Meet Landon! - adoption application found here, www.outriderdogsrescue.com/adoption-application Landon is an 8 week old male Boxer/Lab X. We estimate he will be a typical Boxer size of 60lbs +. Landon is such a good boy, being fostered with many other dogs and young kids and is a great travel, take along with you companion. He is incredibly smart and doing great with potty and crate training! He is such a snuggle baby, loves to rough house play and then take a mean nap. He is going to make a family very happy! Landon is working on crate and obedience training but we always recommend further training upon adoption with pups this age. Landon is neutered, on schedule with his puppy vaccinations, microchipped and dewormed. If you are interested in adopting Landon, please fill out an application on our website, listed at the beginning of this bio. Thank you for choosing adoption! Outrider Dogs Rescue

Story
Meet Jax! An eight-year-old Boxer mix who is ready to travel anywhere for his forever family! Weighing in at a solid 70 pounds, Jax might just think he's a lap dog with his affectionate, sloppy kisses and an unwavering desire to be close to his humans. Imagine this gentle giant curled at your feet, or better yet, joining in a lively game of keep-away with gleeful children. His joy is palpable, especially when he performs his signature "jumping jax" at the mere mention of a walk! Jax has a heart full of resilience and love, ready to bring warmth to any family. Though he prefers not to be left alone for long, he’s a perfect companion when around other dogs he knows or people—even if just in another room. He adores the great outdoors, and his enthusiasm shines during playdates and adventures at the local dog park. He’s sociable with dogs of all sizes, though his recall may need a little polish—Jax is ever curious about the wildlife he encounters! Living with Jax means embracing his high-energy spirit and managing his sensitive stomach with the right diet. An enclosed yard, constant companionship, and a routine filled with walks and playtime would ensure his days are as joyful as he is. Does your home have room for a big-hearted boxer mix with a love for life? Could you be the one to keep Jax's tail wagging happily ever after? If so, please contact us at adopt@joyfulpets.com, and let's chat about the joy Jax can bring into your life! Also, Jax is open to a long-distance adoption—love knows no distance when finding your perfect companion!

Story
Zeus is a 1-year-old Pit Bull who is looking for a very specific type of home. He is a high-energy, high-intensity adolescent dog who currently has zero manners and loves to play hard and rough. Zeus isn't a turn-key dog; in fact, he's more like a runaway freight train covered in fur. He needs an experienced, savvy handler who thrives on structure, consistent positive-reinforcement training, and setting clear boundaries to help him channel his big, chaotic teenage energy. 🚫 Adults-Only Home: Because of his intense, wrecking-ball play style, he needs a mature environment without kids (we do not want your toddlers used as bowling pins). 🐾 No Other Pets: Zeus firmly believes he is the center of the universe and refuses to share the spotlight with other dogs. 🛠️ A Project: He skipped every single day of manners school, so his basic training is starting from absolute square one. 🧠 Structure & Training: He requires a dedicated owner who will focus on teaching him that "stop" is a real word and that humans are not chew toys. If you have the time, patience, and dog skills to mold a wild teenager into a civilized companion, come meet Zeus today! Ready to Adopt? You have two options: #1- VISIT IN PERSON Come during our open adoption hours: Tuesday - Saturday,12:30 - 3:00pm. You’ll be able to meet available dogs in the shelter. (Dogs in foster care are available to meet by appointment.) #2- ADOPT REMOTELY OR PLACE A 24-HOUR HOLD** If you’re ready to adopt without meeting the dog first, or you’d like to place a non-refundable $25 hold to reserve a dog for 24 hours, just call or email us: (413) 781-4000 x 1 springfield@dakinhumane.org. Spayed or Neutered,
Story
IN FOSTERPeter was a bit underweight and nervous when he first came to TJO but after a good night's sleep and a few days of regular, nutritious meals, he was feeling a little better and a little braver. Since being in foster, Peter is at a perfect weight, and during his time in the shelter he made friends with staff and volunteers and quickly became a shelter favorite.OTHER PETS: Peter is mostly disinterested in other dogs but when uncomfortable will get irritated across the barrier with another dog. He would do well as an only pet. [Only Pet] OWNER EXPERIENCE: [First Dog] Experience with positive reinforcement or willingness to learn. Peter is pretty easy-going and enjoys the company of a human friend, some playtime, and opportunities to rest on a soft bed. Peter does not love giving up his toys, so to help him feel confident, trading up (with another toy or high value treat) is a a safer way to remove toys and will help him worry less about losing high value items. Since Peter has been in foster, we've learned that he prefers company during the day whenever possible, and needs more frequent outings to help is aging bladder. KIDS: Peter has been uncomfortable with some handling but tolerant of it, he does solicit physical interaction but arthritis makes him sore. He can be a little grabby with toys, unintentionally brushing teeth against fingers or knuckles when giving/taking toys; Peter would not be a good fit for younger children and should meet everyone he would be living with prior to adoption. Minors should always be actively supervised. [13+ (Must Meet First)]ACTIVITY LEVEL: Peter still enjoys being active but too much walking could aggravate his arthritis; he enjoys playing with humans and toys, sometimes getting grabby with toys and fixating on them occasionally. Peter would do well with a variety of mental enrichment activities - a combination of physical activity and mental stimulation will help meet his needs and keep him young; you can also speak with your vet about diet and exercise/physical therapy referals. [Good Yoga Buddy] VETERINARY CARE: Peter will need a good relationship with a vet to ensure his arthritis and seasonal allergies are optimally managed and he is able to remain active well into old age. [Above Average] LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement training will help Peter bond with his new owner, build self-confidence, and new skills and fun tricks. Positive reinforcement is a great way to keep his mind engaged and active to fully meet his needs. [Minimal]GROOMING: [Minimal]July 2, 2026, 3:32 pm

