This attractive, easy-going fellow is Garrett, came into the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 4/17 as a stray. He has stunning good looks and a remarkable personality. He is listed as a mix of Carolina dog and Australian Kelpie. Garrett weighs 67 pounds, is about 2 1/2 years old and is neutered. He is a spunky, energetic, lively, and active fellow with a moderate energy level. He’s crazy about treats and takes them politely. He does not know the sit or any other command, but I have a strong sense that he’s smart enough to learn some basic commands very quickly. Garrett is very likely house trained as he kept his kennel clean and once he got into the yard, he did his business immediately. He is an amiable boy with a pleasant personality who is happy to have you pet him and love on him. And oh that smile🙂 Garrett would doubtless make some person or family a devoted and loving companion. It goes without saying that he needs to be an inside dog in order to be comfortable and to have a safe and secure living situation.

This handsome boy is Kaido. He arrived as a stray at the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 12/12. Kaido weighs 46 pounds and is about 2 years old. According to my dog scanner app he very possibly has the following breeds in his mix: Carolina Dog, Basenji, and Canaan Dog. He walks ok on a leash, but could use some leash training. He does jump on you quite a bit and so manners training would be beneficial. He is playful and exuberant in behavior and thoroughly enjoyed time spent in the yard. He was up and down on our play equipment and is quite agile. He likes treats, will sit for them and takes them nicely. Kaido is friendly and enjoys being petted. I feel he would do best in a home situation of an active person or family. I can see him in their backyard chasing tennis balls (which he does but does not know to return), going for walks or jogging with his owner--just anything to stretch those legs and get some of the wiggles out. He absolutely wants to live inside and be an integral part of the family structure.

Meet Kiki! She’s an 8-month-old female Carolina/Boxer mix weighing 23.6 lbs (and still growing!) who arrived at the shelter on 12/6 as a stray. Kiki is an absolute delight to be around—she walks beautifully on a leash, strutting with confidence as she prances along. She is a true lovebug too, as she will climb in your lap and smother you with kisses. She takes treats gently too! She is rescue only as she came into the shelter very malnourished and needs to gain weight before she can be adopted. We feel she may be houstrained as well. She has done quite well in the time she has been at the shelter yet would do even better being out of the shelter and on her way to her own loving family.

Graham is such an easy going, chill, laid back boy. So well mannered, such a total sweetheart and overall just such an amazing dog! So easy to get the leash on him and he does so great on walks. He is very house trained. He will hold it forever til he gets outside to go potty. He keeps his kennel clean and is just 100% a good boy! He is dog friendly and is completely unbothered and non reactive towards the other dogs we pass by in their kennels. Stop by the Richardson Animal Shelter to meet Graham! Meet Layla 🐾🐶 Layla is a beautiful 6-year-old Carolina Dog with a big heart and a love for people. She is sweet, affectionate, and very cuddly with her humans. Layla is a high-energy dog and would do best in a home with a secure yard or space to run. Because of her energy level, an adult-only home or one with older children is recommended, though she has done well around our toddler with supervision. Layla prefers to be the only pet, as she does not get along with other animals. She is crate trained (not her favorite), and we will include her heavy-duty crate. She has storm anxiety, which is managed with medication. She has chipped canine teeth (about 3.5), with no known infections. Layla is a loving, loyal dog who needs the right home to help her thrive ❤️
