Story
According to his foster, 4 ½ year old mix of Carolina Dog and Shepherd named Butter is “exquisite!” What could she mean by that? First of all is his medium coat of red and gold that shines in the sun.  He weighs between 50 and 55 pounds and is quite trim at that.  His eyes are large, especially when they’re looking into yours.  What else? Butter is gentle and easy going. He always takes treats from your hand easily.  He enjoys going for walks and playing with tennis balls. He is sweet and enjoys giving hugs, being brushed, and receiving belly rubs! We love this boy!  (ME, 11//8/23)  (updates 3/11/24) **It is rare that we know with certainty the ages or mixes that make up our dogs, but we do our best to be as accurate as possible based upon our experience. ** Adoption/Transport Fee:  $250.00April 28, 2024, 11:37 pm

Story
Happy, smiling Kiki is ready to meet her forever family! She is only 2 years old and weighs 50 pounds. She has a sad story to tell about the last year of her life... she has been in a small kennel with barely any time outside. The last time one of the volunteers was there, she literally put her paw out and got her attention and she stopped. She could see how sad she was and lonely in there. So she got her out. She has broken free from there and is now waiting for her new home. She is good with other dogs but does love to play and has a lot of energy so she needs to be matched with a dog who is ready for a friends. She enjoys her toys and running around the yard with them or keeping herself busy in the house with them. She will steal your heart and she will be so grateful to you for changing her life and giving her the world, because that is what she deserves.  We do not know what she is but our best guess is Carolina dog. She is so cute and different.  Fill out an application if you would like to meet her at bcaaofnj.org Interested in adopting this pet?Click here for BCAA's on-line Application! PLEASE NOTE: Our adoption fee helps to cover our expenses and includes all shots, *age appropriate*, distemper and rabies, fecal check, spay/neuter, heartworm test, grooming, and in many cases dental and also the fee we pay when we rescue from a shelter. Story
Sandy is a beautiful 1-2 year old Carolina dog. She weighs 43 pounds. Sandy loves to be with other dogs. She does have a tendency to jump on them and play a little rough though so she will do well with dogs who want to play too. She has no problems with cats and pretty much ignores them. She is medium to high energy but calms down after play and walks. She is very outgoing and prefers to be with people. She walks well on leash when there are no distractions but does start to pull when she sees another dog or person. She loves car rides and gets very excited. She loves having her head out the window. Sandy is using a crate and shows some resistance when first getting in but calms down quickly. She spends the night in the crate with no issues. Sandy is housebroken and will walk to the door when wanting to go out. She is currently a master of the sit command. She is doing well with lay and also shake. She loves playing with squeaky toys and stuffed animals. She will chase after a ball but will not return with it. Her ideal home would be a home that can spend lots of time with her, she wants nothing more than to be around people and not be alone. She is a very sweet dog and eager to please and a quick learner. She can jump lower fences. She either needs at least a six foot fence or no fence at all. She will do fine in a home without a fenced yard as long as she gets proper exercise. If you would like to meet her, apply at bcaaofnj.org Interested in adopting this pet?Click here for BCAA's on-line Application! Story
This dog is part of our shelter outreach program where we take dogs from overcrowded shelters in hopes of finding them a forever home here! We generally do not have much background info on them and cannot guarantee they are housebroken.  They are all up to date on vaccines, spayed/neutered and microchipped.  Update 8-1-23 Guess what? The sibling of Ruby and Diamond who was adopted had a DNA test done and it came back 96% Carolina dog. These dogs are prevalent in the Southeast and are known to be loyal to their humans and make great family pets. These adorable sisters have been patiently waiting for their forever home for 3 whole months! Their brother was adopted but they are still here!! They're young, active, and ready to bring endless love and joy to your life.  Ruby and Diamond will thrive with regular exercise and training. They're eager to learn new tricks and make memories with their perfect family. Give these precious pups the loving home they deserve. Don't let them wait any longer! Adopt Ruby or Diamond today and experience the pure happiness they'll bring into your life.    Flint, Ruby, and Diamond are three adorable puppy siblings in a shelter waiting for their forever home. They are 5 months old and are Shepherd husky mixes with a gemstone theme to their names. They were left in a box in front of a piggly wiggly in TN when they were only a few weeks old, and now they need experienced and caring homes to take care of them. These puppies are going to be big - they are expected to grow to 50lbs when fully grown. As Shepherd husky mixes, they will need plenty of exercise and playtime to keep them happy and healthy. Potential adopters should be aware of this and ensure they have enough space and time to dedicate to these pups. Flint, Ruby, and Diamond are also in need of experienced dog owners. They are young and have a lot to learn, so their new owners should be willing to invest time and patience into training them. It is essential that they attend obedience classes to ensure they grow into well-behaved adult dogs. Due to their size and energy, these puppies are best suited for homes with children who are 15 and up. They may accidentally knock over younger children or become too boisterous for them to handle. If you are interested in adopting Flint, Ruby, and Diamond, please consider all of these factors carefully. These puppies are looking for loving and responsible homes where they will be cared for and given the attention they deserve.*Per JSAC policy, puppies and kittens under 6 months will not be adopted to families with children under the age of 6 years.April 28, 2024, 6:27 pm

Story
Meet Mowgli! He is a 1 year old high energy Black Mouth Cur mix who weighs approximately 50 pounds. His super powers include being completely crate trained and house broken, AND he is great with other dogs and cats! Mowgli is easily redirected and listens to the word "no," making training him easy. He will do just about anything for treats, loves playing with toys, and of course enjoys frozen peanut butter Kongs. Mowgli is working hard on his leash skills; while he is good, we are aiming for great! His foster family is also working on him jumping up as bad habit. Mowgli would thrive in a home in the suburbs with a fenced in yard, as he is not so fond of the city life. He would also love to find an owner that would play catch and run him around so he could loose some of his energy. Mowgli is currently being fostered in Ewing , NJ. His adoption fee is $500. To adopt this animal, please visit https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt All of our animals come spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, are microchipped, heartworm negative, current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention, dewormed, and treated for any ailments found upon veterinary examination. The adoption fee covers a portion of these services, and makes it possible for us to continue rescuing animals. For more information on the adoption fees and the adoption process, please complete our adoption application here: https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt - an application allows us to get to know your family better so we can assess whether the animal you are interested in is a good match for your home. An application does not obligate you to adopt. Please understand that due to the volume of applications some animals receive, we are unable to contact all applicants. If your application is considered a good fit for the animal you are interested in, or even a different pet, a volunteer will give you a call as soon as possible. We are a foster based rescue and do not have a shelter location where animals can be seen during the week. Please see our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/LouiesLegacy for our weekly adoption album if you are interested in meeting an animal in person. Not all animals attend every adoption event, please check our Facebook page for animal event times and locations before you make a trip to meet a specific animal.
