Story
Kintsugi is a young, long-haired female cat that we have had since she was a kitten. She is the sweetest, most cuddliest little kitty and we love her so much. Unfortunately, as our one child has grown through the toddler age, Sugi is constantly tormented and gets chased around the house. Along with that, we recently had another baby and since bringing the baby home she has had a few accidents outside the litter box which she never did before. We think between both the children she has just grown too stressed at our home. We think she would thrive in a home without children. We have other animals in the home and she gets along just fine with them. She isn't up to date on her shots but that's only because her vet said she didn't need to be as our dogs are up to date and she never goes outside.

Story
He was meowing at me from across the street. I was working with homeowners in the area. I fed him some shrimp from my Chinese food because he was skin and bones. He politely devoured it and winked at me to say ty! I came back later to the same street and he was there again. Thus time I spoke with the "owners" of the cat. They told me he was knee an inside cat and they had him declawed in the front and neutered. (That explained why he was skin and bones! A declawed cat cannot survive outdoors!) The rest is history. I took him home and nurtured him to health. He is a super loving cat. He is also a scaredy cat. He is somewhat afraid of heights or just being held. Maybe from early trauma...

Story
Meet Vanta 🖤Vanta is proof that you don’t have to be loud to make an impression.Named after Vantablack, one of the deepest shades of black, this sleek little lady has mastered the art of being effortlessly cool. She’s friendly, easygoing, and perfectly content to hang out without demanding to be the center of attention.Walk over to say hi? She’s into it. Sit down nearby? She’ll happily keep you company. Offer some pets? Even better. Vanta has a calm, comfortable energy that makes being around her feel easy.At 11 months old, she’s still young, but she isn’t all chaos and curtain climbing. She’s already figured out that sometimes the best thing in life is simply finding a good spot, enjoying your people, and settling in.Vanta does well with other cats and children, while dogs are still an unknown. She’s been at the shelter for about six months, which is far too long for a girl this lovely to be waiting. If you want a cat who is sweet without being clingy, cool without trying, and always dressed for the occasion, come meet Vanta.Black goes with everything — especially your couch. 🖤An adoption application can be filled out on the DHS website https://www.dekalbhumanesociety.org/adopt. Dog adoption fees are $250.00 for all puppies and adult dogs. Seniors are a donation of choice.Cats and kittens are minimum donation $50.00

Meet Rock. She is one year and three months old and currently in the adult cat condos.Rock.That's it.No honorific. No whimsical surname. No complicated backstory.Rock.Someone had the entire English language available to them and selected a geological material. We respect the efficiency. If adopted, he can easily be incorporated into common household phrases:"Have you fed Rock?""Rock is on the couch.""Why is Rock in the bathtub?""Please stop letting Rock lick that."Having a pet named Rock also gives you the rare opportunity to truthfully tell people:I have a pet Rock. This alone feels worth an application. An adoption application can be filled out on the DHS website https://www.dekalbhumanesociety.org/adopt. Story
Gravel Quarry: The Rock-Solid MamaHi, I’m Gravel Quarry, a 1- to 2-year-old mama cat who recently raised five little gems: Pumice, Fossil, Granite, Igneous Rock, and Petoskey Stone.I’ve spent the last several weeks keeping kittens fed, clean, safe, and mostly out of trouble—which means I have more than earned a quiet home, a soft bed, and a little attention of my own.I’m still a young cat with plenty of life ahead of me, and now that my motherhood duties are winding down, I’m ready to be someone’s beloved companion instead of the full-time manager of a tiny mining operation.Come meet Gravel Quarry and give this rock-solid mama the fresh start she deserves. An adoption application can be filled out on the DHS website https://www.dekalbhumanesociety.org/adopt.
