Story
Meet Canelo Name: Canelo Age: 4 years old Breed: Sharpei Mix Weight: 58 lbs Location: Los Angeles Bio: Hey there, I'm Canelo! I may have had a rough start, but I'm ready to turn my luck around and find my forever family. I was at the Carson High Kill Shelter in Los Angeles, where I initially showed my happy-go-lucky personality. I quickly made friends with the male volunteers (love men women children and other dogs too) but really like hanging with the fellas! I loved running around and playing in the play yard with calm dogs my size. However, as time passed and no one showed interest in adopting me, I started to feel depressed and confused. Thankfully, Concerned Citizens Animal Rescue saw my shelter video and decided to save me from euthanasia. Since being in foster care, I've shown that I enjoy being groomed, having my ears cleaned, and sleeping with all my toys under my chin. I've also been told that my ears tell a story of their own. I'm fine being alone for a few hours and love going for walks. I get along with most, including the skunk I met on an evening stroll! And I love my crate! I'm not fond of gophers or cats. Well- I just like to play rough with them but they don't like that. I'm not a puppy so I won't eat your baseboards and I'm not a senior so I won't sleep all day. I'm a middle-aged guy with a heart full of love to give to a family or person who wants to be unconditionally loved!!! Canelo is a super easy dog. He loves walks and snuggling. Canelo does best and feels most secure with someone that will give clear boundaries and be consistent - he is super eager to please. He is still working on being neutral around small animals so no adopters with small dogs, cats, etc. I'm looking for a forever family who will give me the love and care I deserve. If you're interested in adopting me, please contact Concerned Citizens Animal Rescue at info@concernedcitizensanimalrescue.org or 213 797.0364 I'm microchipped, neutered, and up to date on vaccinations. Let's make some memories together – I can't wait to meet you! Neutered UTD on Vax Microchipped

Story
Looking for a pup that’s a great listener? With Gypsy you’ll have to look no further! Her ears are already perked up and ready to listen! Not only a good listener she is also beautiful! How can you not get lost in her eyes! She is a sweet dog that is affectionate, intelligent, playful and energetic. She would be a great dog to take on trail hikes. Gypsy is approximately 10 months old and spayed. Gypsy would need to be part of an active family. Preferably a family that has experience with intelligent and active dogs. Gypsy keeps her distance when around the cats in our home because I believe she senses their willingness to scratch her nose, she has her looks to consider! My granddaughter enjoys providing Gypsy with plenty of belly rubs. When outside Gypsy is eager to find new friends. Gypsy would love to be part of your family!

Story
Meet Otto!  She is the sweetest most adorable girll! She is a 1 year old that was rescued from a kill shelter before heading to a dog meat farm in South Korea.  We have partners we work with there that pull these dogs from the worst horrors imaginable.  Many of these dogs start off in horiffic puppy mill type facilities on tiny rabbit cage size wire crates in complete filth.  If they are not sold at 6 or 8 weeks then they either stay for a couple years to be used to breed more and then are sold off to the meat trade, or they are sold off right away.  Jindo's and Tosa's are the most common meat type dogs, and are very commonly bred specifically for their meat and the meat farms also act as breeding farms until they reach a good age and weight. South Korea is one of the only countries that actually farms dogs for their meat.   Restaurants will serve a dish called " bosintang ", which stands for "dog meat soup". It's a popular dish in South  Korea,  and is said to act as an aphrodisiac for men.    Little dogs are used for elixirs and potions.  The younger generation is mostly against this practice and many choose to not eat them, and we can only hope in time with education and generations of change that an end will come to this horrific trade.  Otto and some of her family and friends have been flown here for a chance at a future and a real life.  These are miracle dogs that they are alive today.  Our adoption fee is $600 which helps offset some of the flight costs.  If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application form at  https://form.jotform.com/oscarlucy/dog-adoption-app December 22, 2025, 4:50 pm

Meet Mochi!  She is a 6 year old that was rescued from a dog meat farm in South Korea. Don't let her photos fool you, she looks big in photos but she is 22 lbs. She has spent the last three years in a loving home, but is unfortunately not well suited for living with infants due to a sleep-startle reflex from her traumatic history.  Also if she is eating she wants to be left alone.   She is house-trained, knows her basic commands, will heel when on walks, and tends to be easy to train due to being food motivated.     While we don't know the exact details of her past, we suspect based on behavior that she did not get the best start in life and was used for breeding, was beaten, and had her puppies taken away at a young age. She is still learning how to play with toys and tends to take cues from other dogs.   it is better if she is in a home with other confident dogs to show her the ropes.   Mochi's favorite thing is getting in the car to head off to a new place to explore, she loves hikes, and is excited to see other dogs.. At home she is independent and often spends long periods of time outside on the lookout for squirrels and lizards that threaten the backyard. Once she knows you and loves you she will get in cuddly moods and lean against you for support and love.    Mochi does well with routine, and prefers daily activity and free access to the backyard.    If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application form at  https://form.jotform.com/oscarlucy/dog-adoption-app October 20, 2025, 4:44 pm
