A spirited two-and-a-half-year-old Boxer/American Pitbull Terrier mix currently in Tinton Falls, NJ, whose essence is a vibrant burst of joy wrapped in a sleek black coat with striking white accents. At around 55 pounds, Spade is a medium-sized charmer who has mastered the art of being both a playful goofball and an affectionate constant companion. If he had his way, he would spend every day curled up as close to his favorite people as possible! Whether he is soaking up sunshine in the yard, roughhousing with enthusiasm, or snuggling beneath a blanket, Spade approaches life with his whole heart. One of his most endearing quirks is his nightly blanket routine. He loves wiggling and burrowing until he creates the perfect cozy nest for sleep. He is also a huge fan of rump scratches and responds with an adorable full-body dance when you find just the right spot! Crinkle toys and interactive toys keep him entertained, and he enjoys car rides, swimming adventures, and plenty of outdoor enrichment in a fully fenced yard. Squeakers arrived at TJO severely emaciated, but with no shortage of love to give. She has been nothing but sweet and excited to meet every new person she sees. As with any puppy, though, she has quite a bit of youthful energy and a lot to learn about how to live in a home.OTHER PETS: Squeakers was interested in meeting other dogs, but can be anxious if they're too forward or pushy. She would likely do well in a home with a relaxed, well-socialized dog with the patience for a yongster. [Case-By-Case (Must Meet First)]OWNER EXPERIENCE: Squeakers is still currently on a refeeding plan to help her regain some weight, and has some anatomical oddities in her back legs that will likely require a good relationship with a vet throughout her life. She hasn't been the most enthusiastic about playing, but she always enjoys hanging around and relaxing with her favorite people. (Even if shes too big for your lap she will still attempt it) She does enjoy her time outside, but will often refuse to venture too far if she feels it's too hot. Even though she's quite good at self-regulating, she will still need to be monitored closely to ensure she does not overheat. Mild, appropriate exercise combined with mental enrichment such as food puzzles and games will help fully meet her needs. [Couch Potato] VETERINARY CARE: Brachycephalic dogs have a greater likelihood of developing breathing difficulties over the course of their life, they are also more apt to overheat in hot weather and are prone to eye infections. **Bertha is very sensitive to heat and will need to be supervised outside for short periods at a time** Care needs to be taken to ensure that their wrinkles are cleaned-- neglected wrinkles can become irritated or infected, and skin irritation spreads quickly throughout their body. A strong relationship with a vet is recommended to ensure that Bertha ages gracefully. [Above Average / Intense]GROOMING: Bertha, like any bulldog, will need her wrinkles cleaned routinely, as neglected wrinkles can become irritated or infection. Bertha may also do well with a professional groomer in order to keep her comfortable and clean.
