Story
Meet Cheese, a one and a half year old Boxer/Pointer mix.Cheese’s story is a tough one for such a young dog. Adopted as a puppy in 2025, he’s unfortunately been returned to the shelter three times. That kind of instability is hard on any dog, and it’s left him with some separation anxiety—but it’s also made one thing very clear: Cheese is ready for a true forever home that will commit to him for life.Despite everything, Cheese is still a happy, outgoing, and delightfully dorky guy. His adorable underbite gives him a constant goofy grin, and his playful personality makes him a joy to be around. He bonds deeply with his people and thrives on connection—he just needs someone who can give him consistency, reassurance, and clear direction.Cheese is a smart pup who already knows “sit” and is very treat motivated, which makes training a great way to build his confidence and strengthen your bond. He’s strong and energetic, so he’ll do best with an adopter who can provide structure, regular exercise, and guidance to help him feel secure.Because of his prey drive, Cheese would do best in a home without cats. What he really needs is someone who understands that he’s been through a lot and is ready to show him what stability and unconditional love look like. He has met other dogs while with us and has done extremely well and could be a good candidate for a home with another dog. If you’re willing to invest in him, Cheese will give you his whole heart—and he’s just waiting for the person who will make sure he never has to come back again. This pet is available for adoption on 4.21.26 at the Yakima Humane Society adoption center. Story
Meet Shirley, a three year old Boxer/Mastiff weighing 70 pounds.Shirley is a gorgeous brindle girl with a heart as big as she is! This beautiful pup was found alongside another dog and, although she has a microchip, we were unfortunately unable to reach her owner. Her adorable docked tail never stops wagging, and she`s always ready for an adventure. She`s a big, strong girl with plenty of energy, making her an excellent companion for an active family who enjoys walks, hikes, playtime, and exploring together.Because Shirley is athletic and clever, she`ll need a secure yard and should not be left outside unattended. Story
Toby: The Little Tank That Could... and Did! Forever home after July 10th Toby is a resilient young pup who arrived with a broken back leg. Thanks to the incredible care of our veterinary team, they repaired it with a few screws, and now he's healing beautifully! This amazing little puppy loves being with his people and has a big personality. Toby doesn't seem to realize he's still recovering, so he'll need to stick to short walks and controlled playtime for a couple more months to ensure his leg continues to heal properly. Toby would do best in a home with older children who understand how to be gentle with him during his recovery. He'd also enjoy having an older dog companion who likes to play but isn't overly rough or likely to chase him. Toby has already overcome so much and is ready to find a loving family to cheer him on through the rest of his recovery. In return, he'll reward you with endless love, companionship, and plenty of puppy charm.
