Benson Is Officially Up For Paw-Role! Benson has officially graduated from our Paws in the Pen program in partnership with the New Mexico Corrections Department and is ready to find his forever home! Each dog in the program is paired with inmate trainers and completes an intensive 8-week training program designed to build a strong foundation for success. Graduates go home potty trained, crate trained, and with a long list of cues and basic behaviors. To help ensure a smooth transition, adopters receive four training sessions to learn everything their dog knows, plus an invitation to weekly discounted drop-in classes. Every Paws in the Pen graduate also goes home with a Biothane leash and collar, six months of heartworm prevention, is fully up to date on vaccines and medications, and is spayed or neutered. If you`re looking for a dog who`s always ready for the next adventure, Benson is your guy. This handsome boxer mix is a big, athletic sweetheart with an even bigger heart. Benson absolutely loves people and never misses an opportunity to soak up attention. One of his favorite hobbies is pretending he weighs about 20 pounds and climbing into your lap for cuddles. He would thrive with an active family who enjoys walks, hikes, road trips, or simply getting outside together. Benson loves having a job, learning new things, and spending time with his people.Throughout his time in Paws in the Pen, Benson has polished his manners, learned new skills, and grown into a well-rounded companion. He`s smart, eager to please, and always excited to work alongside his person.Benson is currently staying with his inmate trainers to keep his training sharp while he waits for his family to find him. Now all he needs is a paw-role plan! A loving home where he can put all of his hard work to good use.Could Benson be your next adventure buddy? Come meet him and help this deserving graduate start the next chapter of his life.

Story
Meet Pepper! Pepper's birthday is December 18th, 2025. She came to us with her siblings and mom when she was 10 days old. Pepper came to us from a hoarding situation, where she and her family didn't have the best start. Her mother was starving and she and her siblings were very weak. But, she had one strong mama, and now we are delighted to report that the whole crew is chubby, happy, and healthy. We've watched Pepper grow into a wonderful young lady. She is incredibly sweet and smart. She does very well with the other dogs, cats, and kids in her foster home. However, Pepper does have some leash and barrier reactivity that has really seemed to hurt her chances of being adopted. All of Pepper's siblings have been adopted into their forever homes for months, but she is still patiently waiting her turn. Due to a history of reactivity that she has worked really hard to get a handle on, we think it's best if Pepper does go to a home with at least 1 other dog. Based on our observations of her behavior in different settings, we think that if she were to be the only dog in her forever home, the manners she has worked so hard to learn would start to fall away and some of that reactivity could return or worsen. Pepper can be shy when meeting new people and dogs, but once she has a moment to warm up, this girl is a wiggly little dream. She has a beautiful smile and she seems to wake up every morning just thrilled to be alive. Pepper loves to bounce, and wrestle, and wiggle all day long. She would make a fantastic companion for a family who can be a little bit patient with her as she settles in. Pepper is potty trained and crate trained, though of course we advise everyone that accidents are usually part of the adjustment process for any dog. Pepper does a great job on leash and we hope her future family is able to continue practicing her skills. She absolutely loves to play tug-of-war, and spends a good chunk of her afternoons playing with her mom (who is also still available for adoption) and her other friends in the yard. We'd also like it noted that this girl very well might be the fastest dog west of the Mississippi - she zooms like there's no tomorrow. If we could bottle her happy energy, well, it would probably end up being illegal. Pepper is spayed, up to date on all of her vaccines and heartworm prevention, and is microchipped. If you have any questions about Pepper, our adoption process, or anything else, please feel free to email Bosque Buddies Animal Rescue at adoption@bbanimalrescue.org or call/text us anytime at 505-333-8980. **All adoptions are at events or by appointment only. ***Please complete an adoption application at: bbanimalrescue.org/adopt

Story
This is Dana. She's a sweet and energetic girl. Dana plays well with my other dogs, but gets too excited with the cats. She's doesn't try to bite them, but she does chase and paw at them which is unpleasant for the cats. She's 1.7 years old and loves belly rubs! She's loyal, protective, and loves attention and pets. She loves walks and is quite good at fetch! She is a fun and loyal companion. She was brought to me at about 6 months old by a previous roommate who has since moved, and was not able to take her with him. I don't want to leave her at an animal shelter, so I've tried to work with her on getting along with the cats, but unfortunately, I haven't been successful. I am now looking for a loving (preferably cat free) home for her.
