Story

Margo came to PAWS pregnant and gave birth to five beautiful babies the very next day. She had been living as a stray on the streets of Cairo, IL, for all of her life as far as we know. But a kind gentleman came to her rescue and began to feed her and provide shelter for her. He was sad to surrender her but said he just could not continue to care for her and just wanted her to be safe. She is THE sweetest cat I have ever known and she is beautiful. (Unfortunately, she is not very photogenic so her pictures really don't do her justice!) She is immediately friendly with everyone and just wants to love and be loved. She is very quiet and calm and has been an exceptionally great mom. Now that she has the babies old enough to go to their forever homes, it is her turn to have the love and comfort of her very own home and family. She has been spayed, microchipped and has a rabies shot. She did test positive for FIV but I pray that does not stop someone from giving this precious girl the life that she deserves. Most research shows that this can only be transmitted to other cats through a deep puncture wound. It is not a danger to humans. She can live a perfectly normal life, she just may not live quite as long as a non FIV cat. Please consider welcoming this girl into your home. Her adoption fee is $100 and she is ready to go home. Story

Charlie had been running at large for quite some time until the magical day when he finally got in the trap. His life took a major turn for the better! No more scrounging for food or being afraid of predators. He will now have a safe, comfortable place to live with all of the food and fresh water he wants. He has been feral for a time and has a badly injured ear that we are still trying to heal. He will let me pet him and pick him up but, like most cats, he only wants to be held on his terms!!! He loves to have his head scratched and his back rubbed. He does get along well with the other cats so far as you can see from the picture of him and Jesse! Please consider giving this wonderful boy a chance at a life of love and happiness. He will require a lot of patience and understanding while he finds his way to trusting you but that will all be worth the years of love that will follow. His adoption fee is $100. Lee is one of five kittens that Momma Liza managed to keep alive against all odds. They were found in an alley starving and covered in fleas. Poor Liza was too weak and sickly to even clean herself or her babies. But all of that is behind them and Lee is ready for his new home. He is also a really good helper. He sits quietly in the corner of each litter box and watches me clean it every morning and every evening! He is a very loving boy who also loves to play. Liberty was wandering the streets looking for a bit of kindness and someone to help her with her soon to be born babies. Luckily, a rescue group took her in and just in the nick of time - she gave birth right away to a beautiful litter of 5 babies - 4 calico and one black and white boy. PAWS was called and we opened up a space for this beautiful mom and her babies. Liberty is a beautiful cat with a shy and "standoffish" personality. She is very timid and will take some time to get used to your home. Once she gets to know you, she is ok with being petted at her request but for the most part, she is good with admiring you from afar. It has taken alot of love and patience for her to finally allow me to pick her up and love on her. But if she gets scared or feels threatened, she will scratch and bite to free herself. If you have the and patience to devote to her, she will make it worth your wait! It has been such a joy to be able to pet her and play with her and give her so much love. She really is a wonderful girl that just needs to go at her pace and not be rushed. She is estimated to have been born in June of 2017. She would not do well in a home with small children. Manning was brought in after a young woman witnessed him being thrown from a car. Miraculously, he was not injured - only scared and confused by the cruelty. He was just a tiny helpless baby who deserved so much better than what humans had shown him up to that point. But thanks to the kindness of this stranger, he was brought to PAWS where he could be loved and cared for until he was old enough to be neutered. It just so happened that Liberty and her litter had just arrived and Manning soon joined them and became the sixth child! He fit right in and has been the older bubby ever since! All of the calico sisters have long since been adopted while Manning waits for his forever family to come. He is a sweet, loving young cat who is funny, smart and so very playful. Madelynn and her siblings were born at PAWS one day after their pregnant mother was surrendered. She is an adorable little DMH tiger stripe girl. She is playful and funny and thinks my leg is a cat tree!!. She is spayed, UTD on shots, and microchipped. Since her mom is FIV positive, she will be tested at 6 months of age to determine if she is positive or negative.
