Story
I’m Sanford, a handsome mixed-breed youngster who steals hearts everywhere I go!I came to the Humane Society of York County from York County Animal Services. I’m a medium-size guy, about 35 to 40 pounds, and my estimated birth date is September 2024.I’m very dog-friendly and a playful guy. I enjoy the company of other dogs, and I love snuggling with my human friends. I’ve represented HSYC at community events and did very well meeting new dogs and people. I’m also a very intelligent boy and graduated from school at Zoom Room in Fort Mill. I learned helpful manners like “sit” and “down.” And important life skills, like confidently getting in and out of a car. I would love to continue my training with my new family!I love my daily walks and I’m an excellent leash walker. I would be a fabulous companion for adventures, or backyard playtime. Call to meet me and find out why everyone at the rescue loves me!If you wish to meet me, please call the Humane Society of York County at (803)-802-0902 to schedule an appointment. Please refer to our website for adoption requirements: https://humanesocietyofyorkcounty.org/adopt/adoption-process.htmlThank you for your support.

******Please note, once completing the initial screen you will be connected with the placement for a video chat. Transports run every few weeks and we will have the dog on the next available transport once approved. If you are not able to accept a dog until a specific time period, please apply at that time************ We are a volunteer run rescue and donate our time to these dogs. IF you are not serious about moving forward in our adoption process, please do not apply. If someone other than yourself is part of the decision making process, please make sure you have spoken with them and they are on board. We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog. Florence (Flora), 3 years old, spayed female, Carolina Dog mix, 46 pounds. She is in a foster home in HOUSTON, TEXAS and can transport out of State once an adopter is approved. Florence, affectionately nicknamed, Flora, Flory, Lory, or Sweetpea, is a playful and energetic dog who loves to wrestle and be chased. She would do best in a home with dogs of similar size and energy level. When playing, Flora could play for hours. She loves to interact with another dog in the home, Furman by licking his face. Flora has experience playing with dogs ranging from a 35-pound Cocker Spaniel to a 60-pound Pyrenees mix. Flora requires slow and guided introductions to other dogs. She has shown some leash reactivity, exhibiting behaviors like raised hair, whimpering and barking. Her foster parents have worked with her on this behavior. It did take her some time to befriend the resident pup, and Flora may do best as the one and only in the home. Flora’s compatibility with cats is unknown. She adores the 8-year-old child in the home, but is nervous of new children. Flora does have stranger danger when new people come into the home, and tends to bark at them, especially when they move around quickly. Because of her fear, she may prefer an adult household at this time. As mentioned, Flora has some leash reactivity and gets easily spooked, often pulling a lot. However, she has made progress with positive reinforcement and minimal stimuli. She walks much better in calm environments with less activity. She will need consistent training to help her with her leash skills and feeling safe around new dogs and stimuli. Flora is fully housebroken. She has demonstrated some anxiety in the crate at home. When her foster parents have gone out of town she has gone to boarding where she is crated with no issues. At home, she is able to be out of a crate and unsupervised with zero issues. She is fed separately from the other dogs in the home. Otherwise, she shares her toys well and has no issues with people and food, although she needs reminders to take treats gently. Flora has high energy needs and requires dedicated outdoor playtimes to do well inside the home. She thrives in a moderately active home with regular outdoor play sessions. She loves playing with the resident dog, bucking around the yard, eating, going for walks, sunbathing, and birdwatching. She is a total love bug and enjoys snuggling. She does well in the car but is terrified of storms, often seeking shelter in a closet or burying her head in a lap. Flora’s ideal home would be with someone who is often around, enjoys walks or jogs, and will play fetch with her. A home with no other pets or a well balanced dog of similar age, size, and energy level would be ideal. Flora needs an owner who will continue positive reinforcement to help with her anxiety. Flora is very smart, loves learning new tricks, and is very submissive and affectionate. She may be a work in progress, but will reward you with love and companionship for years to come! ***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown. We rarely know a dog's exact age nor are we able to tell the true or full breed mix of dogs as our information is limited most of the time. *** Interested in applying to adopt her? Story
Meet Cody 1 year old | Carolina Dog | Female | 47 lbs Charlotte, NC -Up-to-date on vaccines -Heartworm negative Spay scheduled for February. She can go to a foster-to-adopt home anytime before spay. :) In mid-July, Cody’s journey began when the owner of Dogs All Day found her living in the wild: malnourished, terrified, and fighting to survive. It took four months of consistent feeding, patience, and trust-building before she could finally be safely caught. Since then, Cody has made an incredible transformation. She is fully vetted and fostered at Dogs All Day in Charlotte, NC, Cody has adjusted to a structured daycare and boarding environment. With slow, thoughtful introductions, she has successfully joined full-day play groups and continues to gain confidence every day. She is crate trained, dog-social with proper introductions, and thrives in routines that offer clear expectations and consistency. Cody can be a little skeptical of new things at first which is completely understandable for a dog who once had to survive on her own but once she feels safe, her personality truly shines. She has opened up tremendously and continues to show how resilient and adaptable she is. She’s also very intelligent and picks up on routines quickly, so continued training should come easily with consistency and positive reinforcement. We’d recommend a single-dog home, or a home with adopters who are experienced in proper introductions and committed to following the 3-3-3 rule to set everyone up for success. Cody would do best in a house with a fenced yard, where she can continue building confidence in a calm, supportive environment. A big bonus: Cody is already settled and comfortable in a daycare and boarding setting at Dogs All Day, giving her future family an easy, familiar option for daycare days or travel needs! This is something many adopted dogs need time to adjust to, but Cody already has down. Cody has come so far, and now she’s ready for the final piece of her journey, a forever home of her own.
