Story
Meet Cheese, a one and a half year old Boxer/Pointer mix.Cheese’s story is a tough one for such a young dog. Adopted as a puppy in 2025, he’s unfortunately been returned to the shelter three times. That kind of instability is hard on any dog, and it’s left him with some separation anxiety—but it’s also made one thing very clear: Cheese is ready for a true forever home that will commit to him for life.Despite everything, Cheese is still a happy, outgoing, and delightfully dorky guy. His adorable underbite gives him a constant goofy grin, and his playful personality makes him a joy to be around. He bonds deeply with his people and thrives on connection—he just needs someone who can give him consistency, reassurance, and clear direction.Cheese is a smart pup who already knows “sit” and is very treat motivated, which makes training a great way to build his confidence and strengthen your bond. He’s strong and energetic, so he’ll do best with an adopter who can provide structure, regular exercise, and guidance to help him feel secure.Because of his prey drive, Cheese would do best in a home without cats. What he really needs is someone who understands that he’s been through a lot and is ready to show him what stability and unconditional love look like.If you’re willing to invest in him, Cheese will give you his whole heart—and he’s just waiting for the person who will make sure he never has to come back again. This pet is available for adoption on 4.21.26 at the Yakima Humane Society adoption center. Story
Meet Richard, a three-year-old Pit mix weighing 60 pounds. When Richard first arrived, the world felt like a pretty scary place to him. He was very nervous and unsure, but with time, patience, and kindness, he has warmed up so much and is starting to show his true personality.Richard can still be a bit of a scaredy-cat in new situations, but once he feels safe, he turns into an absolute sweetheart. He’s playful, bouncy, and has a wonderfully silly side that starts to shine through the more comfortable he gets. He also loves giving kisses and being close to his people. It almost feels like Richard is still learning how to be a dog—discovering toys, playtime, and just how fun life can be. Watching him gain confidence and enjoy the little things is incredibly rewarding.Richard would do best with a patient family who will give him the time and encouragement he needs to keep building confidence. In return, you’ll get a loving, goofy companion who will make every milestone feel special. This pet is available for adoption on 2/28/2026 at 2:23 PM at the Yakima Humane Society adoption center. Story
Meet Ralph, a five year old Bulldog mix weighing 75 pounds.Ralph is a lovable goofball with the sweetest big eyes and a heart that’s ready for a fresh start. He was recently owner surrendered due to changes in his owner’s housing situation, and while that’s been a big adjustment, Ralph is handling it like a champ. When he first arrived, he was a little unsure—but it didn’t take long for his personality to shine. Now he’s opened up so much and is showing us just how fun and affectionate he can be. He’s a strong boy who already knows how to “sit,” and he’s always ready to bring a smile to your face with his goofy charm. As a Bulldog-type pup, Ralph is likely to be loyal, people-loving, and full of personality. While some Bulldogs are known for being couch potatoes, Ralph breaks the mold—he actually loves his walks and is always up for getting out and about with his people! ??Ralph may not have had the easiest road lately, but he deserves nothing but the best from here on out—a home where he can feel safe, loved, and truly part of the family. If you’re looking for a loyal companion with a big heart (and an even bigger personality), Ralph might be your perfect match. This pet is available for adoption at the Yakima Humane Society adoption center.
