Story
Meet Birch, a five and a half year old male Pit Bull mix.Birch got his name because he was dumped at the shelter location on Birchfield road. When staff was out feeding the feral lot cats, Birch limped right up for pets. He didn't seem to mind the cats and showed zero interest in chasing them at that time. Once Birch got some attention he followed shelter staff straight in the back door. Birch is a very handsome boy with a solid 65 pound build. His history is unknown but he was limping when he was found d and has a scar on one leg too. Birch is a happy boy and very strong on the leash so leash manners would be good for him to learn. He is extremely food motivated and training should be pretty easy because of it, he already knows "sit", "shake", and "down". Birch has been with us since October 2023 so when he first gets out he has a good amount of energy, but give him a 5-10 minute walk and he will settle in for some good pets and belly rubs. Birch loves human attention and is hoping to find a home to call his own that has lots of love and treats! If you are interested in adopting this pet please fill out an adoption questionnaire at www.yakimahumane.org. A Yakima Humane Society staff member will contact you once your questionnaire has been processed. Adopters are welcome to visit the adoption center Monday-Saturday. A Picture says 1000 words...right? While an animal's picture draws interest, the reality is that as a potential adopter most people would like as much information as possible about a pet. The Yakima Humane Society is an open admission shelter. What does this mean? Over 90% of the pets at the adoption center arrive as strays, no history of behavior or medical care is known. Adding a pet to your family is a big responsibility. Please research carefully and remember that adoption is life saving. Adopt Don't Shop.

Story
Meet Kenny, a 1-year-old male Pit Bull mix.Kenny is such a fun boy! He loves to get attention and is super cute. Kenny is a littler derpy but in the best way. He hasn't had a lot of training and is strong so will need a handler that can teach him not to pull on his leash. Kenny loved the photographers squeaky toy and was super cute out in the snow for his pictures. This pet is available for adoption at the Yakima Humane Society adoption center. Story
Meet Porter, a 3 year old Pitbull mix. This guy was brought to us by City of Yakima animal control as he was making his way around town. He has a higher energy level than some other Pitbulls we have but would make an excellent partner for a semi-active person. The way to this boy's heart is through belly rubs, he adores them. Porter is still working on some of his basic commands like "off", he just gets excited sometimes and forgets his manners; due to this we recommend a home without super young kids he may knock over. However, give him a bit of training and life out of a kennel environment and we see him being amazing with any aged kids down the road. He has a lot of strength in those muscles and although he pulls on his leash he doesn't absolutely yank you off your feet so we see him picking up leash training in a flash. Porter loves to play in the grass, he rolls over on his back and runs against the grass which he thinks is absolutely sublime. Staff notes that he is excited and inquisitive about other dogs but also a bit nervous when meeting some of them. He met another dog, Landon, in the play yard and got along with him but they were happy doing their own things and didn't really play. We do still recommend a meet and greet if you have another dog in the home to make sure everyone gets along prior to adoption. As always we also recommend crate training and keeping the dog separated when eating and when not under supervision when you get them home at first.
