I came to CCHS after being found in flood water during Hurricane Florence. I was so skinny and sick, but CCHS nursed me back to health, and now I am strong and handsome! River is our resident superstar. He is a very shy boy but has come a very long way. River would do best in a calm home without small children. He prefers female dogs only. Please visit our website, www.colonialcapitalhs.org to fill out an application today!

Story
Toby is such a sweet and affectionate older gentleman who is full of love and energy despite his age. He is very curious and loves to explore and sniff around, and he is very affectionate and loves to give kisses and be close to his favorite people. Unfortunately Toby would prefer a home without young children. He is very loyal and will be your best friend forever and he is also very funny and always up for a good time or a snuggle session. Toby is a very handsome sweet boy who is 7 years old and fully vetted. He came to the shelter on July 18, 2023 and is excited to meet his new person or family very soon. He loves pup cups and string cheese, and is a volunteer favorite. If you think Toby would be a good fit for your family, please come and meet him today! If you have another dog and are interested in meeting another potential new furry member please bring him or her to the shelter and meet on neutral ground before adopting. No need to shuffle the animals around any more than necessary. Please know that 1 mosquito bite can create heart worms and they can be fatal if not treated. It is VERY important to keep your pets healthy and protected by keeping them on a once a month heart worm and flea/tick prevention. These animals are counting on you as their owner to provide them with lots a love and the proper health care so PLEASE make sure you are aware and prepared before adopting. Owning a pet is an extra expense and responsibility but is so worth every minute and penny you invest in them. They will add lots of joy and unconditional love if given a fair chance. The shelter is open Mon.-Fri. 10-1, 2-5, Sat. 10-4. Adopt a homeless pet and save a life. If you can not adopt right now come out and volunteer and make a difference in the lives of these animals while they await their FOREVER home. In order to adopt any of our "bully breeds" there is special paper work that will need to be collected and approved prior to the adoption. We love all of our dogs and want to make sure to place our "bully babies" in homes best suited for them.

Story
Tanner - a charming and adorable furry friend in need of a loving FOREVER home to call his own! He came into the shelter May 3, 2024 and is now current on his vaccinations. If you're looking for a fun and playful pooch with lots of love to give, look no further. Though he did come in shy and is slowly settling in thanks to the love of the staff and volunteers. Can be very common with nothing familiar to them. Tanner is a friendly and affectionate dog who loves nothing more than showing his loyalty to his special person. He is smart and gentle, and he has a knack for winning over everyone he meets. Tanner is a well-rounded pup who loves kisses and adventures. He is always up for a game of fetch, a nice walk in the park, or a cozy nap on the couch. He is a true charmer and will steal your heart and bring smiles on your face daily. If you're willing to open your heart and home to this special boy, Tanner will be your lifelong companion and best friend. We hope that Tanner finds his forever home soon, where he can continue to spread love and joy to his new family. Story
Meet BoBo, a 3 year old male dog with lots of love to give! While we don't know if he gets along with other dogs, he is super friendly with humans and loves giving kisses once he knows you. He came into the shelter May 13, 2024 when his owner.could no longer keep him. He came in scared, unsure of shelter life, which all is very common but with time and love from volunteers and staff he is settling in better daily. Bobo is 3 years old, current on shots, now neutered, and ready to meet his new person or family. He hopes his stay will be short. You may be the reason for his short stay, Bobo is ready to find his forever home with a loving family. If you're interested in adopting him, please come to the shelter today to meet him!" Story
*Urgent* Due to base policy, I am no longer able to house my dog despite the fact he has lived there 5 years incident free. He got out about a month ago in animal control picked him up. They required that we got a DNA test that test came back with him being 25% pit. We had no prior knowledge of him having pit in him because his two predominant breeds are boxer and husky. We also recently got overseas orders to Spain, which we cannot take him on again due to him being a banned breed. He’s a fantastic family dog; who is wonderful with kids. If you want to add a lovable goofball to your family this is definitely your dog. Our family will miss him deeply.
