Story
This is Harper and she is a green flag of good decisions! Her slightly pouty little overbite, bright, thoughtful eyes and amazingly upbeat, well-balanced nature has us all collectively smitten. She’s estimated to be about 6 months old, currently weighs 35 lbs, and looks like she may have a sprinkle of bull terrier in her genes, mostly in that darling nose and the tiniest toothy smirk. As always, rescue rules apply so breed and birthday are our best guess. What isn’t a guess? Harper is the kind of puppy people quietly hope for. The easy one. The golden one. The “how did we get so lucky?” one. Want to see this honey-hearted girl in motion? Head to YouTube and then come right back to read about the sweetness behind the smile. https://youtu.be/uLqqWBKFy0o Harper lives by a simple philosophy: be joyful, be gentle, be ready. And she nails it. She has been fostered in a home where she was described as “perfect” and “such an easy addition.” House trained, crate trained, calm in routine, and she knows when it’s playtime and when it’s couch-time. That kind of off-switch at six months old? Unicorn of a chef’s kiss. In play groups, Harper shines! She’s so even-tempered and socially savvy that she has yet to meet a set of dogs or social scene she cannot navigate perfectly. She greets with that classic puppy bounce, a little slappy-happy enthusiasm on leash and off, but she’s never overwhelming. Other dogs tolerate her beautifully, and when they correct her, she takes it with grace and adjusts. No drama. No ego. Just, “Got it, friend.” We were especially impressed with her confidence and ability to be respected when she met our very playful, large great dane who plays physically and doesn’t waste a moment of time. She met him with a playful confidence he immediately respected and she help her own beautifully! When she had her fill and needed a break she was perfectly happy to pull away to go lay down in the shade for a break. Needless to say, we are all impressed with everything about her! She doesn’t pester. She doesn’t obsess. She can wander off to sniff, explore, and then circle back in like a polite little social butterfly. Inside the home, she coexists beautifully, like she’s been doing it forever. She shared space with our house cat Biggie, played when he was interested, and when he decided he was done and hopped up to nap, she respected it immediately. No chasing. No pestering. Just settled down and hung out with her people instead. Apartment? She’d do fine. Busy home with kids? Absolutely. Older couple looking for a companion? Perfect match. First-time dog owners? She’s the confidence booster you didn’t know you needed.Though she may convince you dogs are easy and you need more. We take no blame if this happens but we will be here to help. Harper Honeybee Halo is that rare puppy who feels solid already. Playful without being wild. Sweet without being clingy. Confident without being pushy. She’s ready. If you’ve been waiting for a puppy who feels less like chaos and more like calm sunshine with a bounce… this is your girl! Apply today and welcome Harper hope! She’s going to make someone’s life very, very lovely, hopefully it is you! Apply here! https://adopt.animalsfirst.com/animal/62cc8e128b02916730334440/691b3fc266288ed5930775c8 Questions? Beyond her physical strength, Petunia is a model of good behavior. House trained and affectionate, she revels in pets, cuddles, and the pure bliss of tummy rubs. Petunia's journey from a field to a loving home is a testament to her resilience, and she serves as an inspiration to all who cross her path. Story
This dog is in Tennessee. Adoption Donation FREE if picked up in TN, $175 plus transport fee for out-of-state adoptions. Mei is the kind of dog who bounces into your day with pure joy and a big smile that makes everything feel lighter. She is a happy-go-lucky sweetheart with a playful spark, the perfect mix of medium-high energy when the toys come out and soft cuddles when she’s ready to settle in. She is a natural comedian. Mei gives full body hugs, showers you with kisses and chases her toys with so much enthusiasm that she sometimes tosses them for herself. At about 2 years old and 45 pounds, she is a charming mystery mix with perky ears, a chocolate and tan coat and a stocky little frame that only adds to her character. She might have a hint of Doberman, maybe some Australian Kelpie and some Pit Bull Terrier. Mei already knows how to sit for a treat and she learns quickly. She is doing well with housetraining when kept on a routine and she trots happily into her crate for a treat, settling after a little whine. She loves to zoom around the yard and will play fetch for as long as you want. If you love watching a dog light up with pure joy, she is your girl. Mei does have food allergies and needs to stay on a hydrolyzed protein prescription diet. When she arrived she had no fur and was miserable, but with proper care she has blossomed into a shiny, happy pup. She will need to stay on her special diet to keep feeling her best. She gets along well with friendly, submissive dogs, seems neutral with cats and enjoys every person she meets. She rides well in the car and would benefit from a fenced yard where she can stretch her legs and enjoy her zoomies. After a tough start in life, Mei is more than ready for the fairy tale ending she deserves. If you think you might be her match, reach out to us for more information.  Interested in adopting? Take the first step and complete an adoption application on our website: http://aarf-tn.com/adopt/adoption-apps/ If you have questions that are not covered in the profile, visit the Pet Inquiry Form: http://aarf-tn.com/contact/pet-inquiry-form/. Story
