Story
🐾 Fester – Cane Corso • Special Adoption Requirements Status: In training Location: Cincinnati, Ohio Breed: Cane Corso mix Age: Adult Adoption Fee: Includes required pre-adoption training sessions ⸻ About Fester Fester came to Cleo’s Legacy from a severely overcrowded shelter after surviving an extremely traumatic situation — including being shot. Despite everything he has endured, he is showing us every day that he wants to trust again. Because of his past, Fester is understandably fearful of men. His response to this fear is typically barking or growling, which are defensive behaviors and not uncommon for guardian breeds who have experienced trauma. He is currently in the very early stages of decompression and professional training, and we are still learning more about his full personality. At this time, we do not know how he is with cats. ⸻ What Fester Needs in an Adopter Because of his background and breed traits, Fester requires an adopter who is: • Experienced with large guardian breeds (Cane Corso, Mastiff-type breeds, etc.) • Willing to work closely with our trainer prior to adoption • Committed to ongoing structure, routine, and positive-reinforcement training • Patient, emotionally steady, and ready to help him heal at his pace His training is currently located in Cincinnati, Ohio, and in-person sessions with his trainer are required before adoption can be finalized. ⸻ About the Cane Corso Breed Cane Corsos are powerful, intelligent, and deeply sensitive guardian dogs. They thrive with adopters who understand: • Slow, thoughtful introductions and predictable structure • How to build trust with a fearful guardian breed • That their large, confident appearance often masks big emotions, especially after trauma • They bond intensely to their people and rely heavily on routine, consistency, and handler confidence • They require calm, balanced leadership — never force or intimidation • Early and continued training is essential for their long-term success When matched with the right person, Corsos can be unbelievably loyal, stable, loving, and devoted companions. ⸻ Why Fester Is Worth It Fester has survived more than any dog should, yet he is still trying. The right adopter will be someone who sees the dog behind the fear — a dog who wants stability, love, and guidance. If you’re someone who respects the breed, values training, and is ready to help a truly deserving dog heal, Fester could become one of the most meaningful companions you’ll ever have.

Story
Looking for a fun, quirky and goofy dog?  Want a tri-pod dog that thinks she’s a gazelle? Well….Kylie is the perfect fit! What a road of recovery this girl has had from a terrible abuse case.  Kylie came to us after having to have her right hind leg removed and need time to heal from that and some other fractures.  After many months of learning how to trust humans again, she slowly began to come out of her shell and learned to interact with humans and her doggie friends. She discovered that she likes to sleep on a soft doggie bed or lounge around on the couch, when she’s not wrestling around with her doggie friends.  She has no awareness that she’s a tri-pod and leaps and wrestles around. Kylie would do best in a home with other doggie friends and with patient humans who will give her the time and space to trust in them.  She tends to favor women over men but can be won over with yummy treats.  Rescue shows us the road to recovery may be long for some dogs, but one look into Kylie’s eyes and you can certainly see her compassion and ability to love again. All of our dogs are spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, microchipped and if over 6 months of age, heartworm tested and on heartworm preventative in their foster home. We require an approved application to meet any of our dogs. We do not have a shelter location and will not arrange a meeting without an approved application. We strive to make sure the bios provided for our dogs are complete and accurate; we do understand that mistakes happen, however, so if you absolutely cannot find the answer to your question in the dog's bio, you can contact us for more information. We require a home visit for each dog we adopt out, so we adopt within a 2 hour radius of Dayton, OH. If you are outside of this radius, we encourage you to contact your local rescue or shelter.   July 2, 2025, 8:51 am

Story
Apollo is a St. Bernard/cane corso mix Born July 20th 2024 and is currently 1 year. He is around 115 lbs and is expected to get around 30 lbs bigger but unsure. He is up to date on all vaccines and can give vet records. He is also neutered. Apollo is a very sweet and loving dog that doesn’t know his size and thinks he’s smaller than he is. He is a very happy and healthy dog, he loves toys and is very treat motivated, he is not food aggressive at all, he is a very anxious dog so he does bark at everything and it seems aggressive but he has never bitten anyone. We really want to find a good home for him where he has a big back yard or plenty of space to roam around and be free preferably someone who is home a lot bc he needs a lot of training and a lot of attention. He is a very good dog and deserves a better home, we are only asking a small fee to make sure he goes to the best home

Story
Mossberger is a great dog. He was my wife’s dog, prior to her passing away. Unfortunately I work long hours and cannot take care of him properly due to my long work hours now that I am alone. He is 3-1/2 years old and he was the puppy my wife kept from a litter from our other Cane Corso parents. I am only interested in an adoption to a loving and dedicated home.