BERTHA

American Bulldog Pug

Female, Senior
Springfield, MA
Size
(when grown) Large 61-100 lbs (28-45 kg)
Details
Spayed or Neutered,
Story
OTHER PETS: Bertha is not intersted in other dogs, she becomes nervous and avoids ongoing interaction or chooses to ignore others and do her own thing when out in the world on a leash. Bertha would enjoy being an only dog but we are open to the possibility that she may enjoy living with dog(s) of similar independence. [Case by Case (Must Meet First)]OWNER EXPERIENCE: Bertha is VERY sensitive to heat, she will have seizures if her body temp gets too high. While vigilance is the best prevention, this is a high stress world and sometimes things go sideways. Bertha's best fit would be with someone who has experience with positive reinforcement, and caring for a dog with a medical issue that can be scary. [Very Experienced] GROOMING: [Minimal]KIDS: Bertha is comfortable with most handling and interacting but has engaged in mild resource guarding with high value possessions like bones or jerky and could resource guard food at mealtime. Removing items from any dog can be risky even without signs of resource guarding, but when a dog resource guards prized possessions the safest thing to do is 'trade up' with an item of equal or higher value. This helps build confidence around favorite itmes while keeping everyone safe. We want Bertha to be set up for success so her human family members should be old enough to understand how to interact with her safely. [15+ / Dog Savvy (Must Meet First)]ACTIVITY LEVEL: Bertha is an independent girl who enjoys relaxing and exploring when it isn't too hot outside; she is comfortable interacting with humans but hasn't been very playful while at TJO. Bertha enjoys time outside but needs to be monitored closely to ensure she does not overheat - enthusiasm around toys can be developed, a combination of regular/appropriate exercise and mental enrichment such as food puzzles, scent games, and new tricks will help meet her needs. [Couch Potato] VETERINARY CARE: Brachycephalic dogs have a greater likelihood of developing breathing difficulties over the course of their life, they are also more apt to overheat in hot weather and are prone to eye infections. **Bertha is very sensitive to heat, she will have seizures if she is not kept in an air conditioned environment during high temperatures** Care needs to be taken to ensure that their wrinkles are cleaned, neglected wrinkles can become irritated or infected, and skin irritation spreads quickly throughout their body. A strong relationship with a vet is recommended to ensure that Bertha ages gracefully. [Above Average / Intense]LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement training will help Bertha bond with her new owner, build confidence, and learn new skills and fun tricks.
