Story
This pet was brought in as a stray and will NOT be available for adoption through our program. All stray animals brought in are posted on the gallery to hopefully be reunited with their families. Each pet is evaluated upon arrival, and throughout their stay, at the Animal Center and we do our best to place the animal in the setting most appropriate for them. Sometimes, they may be better served through one of our Transfer Partners due to the intervention needed, ongoing care required or a quieter setting for that individual. We want our animals to put their best paw forward. If you are a 501c3 rescue and are interested in partnering with WCAC to help this pet, and others, you can find more information on how to help at: https://www.wakegov.com/departments-government/animal-services/community-partners/transfer-program If this is your pet, please contact us immediately at AnimalCenter@wake.gov Primary Color: White Weight: 83 Age: 5yrs 0mths 0wks

Story
Backup is an older puppy shepherd mix with big paws, a big personality, and plenty of growing still to do. At around 40ish pounds already, he’s clearly on track to be a big boy, so experience with large breeds is preferred. We suspect he has some herding breed in him—possibly Anatolian Shepherd—thanks to his independent streak and love of exploring the yard. Backup is incredibly intelligent and eager to learn. In a short time, he’s made great progress with house and crate training, and he already knows sit, down, roll over, touch, and “legs” (coming between your legs and sitting). He’s highly food motivated, which makes training both fun and effective. He began life as an outdoor dog, living in a small pallet enclosure before a rescue stepped in, so he’s still learning indoor manners. Backup will thrive with an adopter who’s committed to continued training and positive reinforcement. This energetic pup would do best in an active household—ideally with a yard where he can run and explore and/or a playful companion (human or canine). He plays hard but sleeps even harder, happily snoozing through the night and taking long naps between bursts of activity. Backup loves toys of all kinds, especially loud, squeaky ones and anything good for tug. He’s excellent at fetch and would very much appreciate a forever home stocked with plenty of tennis balls.
