We look forward to hearing from you. Clementine was returned to the rescue because her mom fell sick and passed away. She was the only dog at her house but wasn’t sure what to think about multiple dogs. At the time her foster mom had 2 puppies in a pen. Clementine felt safe with them and learned she was safe. The puppies showed her the way. Clementine learned how to go out the dog door and to play. From there she has grown in confidence.. she now likes to come up and ask for kisses and hugs. Clementine loves to play with the big dogs now but still not sure when you chase after her. She is your alarm system she likes to let you know someone is outside. She is not sure of strangers coming in but once she feels comfortable with them she comes up to see them and smell them… she is a sweet girl and would love to have her forever home.

Story
Give a big warm welcome to sweet, gentle Lilly, a darling 6-year-old Boxer/Mixed Breed lady who needs a new forever home and family to care for her and love her the rest of her days.Lilly and her son Onyx (also with Dog Star rescue) came into rescue as an owner surrender due to family challenges. Lilly and Onyx had been together for many years where they would eat, sleep and play together. Lilly is at the small end of a big dog (61-90 pounds) as she weights around 60 pounds. She is house trained and knows her sit command. She is a gentle and affectionate companion for children and dogs with a low energylevel. It is not known whether Lilly is comfortable around cats. Lilly is working on her leash training and although she is house trained, she will need time to adjust to a new home and routine, so accidents should be expected. She has also mastered her crate training so she knows how to be the ideal house mate while resting in her crate.Lilly did not ask to be surrendered to search for a new home and family, but she will be forever grateful when she lands on her feet with folks who open their hearts and home to a most deserving, gentle lady.* When considering adoption, keep in mind that dogs thrive on structure and routine. They adjust much better when their owners are committed to providing consistency and stability. The adoption fee for Lilly is $500. That includes the cost of spaying/neutering, up to date vaccinations, foster care, rescue and transportation fees. To get the ball rolling, head over to our Adoption Application and submit your application today. A Dog Star representative will contact you within 24 hours. To speed up the process, contact your vet and give them permission to speak with us.If you do not get a response within 24 hours, check your spam folder.February 17, 2026, 6:25 am

Meet Jax! An eight-year-old Boxer mix who is ready to travel anywhere for his forever family! Weighing in at a solid 70 pounds, Jax might just think he's a lap dog with his affectionate, sloppy kisses and an unwavering desire to be close to his humans. Imagine this gentle giant curled at your feet, or better yet, joining in a lively game of keep-away with gleeful children. His joy is palpable, especially when he performs his signature "jumping jax" at the mere mention of a walk! Jax has a heart full of resilience and love, ready to bring warmth to any family. Though he prefers not to be left alone for long, he’s a perfect companion when around other dogs he knows or people—even if just in another room. He adores the great outdoors, and his enthusiasm shines during playdates and adventures at the local dog park. He’s sociable with dogs of all sizes, though his recall may need a little polish—Jax is ever curious about the wildlife he encounters! Living with Jax means embracing his high-energy spirit and managing his sensitive stomach with the right diet. An enclosed yard, constant companionship, and a routine filled with walks and playtime would ensure his days are as joyful as he is. Does your home have room for a big-hearted boxer mix with a love for life? Could you be the one to keep Jax's tail wagging happily ever after? If so, please contact us at adopt@joyfulpets.com, and let's chat about the joy Jax can bring into your life! Story
Meet Hayley! A spirited ten-year-old Boxer/American Staffordshire Terrier mix currently living in Richmond, VA, whose essence is a warm embrace wrapped in a fawn coat with charming white accents. Hayley is a tender-hearted girl with an endless supply of love to give! At 35 pounds, she is the perfect medium-sized companion who believes that laps exist purely for her snuggles. She thrives on physical affection and will nuzzle your hands, curl into your side, or rest her head in your lap as if to say, “You’re my entire world.” Her daily joy comes from playing with stuffed toys and chasing after balls, followed by a cozy nap near her favorite human. She knows many commands including sit, lay down, stay, leave it, wait, stand, paw, and drop it. Her intelligence and eagerness to please make her training sessions filled with quiet pride and mutual trust. Though she hasn’t had formal obedience classes, she learns quickly with positive reinforcement and would love a guardian who continues nurturing her gentle mind. Hayley’s sensitive side means she seeks a calm, predictable home. Loud noises, crowded environments, or unexpected touches can make her anxious, and she may offer a warning yip or gentle nip to communicate when she feels overwhelmed. She has never bitten anyone but benefits deeply from guardians who respect her boundaries and understand her body language. She is especially tender about her paws and eats a lamb-based sensitive skin diet to keep her feeling comfortable and itch-free. When it comes to furry friends, Hayley prefers being the only pet. She has shown reactivity to unfamiliar dogs and is selective with cats, sometimes ignoring them, other times reacting based on their energy. Her ideal home would be a peaceful haven with no other animals, no young children, and guardians who cherish quiet walks, routine snuggles, and serene evenings watching the sun set together. Reach out today at adopt@joyfulpets.com to learn how this deeply affectionate girl could become your loyal companion and best friend!