OTHER PETS: Checkers was a bit awkward with the other dogs she's met at TJO, but she did initiate some play! She has a bit of a pushy play style, but was also wary of a dog that was more pushy with her. She would likely do best in the home with a dog that can match her energy and play style, while also knowing when to settle separately. [Case-By-Case (Must Meet First)]OWNER EXPERIENCE: Checkers has been found to have hyperthyroidism and would do best with someone that has an established relationship with their own primary veterinarian. [Some Experience]KIDS: While Checkers has a good energy level, she has moments where she can get excited and may jump up or run into someone's legs, and can also be intense about her food. She would likely do best with kids that are old enough to understand how to interact with her and when to let her have her own space. [10+ / Dog Savvy (Must Meet First)]ACTIVITY LEVEL: Checkers has a good level of energy outside the kennel, being happy to chase some toys and then settle on her own when she's done. She would likely be a good companion for walks around the neighborhood, though like many dogs she does tend to pull on the leash when she's excited about where she's going. She would do great with various types of both mental and physical enrichment, and will likely be a great hiking partner with further positive reinforcement training! [Good Walking Buddy]VETERINARY CARE: Checkers has the possibility of having hypothyroidism, as her T4 levels were below range, and will need a good relationship with an established vet to ensure that she remains healthy and happy. [Above Average]LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Checkers is still at the beginning of her positive training journey, and will do best learning with someone who can offer patience while she adjusts. Positive reinforcement training will help Checkers not only learn her basic cues & skills, but also help her to bond with her new owner. [Moderate]GROOMING: Routine brushing will help to minimize shedding in the home. [Minimal]February 28, 2026, 3:38 pm

Story
This gentle old man still has some pep in his step & enjoys being playful when the mood strikes him. He does not like his skin tags being touched, he would NOT be a good fit for a home with young children.OTHER PETS: Diné is comfortable and independent around other dogs, without much interest in play. He would likely get along with other relaxed dogs that do not have much interst in play. Diné should meet any dog he would be living with prior to adoption. [Likely (Must Meet First)] OWNER EXPERIENCE: Someone experienced with positive reinforcement, and dogs in general, would be best for Diné; he will need someone who can monitor him and ensure he does not over exhert himself while doing fun things. [Some Experience] KIDS: Diné is social and enjoys interacting with humans, but he also enjoys his quiet time. He would best fit with a moderately active to quiet home where he has his own place to relax and has humans who will respect his boundaries during quiet time. [13+ / Dog Savvy (Must Meet First)]ACTIVITY LEVEL: Diné is currently going through acceptance phase of aging, sometimes he forgets that he can't be as zoomie as he used to and boy does he get going - but he gets tired pretty quick. Engaging in lower impact activity (walking vs off leash running for example) will allow him to stay active for longer periods of time but care needs to be taken to ensure he doesn't push himself too hard. Regular, appropriate exercise combined with mental enrichment such as food puzzles and games will help meet his needs. [Couch Potato / Good Walking Buddy] VETERINARY CARE: Senior dogs need a good relationship with their vet to ensure they are monitored appropriately to support healthy aging. Staying on top of any potentially harmful masses is important for his future health. It is important to note that Diné is uncomfortable with restraint during exam and may benefit from fear free practices or medication to help him relax beforehand. [Above Average] LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement training will help Diné bond with his new owner as he continues to learn life skills and fun tricks while building confidence.
