely 30 lbs and had sores from sitting in the same spot for too long. Because of my past, I need a home with no children or other animals where I can finally feel safe. Even with everything I’ve been through, I’m a good boy with so much potential. I’ve been working with a trainer and I respond really well to training. I’m not a big fan of new people at first, but give me a little time (and some treats!) and I’ll be your loyal best friend—I would never turn on my person. I’m protective of the people I love, but deep down I’m a big softy who enjoys kisses, tug-of-war, and going on adventures. I’ve never known what it’s like to have a real home, and I’ve been waiting here for over a year and a half. I know my perfect match may take time, but I’m worth it—and I’m ready for someone who’s willing to give me the life I’ve always deserved. If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment.