Story
Hercules was rescued by my brother, and I welcomed him into my home shortly after. Since then, he has been such a loving, loyal companion. He absolutely adores people and thrives on affection. He still believes he’s a lap dog and will happily curl up with you any chance he gets. Hercules would do best in a home where he can be the center of attention. He isn’t a good fit for a home with cats, and he can be reactive toward unfamiliar dogs. However, he coexists well with my other dog, which shows that with the right environment and experienced handling, positive progress is possible. He would thrive with a confident, dog-savvy owner who can continue guiding him and setting him up for success. For his health, Hercules is on a chicken-free diet due to skin sensitivities, and he’s been doing much better since making that change. This sweet, affectionate boy has so much love to give. I truly wish I could keep him, but I want him in a home where he can feel secure and where all pets are safe.

Story
Meet Denali! Denali is a 3.5-month-old, 35 lb. Anatolian Shepherd mix with the most unique look — a large-breed pup in a low-rider, long body (we suspect he may be mixed with something like a Basset Hound!). He’s truly one of a kind. Denali loves being part of a pack. He absolutely enjoys playing with other dogs and would thrive in a home with active canine companions and kids to grow up with. He’s fun-loving, playful, and full of personality. He responds well to correction and can be redirected easily. He would do best with an experienced owner who understands how to appropriately correct and guide Denali. In just two weeks, Denali has made incredible progress — it’s truly night and day from where he started. Any minor behaviors we’ve seen are already improving and are expected to continue fading with time, consistency, and structure. Denali was found as a stray, but you’d never guess it from his adventurous spirit. He isn’t afraid to explore new environments and has already learned to use the stairs in just a day! He uses pee pads and is picking up house training quickly. He is crate trained, though he does have a little separation anxiety likely due to his early circumstances. With patience and reassurance, he continues to gain confidence. His superpowers include epic puppy zoomies, bouncing all over the house, and bringing nonstop joy with his playful energy. He loves teething toys, tennis balls, and anything that squeaks. Despite loving other dogs, Denali is very human-oriented. He adores his people and just wants to please them. He thinks he’s a lap dog and would happily snuggle up on the couch to watch TV with you after a day of adventures. Denali is happiest when he’s learning new tricks, exploring with his humans, or cuddling close. He needs a patient, confident handler who can continue to help him grow into the loyal, devoted companion he’s meant to be. If you’re looking for a unique dog with a huge personality, playful spirit, and endless love to give, Denali may just be your perfect match. Denali is currently being fostered in the Cincinnati, OH area. His adoption fee is $275.00. To adopt this animal, please visit https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt All of our animals come spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, are microchipped, heartworm negative, current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention, dewormed, and treated for any ailments found upon veterinary examination. The adoption fee covers a portion of these services, and makes it possible for us to continue rescuing animals. For more information on the adoption fees and the adoption process, please complete our adoption application here: https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt - an application allows us to get to know your family better so we can assess whether the animal you are interested in is a good match for your home. An application does not obligate you to adopt. Please understand that due to the volume of applications some animals receive, we are unable to contact all applicants. If your application is considered a good fit for the animal you are interested in, or even a different pet, a volunteer will give you a call as soon as possible. We are a foster based rescue and do not have a shelter location where animals can be seen during the week. Please see our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/LouiesLegacy for our weekly adoption album if you are interested in meeting an animal in person. Not all animals attend every adoption event, please check our Facebook page for animal event times and locations before you make a trip to meet a specific animal.
