Story
Meet Bluebelle the Catahoula! Bluebelle has history living with children under 12 years, teenagers, men and women. Bluebelle’s favorite activities in her previous home include running, walks and playing with other dogs. She also enjoys squeaky toys and balls. Bluebelle, like many other dogs, is afraid of fireworks. She finds car rides a little naseauting (literally, sometimes she throws up) so adopters should be mindful of how closely she eats before a car ride and/or work with their veterinarian to help provide Bluebelle with some support to make car rides more comfortable. Bluebelle knows “sit” and “shake”. She has lived with chickens previously and would chase and pin them down if she had access to them. If there are chickens in her next home, they should be securely kept separate from Bluebelle for everyone’s safety. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.

Story
AVAILABLE BY APPOINTMENT! Hi, I am Remi, a 7-year-old, spayed female, Catahoula / Pit Bull mix that currently weights about 73lbs! If you are looking for perfection, than you have come to the right place. I am a loving and affectionate senior gal with impeccable manners. I love to cuddle and I'm a really good walking partner. I'm a calm girl who would love to join you on your daily walks. As an older gal, my playing days are a bit behind me so I would prefer to be the only dog in the home, or with a mellow dog like myself. I can't wait to give you all of my love! For more information, just ask Customer Service about me! Remi ID# A968119   Since I’m not at the adoption center, you can make arrangements to meet me by emailing adoptinquire@phs-spca.org You may also submit your fully completed Adoption Profile Form to adoptinquire@phs-spca.org and a staff member will call you to conduct a phone interview before making an appointment to meet me in person. You must be 18 or older to submit a profile.  Application: https://phs-spca.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/AdoptionProfiles_dog2023_fillin.pdf *The application may not work on mobile devices and iPads. Please call (650) 340-7022 for assistance. I recently went on a field trip with one of my PHS Volunteer friends! Here's how I did: Remi was a joy to handle today during our tour of Robert E. Woolley State Park in Burlingame. We started with a short walk around the building before Remi hopped into the back seat of my car as soon as I opened the door. Upon arrival at the park, the landscaping crew was hard at work with leaf blowers and zero-turn riding mowers zipping around, but Remi showed no signs of discomfort or sensitivity to the noise. We walked a lap around the lagoon, and when we reached the bridge over the inlet, Remi was initially hesitant to cross, possibly due to the wooden planking or the sensation of walking above water. However, she quickly gained confidence and followed me across the bridge, glancing over the edge to observe the water below several times. Along our walk, Remi encountered a variety of other dogs, from a small Shih Tzu to a large Bernese Mountain Dog. She passed each one politely, without pulling, and ignored the vocal dogs, consistently staying by my side. On the fishing pier, she was again uncertain about stepping onto the decking, but after testing the surface with one paw, she confidently proceeded. We spent some time in a grassy area where Remi calmly watched people walk, jog, and enjoy time with their dogs nearby.  On the ride back to Lantos, Remi enjoyed the sights and smells with her nose out the window, perfectly relaxed. Throughout our outing, she was well-behaved and displayed excellent manners.Unless otherwise indicated, adoptable animals are located at our Lantos Center for Compassion at 1450 Rollins Road, Burlingame, CA 94010.  You may call us at 650-340-7022 to schedule an appointment, or just drop by. Drop-In hours for Same Day Adoptions are 11 am – 5 pm, 7 days a week (closed major holidays). We do our best to update our listings regularly, but we can’t guarantee every animal you see is still available. It’s also typical for us to have animals who haven’t had their photos taken yet, so you are welcome to visit our adoption center and have a look around! To check on an animal's adoption status, please call 650-340-7022 during normal business hours to speak with an adoption counselor. Emails will be returned as soon as possible, but please allow up to 48 hours during busy adoption periods like weekends.December 9, 2025, 8:06 pm

Story
Cash is a 2-year old male dog that was surrendered by his loving family due to an unfortunate change in their ability to continue to care for and nurture their beloved dog. Cash is about 75 pounds. He is mellow and enjoys walks and playing with other dogs. He is used to big children; and due to his size and energy; I would not recommend them to a home with small or fragile people. It is unknown how they might be with cats. He gets along fine with our 18 lb dog & other dogs. I would prefer he is adopted by someone with experience with large dogs.
