Story
Meet Willow — A Sweet, Sensitive Soul Ready to Bloom Willow is a 1.5-year-old, 10-pound white terrier mix with a heart full of love and a playful spirit just waiting to shine. Though timid at first and easily overwhelmed by busy or loud environments, once she feels safe and bonded, she blossoms into a snuggly, affectionate companion who will excitedly jump up for attention and melt into your arms. Her silly and confident side truly comes out when she's with other dogs — she absolutely thrives in the company of playful canine friends. Willow has a strong need to play and would do best in a home with a well-matched, active dog companion and a secure yard where they can run and romp together. She’s dog-door potty trained and enjoys the independence to go outside to play as she pleases. Willow also rides well in the car using a booster seat and walks nicely on leash, especially when she has another dog to follow. Because she can be fearful of children, Willow is best suited for an adult-only home. While she hasn’t lived with cats, we have no reason to believe she wouldn’t do fine with a calm feline friend. Willow will need an adopter who is experienced with nurturing shy or sensitive dogs. Patience, empathy, and positive reinforcement will be essential. A clear post-adoption transition plan tailored to her needs — including time to decompress, daily structure, mental enrichment, and continued socialization — will set her up for success. If you’re ready to earn the trust of a timid pup and watch her blossom into the joyful dog she’s meant to be, Willow may be your perfect match. To begin the adoption process, please submit an application using the link below. Our team will carefully review it to determine if you are a suitable match for the dog you are interested in. If deemed a good fit, the foster parent will reach out to schedule a meet-and-greet or seek additional information. In the event your application isn't accepted or might be a better fit for another dog, we will provide feedback and suggest alternative matches. Your application remains active for 90 days, allowing consideration for other dogs in our care. Simply email us if there is another dog you would like your application to be applied to. Story
Sophie is a tiny 7-lb terrier mix with a big personality and a deep love for her people. She came from a very loving home, but when her owner had to move into assisted care, Sophie sadly couldn’t come along. Despite the change, she remains a truly darling girl who bonds closely with her person. Sophie warms up quickly once she’s familiar with your face and feels safe. She strongly prefers women, as men tend to make her nervous. Once she trusts you, she’s incredibly affectionate—she loves curling up on laps, staying close, and exploring her surroundings with curiosity. Sophie would do best as the only dog in the home. While she can tolerate other dogs, she is most comfortable having her people, food, and toys to herself, and she thrives when she doesn’t have to compete for attention. She is spayed and up to date on all vaccines, and looking for a calm, understanding home where she can be the center of someone’s world. If you’re a woman looking for a devoted little companion who wants nothing more than to love you, Sophie may be your perfect match. 💛🐾

Story
Gondo is a charming 4-year-old schnauzer–terrier mix who came to us from a hoarding situation in the Central Valley. Despite a rough start, Gondo is showing just how much potential he has and is blossoming more every day in foster care. Gondo is a smart, curious little guy and a fast learner. He’s currently working on commands like sit, up, and off—and he’s picking them up quickly. He can be a bit of a climber (countertops beware!), but with clear boundaries and guidance, he’s eager to please and learn the rules. He has big opinions about food and definitely knows what he likes! His favorites include frozen yogurt, chicken broth, and Royal Canin kibble—great motivators for training and bonding. Gondo does well on leash and enjoys slow, treat-filled walks where he can sniff and explore the world at his own pace. He’s happiest wearing a harness that slips over his head and clips underneath. Stairs are a bit of a question mark for him—sometimes he’s hesitant, sometimes confident—so a home that’s patient and observant as he figures that out would be ideal. During the day, Gondo does wonderfully in an office or work-from-home environment, happily relaxing with short walks sprinkled throughout. In the evenings, his playful side comes out with bursts of energy—he especially loves amusing himself by playing with his reflection in mirrors! With structure, patience, and love, Gondo is going to be a loyal, entertaining, and deeply rewarding companion. He’s ready for a home that will continue building his confidence and help him shine. 💛

