Story
DOUG IS IN A FOSTER HOME WHILE HE WAITS FOR HIS FOREVER HOME. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN MEETING HIM, PLEASE SEND AN EMAIL TO PRAS-FOSTER@NNVA.GOV.Meet Doug!Doug is a true-to-the-breed Cane Corso, estimated to be about 1 year old, with plenty of growing and maturing still ahead of him. He came to us as a stray, so much of his early history is unknown, but what we do know is that Doug is a powerful, intelligent young dog who needs the right home to truly thrive.Doug was previously adopted but returned after showing a high prey drive toward small animals in the home. Because of this, Doug cannot be placed in a home with small, free-roaming pets of any kind. Any resident dog(s) must meet Doug prior to adoption to ensure a good fit.He appears to be housebroken and does well in a structured environment. Due to his size, strength, and guardian-breed instincts, Doug must meet all members of the household before going home and is not recommended for families with children under 15 years old.Doug will require a strong, confident handler with prior guardian-breed experience. Cane Corsos are loyal and devoted companions, but they are not a breed for everyone. They require consistent training, firm but fair leadership, clear boundaries, and ongoing management to be successful. For the right adopter—someone experienced, committed, and understanding of the breed—Doug has the potential to be an incredibly rewarding companion. If you believe you have the knowledge, structure, and dedication Doug needs, he may be the dog you’ve been waiting for.

Story
Meet our handsome 1.5 year Cane Corso, a devoted, intelligent, and affectionate boy who has been raised in a loving home since he was 8 weeks old. This decision comes with a heavy heart due to military orders and an upcoming move that unfortunately makes it impossible for us to take him along. Our priority is finding him a safe, stable, forever home not a shelter. He absolutely adores children and has been incredibly protective and gentle with our two young daughters. He takes his role as a guardian seriously and is very loyal to his people. He is a natural barker and strong protector, especially of his home and family, and will not allow unfamiliar people onto his territory without proper introduction. Because of this, he would do best with an experienced dog owner who understands the Cane Corso breed and can continue consistent training and structure. Despite his protective instincts, he is truly a big baby at heart affectionate, loving, and enjoys being close to his people.