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Diamond is a 3 year old pit bull who was sadly surrendered when her owner’s landlord would not allow her breed. Her former owner describes her as well-mannered, calm, loving, affectionate, and eager to please — and she truly lives up to that. Diamond is incredibly friendly with people and has a way of forming a special bond with her person, while still happily soaking up attention from anyone willing to give it. In the home, Diamond is house trained and knows how to settle nicely. She has done well meeting both toddlers and older kids, though she has not lived with children full time. She has also lived with cats; while she can coexist with them, she may be a bit pushy if she’s trying to get attention from her owner. She thrives on human connection and loves being close to her people. When it comes to other dogs, Diamond can be selective about her friends, so we will do meet-and-greets to make sure it’s the right match. With the right introductions and environment, she is a loyal and devoted companion who is ready to be someone’s very best girl once again. Ready to Adopt? Pit Bull Terrier

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Johnny was very happy that some kind human let TJO know that he needed help, and he was very thankful that the animal control officers had a nice warm vehicle for him to ride in on the way to safety. Once he had a comfy bed, a full belly, and some butt scratches he was ready to show everyone how goofy and loveable he can be. OTHER PETS: Johnny was disinterested in similarly sized dogs and has a high prey drive so he would not be a good fit to live with cats or small dogs. He would prefer to be an only dog but would be open to meeting a relaxed dog with a similar `live and let live` attitude. [Case by Case (No Cats or Small Dogs!)] OWNER EXPERIENCE: Johnny currently does not walk very well on a leash; his best fit would be with someone with experience with positive reinforcement (or willingness to learn) to teach new skills, and a guardian who is strong enough to keep him safe. [Some Experience] KIDS: Johnny is a social, outgoing dog who enjoys interacting with humans and playing with toys. He has not engaged in resource-guarding while at TJO, and would likely get along with most humans. While Johnny is friendly, he may not be a good match for small humans who might get knocked over by his enthusiastic wiggles. Any minors who would be living with him should meet Johnny prior to adoption. [10+ / Dog Savvy (Must Meet First)]ACTIVITY LEVEL: Johnny will need a good blend of exercise and playtime combined with mental enrichment such as puzzle toys and games to fully meet his needs. [Good Walking Buddy / Olympic Athlete]VETERINARY CARE: [Routine] GROOMING: [Minimal]LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement training will help Johnny bond with his new owner while learning new skills and fun tricks. Johnny is a strong puller while walking on the leash and will need support and positive reinforcement to help him learn loose leash skills. [Moderate]February 10, 2026, 3:21 pm

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Gerdie is a super sweet older girl who still has a good amount of spunk! She absolutely loves to play, though she's still working on bringing toys back to continue the game of fetch. Her favorites so far seem to be squeaky toys and balls, though she's open to new options.OTHER PETS: Gerdie was relaxed when meeting another dog, but she didn't show a lot of interest in playing. She would likely do best with another relaxed dog that can understand when to let her have her own space in the home. [Case-By-Case (Must Meet First)]OWNER EXPERIENCE: Gerdie is prone to pulling on the leash when she's excited, and as a bigger dog will do best with someone that can be capable of handling her, as well as experience with positive reinforcement or the willingness to learn. [First Dog]KIDS: Gerdie has been tolerant of handling and hasn't shown any signs of resource guarding during her time at TJO, but she is an older lady and doesn't always appreciate feeling restrained or confined. She would do best with kids that are old enough to understand how to interact with her and when to let her have her own space. [10+ / Dog Savvy (Must Meet First)]ACTIVITY LEVEL: While Gerdie appreciates a good long nap on the couch as much as anybody, she loves going on walks and playing with a variety of toys. She would be a great walking buddy for trips around the block, and will thrive with various types of mental enrichment to fully meet her needs. [Good Walking Buddy]VETERINARY CARE: While Gerdie currently needs to work on losing a few pounds, she is otherwise currently in good health. As an older dog, she will need a good relationship with a vet to ensure that she continues to age gracefully into her golden years and remains comfortable. [Routine]LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: While Gerdie already seems to know a few tricks, positive reinforcement training will help Gerdie to brush up on her basic cues & skills, as well as help her bond with her new owner. [Minimal]GROOMING: Routine brushing will help to minimize shedding in the home. [Minimal]February 11, 2026, 11:02 am