Story
Sparky is a delightful 1.5-year-old Cairn Terrier mix known for his energetic and lovable nature. He greets everyone with a wagging tail and a sparkly personality, making him a joy to be around. Sparky enjoys playing fetch, going on long walks, and spending quality time with his family. He is friendly and social, getting along well with other dogs and children aged 8 and up. As a great walking buddy, he loves outdoor activities and is mostly potty trained, though still improving. Sparky is learning commands like “sit” and “shake” and is very affectionate, enjoying kisses and snuggles. He is doing very well on a mild medication regimen for seizure prevention. While he still has some playful habits, such as nibbling fingers and occasionally ignoring commands, he is a quick learner with patience and training. Sparky is looking for a forever family to share his joyful moments with. Please complete our application on our website, 1luckydogrescue.org or contact Patricia 925-787-5825 for more information. It is helpful if information about the type of home that you will provide is included if emailing us.

To be considered for adoption, pls submit an application in advance. Adoption fee: $750 Plot Twist is a tiny chapter-stealer with a big personality and impeccable comic timing. At just 10–12 months old and a mere 4.8 pounds, this Yorkie/Cairn Terrier mix may be small in size, but she brings main-character energy to every room she enters. She came to DPS from a shelter after being abandoned with her brother, Cliffhanger, and while that may have been an abrupt opening chapter, Plot Twist is clearly ready for a much happier sequel.   Plot Twist starts her mornings around 6 a.m., waking up excited and ready to see what the day’s story holds. At night, she sleeps either in her crate next to the bed or on a small dog bed nearby— she very much prefers to keep her favorite human within arm’s reach. First thing in the morning, she heads outside and zooms around to find just the right spot to take care of business, though she does best when her person stays outside with her so she doesn’t get distracted checking in. After that, she’s perfectly content curling up on a lap to watch the morning news while coffee is poured.   Meals are a highlight of her day. Plot Twist loves food—truly all food— and is fed three times daily using a slow-feeding mat. She’s happily gaining a little weight to support her health, though she’ll always remain delightfully tiny and easy to take along on adventures. During the morning hustle, she enjoys supervising the school-age kids as they get ready, making sure everyone stays on task. When the house empties out, she does best settling into her crate or safe space, where she may voice her opinions briefly before relaxing.   Once her people return, Plot Twist happily resumes her role as office assistant during the workday, rotating between lap time, her small bed, and outdoor breaks. She thrives on attention and affection and is happiest when she can be part of the action. In the early afternoon, she enjoys a walk and is fantastic on leash— confident, curious, and surprisingly sturdy for such a small dog. She even has the stamina for a walk to the coffee shop and back, where she excels as a polite and charming patio companion.   Plot Twist has a joyful, affectionate personality that really shines. She is a classic “velcro” dog who loves closeness, though she’s respectful when redirected and settles well when guided to her own space. She enjoys zooming around the yard and playing, but can go from full-speed to fully relaxed the moment she’s picked up and placed on a lap.   Plot Twist has been wonderful with children ages five and up. She lives with two cats and shows no interest in them. She is brave and unfazed by the big, noisy things in life—leaf blowers and garbage trucks don’t rattle her confidence one bit. She previously lived with her brother while at the shelter and has met other dogs through DPS. While she's an option to join another dog in the home, she will also be content being your one and onyl.   She is still learning the finer points of housetraining and does best with frequent trips outside or easy access to an outdoor area. She doesn’t require grass and seems equally happy going on mulch or sidewalk. She responds beautifully to praise and food rewards and is eager to learn. She does not chew or dig, and while she has found her voice as she’s grown more comfortable, her barking is typically brief and settles with reassurance or attention. Despite acting perpetually hungry, she does not resource guard.     What truly sets Plot Twist apart is her ability to turn everyday moments into something special. As soon as she felt healthy, she was ready to experience the world— coffee shops, walks, laps, and all— with enthusiasm and charm. She’s the kind of dog who wants to be someone’s best friend, confidante, and favorite plot development all rolled into one. With Plot Twist, life is sweeter, cozier, and full of delightful surprises.February 2, 2026, 8:44 pm
